For those wondering about why the infield fly rule was not imposed on some of these clips: "The rule applies only when there are fewer than two outs, and there is a force play at third base (i.e., when there are runners at first and second base, or the bases are loaded). In these situations, if a fair fly ball is in play, and in the umpire's judgment is catchable by an infielder with ordinary effort, the umpire shall call "infield fly" (or more often, "infield fly, batter is out") and the batter will be out regardless of whether the ball is actually caught." So only having a runner on first isn't enough to bring in the infield fly rule. The only subjective part of this is the "umpire's judgment" part, and I'm assuming that's why the infield fly wasn't called at 5:52. Personally, I think that one should have been an infield fly.

The game that I hate the most... my team won by so much it was like the other team wasn't even there. It was so boring I left at the 5th inning and looked up the game results the next day. Basically it's to prevent the fielding team from intentionally letting a pop up ball drop in the infield, which would give them the chance for an unfair double or even triple play with 0-1 outs, where all runners are forced (must run to give way for the next base runner)

new to baseball so I am wondering why the runner in 0:58 is safe? He wasn't tagged but his opponent touched 2nd base before him
@yessir28734 жыл бұрын
Touching the base is out only if the runner cannot go back to the previous base. EX. First Base, On first base the previous base if home plate and you cannot go on it. In second base, he could go back to first base if needed. EX. That Play (0:58) On double plays where they just touch the base, its still out because there is another runner on first meaning the base is occupied and he can't go back. I hope this helps

@CounterSniper675 жыл бұрын
Cody Smith I understand an out in the field of play. But my upbringing was in football where stepping out of the field of play nullifies all offensive and defensive actions after that point. So basically you’re saying he could theoretically continue running up the bleachers and catch a ball 10, 20, or 30 rows up and it’s considered an out?
@imtheattacker5 жыл бұрын
@@CounterSniper67 I'm not a huge baseball fan. I watch it with my grandfather. Eh. But given the fact that he can basically be out of the field and catch it and it's out, I guess so.
@milkman10265 жыл бұрын
It was not counted as an out because it was deemed out of the field of play. You can see the first base ump point in to the stands signaling a foul ball. I think basically if it's beyond what would be considered a normal reach, it's foul.

Oh course it exists but when you can make a play, such as on a soft line drive before the umpire is able to call an infield fly, it is legal. I now see the play at 5:57 and yeah, the ump should have called that one. Oh again at 8:57. That was really a huge flub by the umpires. Sorry, I should have watched the whole video before commenting.

@teemusid3 жыл бұрын
When Abreu threw his 1st baseman's glove to the pitcher, an umpire could have decided that the pitcher was using an illegal glove. The out would have counted, as the only penalty is to remove the glove from play. I don't think that would ever happen, but Angel Hernandez is still employed, and never underestimate him.
