So to anyone reading. There are new updated tools launched and this should work for V1, V2, V3, V4 and V5. I just finished doing my very first digimon Color device V5 and its now fully in English!! Loving it. Hardest thing was getting the correct driver for the USB device. After that was sorted it was plain sailing. You must modify the file names of the replacement english sprites as each divice can have a different number or order.

to change sprites and add a custom roster it would just be replacing the existing png fils in the "sprites" folder you created with new png files, just like the english sprites replacing the japanese sprites, right? and same with backgrounds, or any of the pngs really? what's the max resolution they can be? Thank you so much for this video, it bridged that last gap of understanding to do this to mine when it comes!

I'm trying to export in gitbash so i can replace the sprites and import but whenever i try to export it says "Unhandled Exception: System.Argument Exception: Image size is not correct" and a bunch of other stuff and when i check the file it created it didnt export all of the sprites. how do i fix that?

According to Cyanics repo you now dont need to specify that and you can provide the device version instead

When you say "hold the reset button" do you mean the reset button the board itself or is there are button on the programmer? If it's on the board how do I hold the reset button without the membrane? I'm a noob, so any info helps!

I'm thinking on the board of the vpet itself cause later in the process he mentions holding it again and using something to bridge the contracts. I would take the membrane out of the shell and use a clothes pin or a plastic c-clamp.

Do you need to connect to the digimon first before running the tool? The tool can't be opened on my computer when it's not connected.

Try to connect the digimon first, that's what I did. I think that the tool doesn't have a GUI, it just runs from the command line, so you don't actually see what's happening, only the outputs.

It’s making a weird noise when I connect the tool to the chip and I read the chip. It was scary and I disconnected. Is that normal? 😭

I’ve seen that when I left the device on while flashing, it’s not a great thing as you could be creating an issue with a budge but I can’t say it is bad for sure without really being there.

So what i mean is it could be a hardware issue but if you are fully sure you are connected fine then its likely the system going into a error state causing the speaker to go off.

@@zarcha thanks for replying. Something definitely went wrong. I managed to get a reading but some of the sprites were corrupted and had weird lines going through them. Then I couldn’t get any further reads and then I disconnected it and tried to turn it on and it refused to turn on. I hooked it back up and tried to flash what sprites I had. Managed to get to flash the new bin file, but it still won’t turn on 😢 It’s a bit of a dud now which is sad, but I guess I did it at my own risk and I knew it could go wrong. Still sad though. Btw what did you mean by ‘bridge the connection’? I don’t know a lot about hardware and so I wasn’t sure how you do that?

@ what likely happened is that you wrote back a bad flash which will make it seem dead even when it’s not. I would suggest if you are in one of the 3 main digimon discords (0nl1ne, w0rld, or digi hatchery) send me a message and I can get you back up and running hopefully. For the bridge part I mean if the clip when placed on the eeprom is connecting two pins it shouldn’t be, this can happen at times if you don’t clip on completely right.

⁠@@zarcha I think you’re correct. There’s a KZbinr called digibit online. I copied across his greymon file to the device and it turned on!! Can’t believe I was able to get it working again. I’m so happy! The mod seems to be working as expected but not really what I wanted. My v3 copy is gone. Omg if you have a back up I would be eternally grateful. Thank you so much. I will try to find you on discord. You’re the best!

the programmer setup is extremely straight forward. As for vpet teardown my battery video covers the back part of the shell and then just two screws (one next to the battery and one next to the speaker wires) to remove the pcb.

Looks like sprite tool has had a lot of upgrades since you made the video and containing presents now? Haven't got my usb tool yet but been looking into it, maby it's more simple now? Would love to see a new video uploaded using the latest versions or at least hear your input for the new updated tool and v5, the main thing that confused me was the offset number, what's that for and where did you find it, it's clearly different between V1 and V2.

​@@zarcha just worked it all out on the latest versions of the software for my V5 model which should be the same on the V3 and V4 also. (These 3 models need rename on the new sprites, file names don't match. Written out a modified txt doc to make it easy in future when I get other models to flash. About to do final write now to test.

only the colors, the 97 and alike dont have an exposed rom. Even on newer ones like the DM20/DMX only have a save data flash chip and cant do anything like this.

Can't say for sure but I definitely messed up about 4 times and still had an ok result. Just be sure to copy over any file you start with, so you have an original just in case

Update: for anyone having issues, if possible, try another programmer but keep the same steps. I bought the same one used here just to keep things easy and could not get it to cooperate. When I busted out my TL866 programmer, I was able to accomplish everything including the writing in just a few minutes.

Maybe but not a lot. There are still limitations to the device. Even though the flash is 8mb, we are actually limited to 4mb it seems.

@Zach Lambert hey zach! I found the problem already. I did your code on a V2 instead of V1. Which cause the error! All good now. Man, you weren't kidding on the import part. Had to hold down the reset button for 5min, i could feel my arms falling off! Hardest arm workout in my life!

Make sure you're in the dmc sprites directory. When you open cmd, it should be at the desktop directory, just type "cd DMC Sprites" and hit enter before trying the commands Unless you have the folder somewhere else. In that case, the easiest thing to do is to move it to your desktop and do what I said above Edit: !READ ME! I noticed he didn't mention to type the folder and exe before the commands in the readme Type \CyanicDMCSprites\ before the command without a space after the \
