Not quite, actually. I think, that now it's implied that he did exist, but was not Vergil himself, but rather a clone of him made by Mundus. Kinda like Trish is a clone of Eva. If he was still full canon, that would contradict with everything else, because at the moment the novel came out it was implied that Vergil was a slave for Mundus like, all his life? And after DMC3 we know that it isn't like that. So, Gilver can't be Vergil without breaking the timeline.

Well in the Special Edition of Devil May Cry 4, there was a hooded woman with what it seems to be a red dress who stopped to look at Vergil after he passed by. I'm not 100% sure if that's hinting if she's Nero's mom.
