The key to Eternal Life in this world is simple. NO WORSHIP, NO SLAVES. The guy who figured out what the Bible was saying about all the dead are inside of the Sun and how to avoid death sold me his book with the info for 25 bucks. He is an former US Marine who speaks perfect English.

A lot right now. THE CREEPIEST CONSPIRACY OF 2018 kzbin.info/www/bejne/goC7gWOGg9GAmac I think it's strange it is a conspiracy. Studying how to converting the consciousness is like understanding the matrix. How does the question change to, are in the matrix already?

The point of existence is... itself. This is where all the why-questions come to an end. Because we, sentient beings, are able to: enjoy. And this is all about. I'm enthusiast about immortality and transhumanism, but you're damn right I'd spend centuries (or no matter how long) in a semi-biological body in pursue of a way to move back to an organic body; This time, an immortal one. I'd upload my memories to a safe machine (where my DNA would already be stored) once in six months just in case...

I think the best way to reach immortality is by preventing the aging process by focusing on nanotechnology (nanobots) instead of repairing by stem cells, and preserving by electronic chip and cyborging. Think about it. If you replace brain for example (and you will definately have to) its not guaranteed that it will have the soul of the same person, and all the memory probably will be gone. Also, what about accidents, killing and diseases? Again, the answer- nanotechnology. thumbs up

I have a way around the whole 'transferral' thing. All you need to do is slowly replace parts of your brain with artificial parts. You will become it and adapt to the artificial brain. Then there is no risk of losing your consciousness.

Science can do anything. If the extinction of some is needed to achieve a greater goal like immortality, let it be. And not everybody needs to live forever, I believe that it would be a difficult thing to achieve and only those who deserve immortality should have it, like geniuses and productive people.

as technology will forever increase, processes that will perpetuate our lifespan will start expensive, and become cheaper as we move closer to reaching the secret of immortality. Once it is found, our basic thoughts on currency and work will change because the limited time that we consider to get paid for is not so limited anymore. Other technologies will increase exponentially as well, and soon those billionaires will want immortal commoners to forever buy their products. All will balance.

That depends. If you replace the brain gradually, cell by cell, then you would presumably maintain the continuity of conciousness. But copying ones brain and replicating it in a computer won't, it will just result in a copy.

I have beliefs, I won't deny that but this isn't about beliefs. This is about being human. Yes we invent machines that replace broken limbs and even keep some of us alive, but you are still more human then machine. Where do we draw the line and stop being human? Why do we want to be immortal but no longer ourselves. No longer the person we were born. I would never want to be immortal if it meant I had to wake up every morning and realize I am not myself anymore but a machine made to be me.

What this guy is trying to achieve is not really necessary. We already ARE immortal. Birth and death are mere transitions into and out of this reality frame. It's true we can't currently stay in this part of reality forever. But do you really want to? I believe there is a reason for these transitions to occur and nature does know very well why it's happening. That being said I do believe that some day there might be some kind of consciousness technology allowing such transitions to be executed.

Making the body immortal is another possible way, but that that´s an OFFTOPIC, cause we were discussing the supposed perfection of human body. Our body is full of imperfections, that's a fact. Did you read talk.origins FAQ for a start?

There is more than enough evidence to suggest that we are immortal as not the physical world is the fundamental part of existence but consciousness is. Consciousness IS immortal. Our live here is just one episode out of many. Today's science has maneuvered itself into the "physical" corner but there are so many anomalies in today's theories that strongly indicate that there is much more to this picture than most scientists are able to grasp. It's wise to do some research and get enlightend!

The is no need to kill the original. It can be done partially. Imagine you have 1 neuron replaced by an electronic equivalent, it will still be you, isn't it? So imagine such kind of process, very gradually replacing your physical brain with an electronic one, no matter how slow it is, there would be no need get rid of the original. I hope to have explained well the example.

@MrCropper I don't see how he's necessarily wrong, though. It's easier to develop and sell a combustion vehicle than the Chevrolet Volt, which is a fine piece of progressive technology. Unfortunately, it has some short comings, and its far easier for people to jump on its current shortcomings than laud it as a blueprint for future technologies. It's not a perfect analogy, but I think it's true. Same idea with alternate energy technologies.

Transfer conscience? It sounds very sketchy, just like the teleportation theory. That is, once you are teleported somewhere, your atoms are ripped apart, and put back together in a different location... But doesn't that mean you died? The person on the other end of the teleportation device looks like you, has your memories, and everything else... But is it actually you? It's great that a group of scientists are finally trying to prolong life to this extent, but I don't like the idea.

"why shldnt 1 billionaire be responsible for an entire races immortality" Because no other man with power had the innitiative? What prevent politicians and other billionaires to enter the project, contribute and share decision-making power? If decision making is not shared, what would prevent them to start their own project? Most men with power, invest a lot in sports and entertainment, it's not like they don't have the funds available. Why don't they invest so eagerly in science?

Given immortality and its very definition of "eternal"... if the universe is not endless, so there's this problem for a far future: what now when we come to a time when all available planets and sattelites and artificial stations in the entire universe were all inhabited? This would then start being a concern, wouldn't it? It is not even unproven that you and I could ourselves face this question someday. =)

The human body is perfect but yes i do agree that so far it is only achievable by the elite. however this is very easy to get around, if we go as a democracy , we could perhaps create a bill that requires citizens to pay a % immortality tax. @TheRadicalStartover Earth's population is NOT growing exponential anymore. Its growth rate is declining since 1960s. We are on the late stage of S-curve. This dynamics doesn't yet count radical life extension, but in reality, the longer people live, the fewer children they have and the later their children are born. So the best means to level out Earth's population might be (what a paradox!)... total immortality.

From my point of view, humanity has made many mistakes on earth with the bodies we where given, we hardly respect our own organic bodies that work tirelessly to support us though our endeavors and we do not even fully understand that machine or treat it with love. We have not been successful at making machines that are free from viruses. DO you think they can replicate that which has taken YEARS to plan and produce the human experiment? Not to mention many other issues about this idea.
