By the way, 24V is for the starter, pretty much everything else is 12V. "CAB" hydraulic button is not a "release". CAB should be enabled so that the cab suspension is active. If you drive with it disabled,, you can pinch your cab airbags. The cap lock is a function of the "Raise" & "Lower" functions. The cab lock automatically disables when you "Raise" the cab, the inverse is true for "Lower". As far as your cab not raising, that's because you air/hydraulic pump needs a rebuild-easy job for a dude such as yourself. The "Mode" switch locks the transfer case into 50% torque to front wheels and 50% to the rear.... That's all it does. When the trans is not in "Mode", the transfer case is split 30% torque to front wheels and 70% to the rear.... The truck is basically all wheel drive and the xfer case has a "limited slip" clutch in it... You have no lockers, but you can buy a detroit lunchbox locker for it. You can also get "highway gears", aka 3.07:1 gears, which will net you 60MPH at 2150 RPM and a top speed of 70MPH.... quite a bit better than the stock 55MPH @ 2600rpm... Good luck, JH!

The 24v standard for military vehicles dates back to after WWII when they standardized everything (switches, bulbs, etc) to streamline the supply system. The 24v system also enabled tactical radios to be powered by any vehicle.
@greythunder573 жыл бұрын
@@JHDieseland4X4 the suspension setting in the hydraulic controls only compresses the suspension for line haul or air transport. Won't lift it up as your transport guy claimed. The hoses going between the axle and frame are common causes for flat tires.

JH listen up my brother. I am diesel mechanic for the Army for the last 9 years. Since you have 2 of those vehicles do yourself a favor and buy some NATO cables. It allows you to jump start them without connecting to the battery. To the right of the battery box is where the connection is located. Those trucks are 24V systems, do not let them sit or the batteries will drain. Those hawker military batteries are crap, I've replaced hundreds. Once they die it's unlikely you'll be able to bring them back. Good luck!!

All the lighting is 12v then the starting system is 24v. There is a LBCD (Load And Battery Control Device) underneath the spare tire carrier that distributes the 12v/24v power. Also the switch that Gentry showed you for the battery disconnect is the secondary battery disconnect. The main battery disconnect is underneath the small box to the right of the battery box.

NO NEED TO BUY NEW BATTERIES JH! All you need to do is to pull the maintenance covers off the batteries fill up the chambers with distilled water and then leave the covers off and put the battery on a charger and you will start to see bubbles come up, do this until you do not see any more bubbles coming up. Then let the battery is rest for several hours and then repeat the process again. Once you get to the point where you're trying to charge it and there are no bubbles that will come up, you will have completely brand new batteries again. There are videos on KZbin that show how to do this. This is all they do to batteries when you turn in the cores, they refresh them with this method and then resell the batteries as new again. I don’t know if anyone already mentioned this (530 comments and I don’t wanna read through all of them) but if you plan on taking it through water that is deep enough to reach the radiator fan blades make sure you use the ford switch. It manually turns off the fan so you don’t bend or stress anything. Just make sure you turn it back on once your done fording otherwise you end up with an overheated motor. Using the ford switch and having a snorkel so tall the trucks only limitation in water is how long the driver can hold his or her breath. I give it five years before most of the equipment is just more junk on the side of the road. Its not that they lack mechanics or at least enough mechanics. But that they lack any of the infrastructure needed to maintain a modern country or the economy to support one. The Taliban may have been winning prior to intervention but that was becasue the Saudis where spending more on the Taliban then Iran or Russia could spend on their Enemies. War is waste. It is taking mountains of money and thousands of lives a burning them up fore some sort of gain you can call Victory. You hope.

the LMTF/FMTV platform is quite spicy when they are working correctly. the biggest issues with these vehicles are that they slowly die when they sit unused. you can park them in perfect working order and come back 2 months later to have 20 issues after a road test. if you relocate some of the stuff under it to above the frame you'd more than likely be able to put the old deuce to shame keep in mind the 2.5 ton and the 5 ton are different animals in their own right.

So the horn on the turn signal stalk is your air horn, should be mounted above the tire on the passenger side, there should also be a mast power switch by the battery box, most of the non armored LMTVs don’t have AC, and if the do make sure to have the air circulation switch set to pull air from outside, can’t say if it has the hazmat filters still installed.
@j.p.15763 жыл бұрын
One of your gladhands on the front is loose. Rotate the blue one until it is pointing straight like the red one. Until then, your pneumatic system will not pressurize correctly. There’s a mount on the door for the tech manual and its bag, both of which which are missing. That manual is what you need to properly operate and maintain the vehicles. The tractor coming from NC could be a problem, if it does not have frame doublers. There’s a drop zone which it may have commonly driven into, surrounded by a berm. When the rig drove over the berm, the trailer would fix the rear and suspend the front, bending the frame rails. Don’t jump from the cargo bed, it will wreck your back, knees, and feet. It is supposed to have a ladder which fits into two holes at the back. It is stored in one of the latched compartments under the bed. Run it for one hour once a week and you will have significantly fewer problems with the batteries and hydraulic/pneumatic system. The vehicles sat in a transfer pool without crew for too long. The NATO slave system will provide power for most jump starting and camp electrical needs. You have some very nice vehicles there, but they will have to settle into being called “trucks”. Where they are from, trucks only exist at the tops of flagpoles.

It would be super helpful being a 24v system and all. Those batteries should require maintenance. They may just be low on distilled water...should prob check em.

The NATO Inter Vehicle socket is just below the batteries, get your self the cable, they come in different lengths & thus different NSNs.

So nice machines! That is super great! How come the army vehicle does not stay running without the battery? Seems odd to me
