The most beautiful voice ever and to this day I have yet to hear this aria sung better by anyone else. That final Crescendo then Diminuendo on that note encapsulated in the whole phrase in one breath. It’s the sort of music made in heaven - and insure hope it is made in heaven when we get there. This specific gesture, at the end, is a very Russian thing, as he takes the vowel, a closed e, opens it for the crescendo, and closes it again for the decrescendo. No one did, will, or can do it better and trust me, we all try! :)

My first encounter with Dima was when I was a teenager. I purchased an opera greatest hits cassette, and this was on it. I was electrified and speechless listening to it for the first time. It was so unbelievably beautiful. This is really his aria, it's almost as if it was composed for his voice. What an artist.
