Joe since you already carry tarps and para cord or small rope to hang the tarp go and buy yourself a double wide nylon camping hammock with tree straps.. you will sleep better than ever or any bed you've slept in.. I've got a fused lower back and have been sleeping in one in my basement for 3 years now.. it's like heaven and they take up very little room. I've got a camping one that has a zip on bug net across the top of the whole hammock

Great video. Sometimes it's great to revisit past camps sites. After months and years on the road they kind of start to fade out or start to run together. The day I left Camp 5, I rode thru almost 6 hours of heavy rain. It whooped me bad. I'll send you a couple of pics from Devil's Tower since you didn't get as close. Thank goodness for Sr. Life Time NP passes.

I grew up and spent the last 20 years trucking all over the place and now that I've walked away from it the being alone is the one thing that I miss.. Dick Proenecke has a great story and you can still visit his cabin.. my goal was to enjoy my 20s and work my butt off until about 30 to 35 and then go live out on s piece of property in a cabin or home that I built however I didn't get to do it because I met a wonderful woman and immediately had 2 kids but the dream hasn't died just rescheduled until I get these youngsters raised.. youngest will be 18 in 5 years and my son sounds like he's interested in helping me and staying until he finds his calling

Check out Stan Zurays story about moving to the woods of Alaska on KZbin. Really good video Joe. I think you would have gotten your $20 worth by going into Devils Tower. It’s really funky with these pentagon iron, granite columns. Natives call it Bear Butte. Go while you can still hike around it. Sometimes there are climbers on it. Good advice about staying busy, no matter where you are or what stage of life. A man needs a code and purpose to live by. All the best and ride safe Joe.

I was looking up some stuff about Alaska a year ago and rain into the story about Dick Proenneke . Was kind of intrigued about it. There are a few videos on youtube of a reporter that went up there and he talked to him. Was crazy on the videos how he was able to interact with the birds that lived around there like he did.

Nothing too serious, but I've seen lots of bears, been stalked breifly by what I suspect was a jaguar in Guatelamala... but the thing that freaks me out the most is out of control dogs, especially once the guard instinct kicks in, they can be pretty vicious.

How are you finding your Honda NC? Meeting your needs such as fuel economy, reliability and overall suitability for the type of riding you do?
@dirtymotorcyclevagabond2 жыл бұрын
It's doing great, man! Of course, there's no such thing as a perfect bike, I'm enjoying the versatility. Will need a skid plate soon, as I've already had a couple sketchy encounters with rocks. Miss the power of the ST1300, and the dual disc brakes, but couldn't be more pleased with the NC.

A lot lol. I’ve come pretty close to black bears about 7-8 times, mostly in my home state of VA. Everytime, I’ve just backed away slowly and avoided confrontation. The worst thing is when you get around wild dogs, they’re a lot more confrontational. In those cases you have to stand your ground and act loud and crazy. The jaguar that came around my camp in Guatemala… I got no answer for lol. Seems predatory cats can do whatever they like lol. Might be best to pray in that situation. Luckily I had pepper spray and a machete

That steak would have been better sitting on one of those rocks. Using the packaging is just silly when you have all of those rocks there. Not just because of the sanitation issue, but also putting hot meat on that shitty styrofoam. That's got to be toxic as hell.
@dirtymotorcyclevagabond2 жыл бұрын
Couple issues with that. Though I considered it, a) it would’ve leaked juice all over the place in bear country and b) everything out there is covered in a fine dust of dried cow/ buffalo crap.
@Jason-cm6uh2 жыл бұрын
@@dirtymotorcyclevagabond Your cooking utencil would attract bears more. Cooking puts the smell up in the air and carries it wherever the wind blows. If you clean with water you brought, then the smell is on the ground. A river cleaning is best. If you have water, clean the rock. Be safe hombre!
