It's funny that you mention the HD560s and Zeus in the same breath on this subject. I bought both as a result of your reviews and others in the headphone space and both are absolutely phenomenal. That said, when I bought the Zeus, the 560s took the backburner for awhile. I felt a bit bad having bought both in the same year but just considered it the price of learning about good things as better are just around the corner. (Talking subjectively ofc, since I know the qualities of the headphones are different.) At the same time, some songs that I listened to that I thought were bangers just didn't seem so anymore listening to them months later--after switching to the Zeus being my daily driver. I wasn't looking for reasons so I never thought about the headphone being at the center of it. And so imagine my surprise when I put the 560s back on because I wanted to wear something lighter at the time and my ears got blown clean off for the 2nd time with the precision detail that the 560s is praised for. Those songs I referenced before definitely were bangers to me, but that was because of the high production mixing and composition that the 560s was able to bring to the surface. I was able to rediscover my love for those songs and the 560s, and I know the same will happen to the Zeus if I daily drive the 560s for a month or two. And so it's with that that I'd add credence to the idea that 2 or 3 great pairs of headphones is the way to go, particularly if you're talking about ones that sound very differently, such as how the 560s is praised for its neutral, near-reference surgical detail and the Zeus is toted as a fun concert hall on your head (paraphrased from DMS).

This is the first time in my life I actually subscribed to the channel just from the first video. It'll be hard to write these thoughts down in English, since my native is Russian, but I'll try. Never have I ever met someone who is so based in the topic of discussion, and yet simplifies all the information this nicely. Nothing missed, no distortion of information, - just the pure concept and it's mechanics. I'm not sure how YT got to know that I needed this video. The thing is, that I recently got a DAC (SB AE-5) and got pretty disappointed. It's not that it's bad, it's just when I connect my Alpha S or Moondrop Arias to the DAC and then to my phone, the difference is so minimal. And between my AlphaSs, Arias, TWS5s and other headphones (yeah, I don't have nothing too expensive, but I still believe I can enjoy the clear sound even withing the range of 70-150$). And the thing is, that the difference is indeed minimal. I've had some clearly terrible headphones of course, but when you're getting something decent above the price mark of 60-70$, I feel like it's all +- the same, and I feel kinda scammed, not gonna lie. Because all the audiotech reviewers were like "OH YOU WANNA RELISTEN TO ALL YOUR ALBUMS AGAIN, "OH THE MUSIC IN THIS IS SO GOOD YOU WANNA DANCE TO IT". Literally. I'm quoting. The other guy was "FIRST I WAS LISTENING. THEN I WAS SCREAMING HOW GOOD IT WAS. THEN I REPEATED." Like, ffs, what the hell are you all talking about? Yeah, there is a difference, but how come EVERYBODY can hear it, and I don't? And here I find this video where you PERFECTLY summarized and showed what my problem was. I knew myself that the "audial revolution" I'm chasing is too idealistic to exist, but I never got to the idea that it's an addiction, and has to be treated like one: with ascetism. Thanks, man. You have no clue how much you helped me. Thanks for the amazing content. Keep it up.

Great point! If you have the space, a suggestion I would pass along is to have a few different setups around the house. In my house I have a 5.1 setup in the living room, 2.1 channel audio in my basement game room, 2 channel audio in my gym area, 2 channel audio in my workshop, then a headphone setup in my office. After writing this I realize this makes it sound like I live in a mansion, but I definitely do not. My house is 1400 square feet with an unfinished basement and nothing that I own would be considered high end. It's all just nice equipment I've collected over the many years I've been in the hobby. Having different areas of the house to experience music in different ways keeps it fun. It's amazing how well older equipment holds up if you spread out your listening. Very fun to revisit that stuff. I'll also say though that if you do this and are still disappointed with a particular piece of gear, sell it or trade it for something worth while. No use in hoarding things that don't make you happy.

This. So much this! I honestly don't know how some people can only live with 1 headphone even if it's the best flagship. My current collection is ~40 pairs and I cycle through most of them regularly-ish depending on my mood, the day, the content, and my source. Granted, I take this to an extreme. Headphones are smaller than speakers but 40+ pair still take up a lot of space so I wouldn't recommend it to most people for practical reasons. However, cycling through just a few (3-5) headphones is really nice. You get way more out of the listening experience. Also, finding good pairings, albums that sound better on certain headphones, is really fun and can really boost that experience. My modded TH-X00 Purple Heart is downright magical with Heilung's Futha album. This album with that headphone sounds better than my Elex, HE6SE V2, HP-3, (despite being technically inferior to these) or anything else in my collection. Searching for these magical pairings is so much fun, it's like an archeology dig and is a cool way to keep the music that I'm familiar with exciting.

I'm using two headphones as my daily drivers, one is the upgraded and the other is the downgrade, it kept reminding me how i love my new upgrade if i listen to them everytime

I have actually been daily driving a pair of ksn10 pros for almost two weeks now, running them both on balanced and with KZ's pro bt adapter, and I am having the time of my life. Now every time I pick up my HD660S they feel as good as the first time I tried them on rofl

This is exactly why I have a phono cartridge collection, both MM and MC. I put on a different cartridge every once in a while to keep it interesting.

Spot on. I wish I could just buy a TOTL headphone, however I doubt that will ever be the case. Always looking for that bit more or better.

I sold all my high end headphones. All stax, audeze focal clear etc. Just to have the sennheiser hd 660s and the sennheiser hd 560s. And it is worth it.
@18yearsoldnot3 жыл бұрын
Are you not annoyed by the lack of bass?
@RC-qc2nz3 жыл бұрын
@@18yearsoldnot not really. The hd 560s has better bass extension than the 660s. A little deeper. Had audeze headphones before which have better bass of course but the frequency response in general were not that good in comparison.
@18yearsoldnot3 жыл бұрын
@@RC-qc2nzI’m definitely keeping my hd660s for the reasons you mentioned but I’m not overly impressed by their oomph for movies, classical music and Netflix. They definitely need an eq/ bass shelf and that is what I did and the results were good - particularly using sbx bass boost in my dsp software. After I got the hd660s, I got the x2hr and they absolutely sucked, then I got the hd599 as a portable sort of alternative to the hd660s just to see the difference and noticed a little bit more bass, but less detail with a nasty treble spike. Then I got the momentum 3 which aren’t really audiophile grade but the bass extension is literally perfect (and not exaggerated which the forums claim). Now I splurged and the lcd-x and m1060c are in the mail. I’m treble sensitive with tinnitus so can’t listen to overly revealing headphones all day so hoping the lcd-x don’t get exchanged for an lcd-2.

Great video, I have done this for over a year to keep my headphones from getting boring with just a 58x and DCA OpenX's. Might get a good closed back into the mix or iem.

I have this in a very toned down way. I just got some Meze 99 Classics, and I'm loving them, but since they're the only wired headphones I have, they run my desk exclusively. I also have Sony WH1000XM4s I use when I'm out and about, and some Jabra Elite 75ts that I use for workouts and other general listening. This allows me a fairly large variety of options, but really lets me appreciate the magic in my Classics when I sit down at my desk and enjoy some music.

This must be one of your very very best video's, pure therapy... so next week we will not see a video of...But serious this stuff needs tp be said ones or twice a year, so my collection lol :-) Sennheiser HD 5XX jubilee, a Momentum 1 and a pair of IE800. Sony MDR1AM2 Xperia 1 mk2 and some headphones in the store room..

I would like to also say for all the mixing and master engineers it’s not really about how crazy the headphones are it’s just about how flat and transparent they are. Also have your ears dialed in to ear frequency bands and levels is important for a good mix on songs that you’re working on. I got the Akg 702 headphones and Yamaha hs5 monitors they work well for my setup.

I deal with a similar phenomenon when I produce music as a hobby. I’ll change something in a mix and then spend 60 minutes trying to figure out if I like the change because it’s better or different.

Even with only 2 headphones, I can appreciate this. I have KZ zsn Pro X iem. They are bassy and sparkly and are awesome to throw in my pocket. And I have my audio technica athm40x overears. Nice flat sound that sounds incredible and comfy for my ears. When I come home from work listening to my iems, I can appreciate my over ears. Then once I'm done with my overears I enjoy the sound my iems.

I'm a Mid-fi family guy. I happily cycle between 1 open dynamic, 1 open and 1 closed planar, 1 dynamic iem and 1 planar iem. I did own the 'destination listen' lcd2 but far too heavy. I'll stick to that roster as it works for my taste and mood 🎶🎶👂

As an audio engineer and music lover, I don't have the problem of feeling a need to upgrade or to change things out in both of my systems. I have it pretty much exactly how I want in terms of fidelity, frequency response, phase coherence, imaging, and soundstage. In terms of headphones, for critical listening I stick to my trusty Little Dot Mk 2 with Voshkod Rocket Tubes and my Sennheiser HD300 Pros. For my needs, I want a system that I can rely upon and am extremely familiar with.
