MY favourite interpretation of this masterpiece from Vivaldi. Sinkovsky puts so much mystery and suspense and dread in his performance, it is really doing the eerie beauty of it full justice. Bravo.

it is incredible that a man can have a voice like this...it's angelic... he is able to vary his voice in a very fine and subtle way... there is the quality of the voice and its capabilities, but also the quality of what the person's soul transmits beyond it... I also found that the orchestra around him was very subtle either...

I discovered this piece with Andreas Scholl, I loooved it, then listened to it ad nauseam, then I started looking for other interpretations, and I absolutely love his way, his timber and cristalline voice, I like it actually much better than Scholl.

I'm not sure why, but I always prefer the countertenor version of this. It's sung a lot by female artists, but this song in particular is just so much more haunting when sung by a countertenor.

Cause it's angelic. Asexual -placed on higher level. Countertnors are closer to that level than female singers who have generally a kind of sexual radiance.

I agree for Sandrine Piau... what I like in her voice is this purity without artifice... her voice has a great ability to take us over the earth... I listened to her while making a cruise in Chilean Patagonia... it was perfect with the vastness of the landscape and the lights on the water...

Good lord this is so good. I LOVE that they added a percussive lower octave bass note at the beginning of each bar. It adds to the very traurig, plodding, dramatic tension of the piece. And the wonderful, colorful singing is so delightfully different. Pure straight tone where you want it, and a bit of meatiness in the more dramatic parts.

Andreas Scholl is indeed the best educated countertenor with the most beautiful voice. Nobody can surpass him .

Scholl gives a more angelic and protestant sounding rendition. This one from Sinkovsky sounds a lot more haunted. Some people prefer one version, others the other.
