As a fellow DM seeing the characters/players finally face consequences for their selfish and greedy decisions is really cathartic. Mad props to Monty for turning the players' repeated fuck ups into such an emotional moment. I would certainly not have faulted her for just letting the party wipe after ignoring literally every hint and warning thrown at them. I mean, they decided to shove the clearly unstable cleric with a demon inside her head into a room so they could go shopping, for fuck's sake. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
@doctorsnakeeater19977 жыл бұрын
Jesus Christ, so much has gone on in this. So much exposition and reveals, but none of it felt like it was rushed to me. It was fantastic, and amazingly emotional, and everyone was playing to their character's emotions perfectly in the Lys scene. I love that Monty as Lys referred to the masks as 'Veils' especially. Veils are typically used to mask or cover faces, or objects of significance or importance, like holy artifacts or women's faces at weddings, to be removed when the time is right. The reveals of our protagonists' secret pasts were amazing as well, beautiful and interesting. Panic's real name (And of course it had to be one that even sounds sexy), Greckles' origins and his parents, and then Borky's past piano lessons. Borky especially was surprising. I wonder if it was his mother that taught him how to play, and his father, obviously a true blooded orc of the angry and violent kind, didn't approve of such 'soft' behavior. Maybe we'll be seeing Borky ask Panic for lessons, and it can be something the two can bond over. Music. With how dramatic and emotional these scenes were, I honestly pity Zito right now. He's going to be waking up in a cold sweat at night now until next Wednesday, thinking about what Lys is going to show Task, even though its obvious what he's gonna show, its 'how' he'll show it that is going to be important I think. Fuck I wasn't expecting to write such a long comment. I loved every second of this.

Yeah i think Lys is the anti-Stilhavity. Stilhavity gives easily what one folk desires giving him or her the choice to accept or not, but to only corrupt this gift and makes this one a shadow of him/herself. Lys instead takes something dear to someone giving him or her the choice to accept or not, but only to give them him/her much more to be better then he/she was.

@Confusing Zark his back story states that he is a coward that runs away from everything. And then he starts to blame others for his actions. He runs away and says that nobody loves him. He runs away from stillhavity and blamed solly for not rejecting stillhavity. Even though if he was solly, he would also probably follow stillhavity's actions. (because he's a demigod and he don't want to oppose him in fear of death). So he blames solly for betraying him, but he is a hypocrite for fearing a god so much. He puts death on such a high regard that it clouded his thinking. Because if he actually is willing to sacrifice himself for solly, stillhavity can't kill him, because solly would reject stillhavity's offer. This would've made him hesitate until the rest of the unexpectables arrive.

Guys, this was absolutely amazing. Monty, I didn't think a DM could ever hit me in the feels so hard I literally cried, but I was wrong. Snaek, your performance made me want to hug and punch Panic simultaneously. Goombah, I'm still not sure how to feel about Greckles, but I love this conflict. Taka, I could feel how hard you were trying to keep the lulz and the salt from drowning out the feels, and I'd say you did a great job. Zito, we didn't get to hear Tasks trial, but I love everything you've done with/as Task, and I can't imagine this will be any different. In summary, thank you for the laughter and the tears guys, you're all amazing. I can't believe how real these characters feel (including many of the NPCs Monty) and how complex they feel.
@chaseb53767 жыл бұрын
First off i want to say, Taka thank you for starting this. This is one of my favorite on going series going at the moment (for any medium, TV, Internet, Etc.) Its fun, its creative, its immersive and most importantly it has so much heart put behind it. I know tech issues bother you, but trust me. The audience doesn't miss all the work put behind it and i GUARANTEE you we will still follow it. Because that's how good it is. The reason i say this (Other than to just show appreciation for something i genuinely have fallen in love with) is i do have one criticism of the show itself. Or more of a request i guess. My request to Zito for his reveal. Let the character crack for god sake. I love Task and i understand his motivations. But for christ sake you cant answer every problem through screaming and threatening. Hell that approach is what mostly got you to the 2nd worst ending. I'm scared he'll just get frustrated and angry at the revelations of his past and not learn a godamn thing. He has a serious Napoleon complex of hating people that think they're bigger than him. But beyond that his character has little or nothing to offer when brought with adversity. Even when the DM is STRAIGHT UP TELLING YOU "Dude, chill the fuck out" through a deus ex machina style god. You still respond with "idc im angry task blah blah" Its just grating as all hell.
@chaseb53767 жыл бұрын
However that is really my only complaint. Monty is one of the best DMs ive ever seen. Great storyteller and actor. Doesnt punish the players unless its their fault to begin with. Everyone is playing their characters with a good balance of humor and drama. But Task (whom started out as my favorite character believe it or not) has just gone to yelling and threatening his problems instead of thinking about them. It can get frustrating.
@Codeninja6766 жыл бұрын
It is very clear that Zito is more used to being a DM than a Player since he plays his character like a DM would play an NPC with a tragic backstory and Anger Issues which is fine when you are DMing not fine when you are a PC since with PC if you try and play like that with no cares about the rest of the campaign you are backseat DMing by forcing your DM to play to your story beat ignoring everyone else's, and especially in this case were Monty is very non confrontational with her players, so Zito pushes her around with how he plays his character since she hasn't put a hard stop to his bullshiterry. Of course i'm just speaking from what i have seen so far i'm hoping future episodes have Zito calm the fuck down for a minute and notice that how he is playing his character is undermining the whole point of a DnD campaign if he wanted to roleplay his character and write a story around him he could have done it in his own time without taking over Monty's story. Honestly this story and watching the Oneders on TFS plays has made me realize that Zito is a horrible player but a great DM

Use Zito as an object lesson in what not to do. He's not a very good DM. His presentation is full of malapropisms, for someone who loves the golden age of piracy, he doesn't really get how ship combat, naval ranks, and other things works on a basic level. For a DM he doesn't keep good notes on his own house rulings and he's not very inconsistent. Also on a minor note. He calls for too many rolls and counter rolls way too much. Remember DMs have to give out info for rolls, even on stuff they didn't want. Measure the rolls you call carefully. Also, there are few counter rolls in D&D. He sets up too many. While a DM is the arbiter of the rules, a good DM is like a good umpire: He calls things consistently even if they're wrong. Zito does not.

Trying to catch up with the Unexpectables, and I’m simply blown away by the level of complexity of Monty’s story, the guys creativity, and of course Taka is one of the amazing actors of TFS, so yeah his Borky action was fantastic. p.s. it must be tough doing an activity like this continuously amidst schedules, tech issues and challenges between...you know. I really need a job to give these guys the proper compensation for the awesomeness that they produce, and admist the ish as well!

Since they are recording each person individually for the podcast I hope they will keep the moment Panic has that laugh at around 59:54 and make some short animation of that moment. Holy shit that was one good laugh.

Austin Hann #001 I had got Legend of Dragoon as well as Lunar Silver Story vibes from that whole deal with L.Y.S. Speaking of Dark Souls I just realized that I'm still in the middle of farming souls from that Giant Lord.

So Panic, or Vergil, kept during down advances because he felt like he could never give something that he never got from his family. Broky acts kind of childish because he hates his father's part of himself, and Greckles was never abandoned but is the survivor of a Hobogoblin raid on a Kenku town and might be part Phoenix? Also WHY DO YOU GUYS KEEP MAKING ME CRY!?

Panic and Borky's backstories hit just a little too close to home...I love it!

So with this the second worst ending, I wonder how many were possible? Maybe that's excluding endings where one or more dies, as that seemed possible. Was bringing Tarrus a bad end? Greckles not rushing to save Sully last week obviously made Monty a bit upset. Borc being brought with them seemed like an option for many reasons. Borc was the one who in the past was asking about "The Attic" in the sewers when they overheard him. So when they started hearing things about the Attic they should have talked to him particularly once they had means to find it. Also he's in the art so it's actually most likely Monty imagined he'd lead them there and just put him in the art. Instead she said he was there "for scale" which seemed like a lie. They perhaps should have invited other side characters at least. I'm not sure of anyone in particular as their combat usefulness. Maybe leave Tai behind with Tarrus in particular. It'd be a big ask of Willow, but she's been a peripheral party member for a while. When I think about it, leaving people behind also hasn't been good. Also Monty didn't force them to rest or say it was getting late. So they likely had time to get some allies at least. Even some of the guards may have joined them particularly after Greckles became friends with them. I actually think Steve was another path to a god. In the last arc Steve confirmed that her god the god of Clockwork had talked to her. This god had previously saved the city from giants in the past or something. So Steve may have been able to "phone a god" or at least provide more help. Sully having a soul or something may have allowed for more options. Even the other Oron clergy may have been able to help if some other choices were made. If they hadn't been forced out they actually may have been close enough to offer aid. So if the group had even just purely ran, then they could have had more clergy. I don't know how many paths there were or how far they branch. Just Borc, Steve, and Sully seem like the most major mistakes to me. Honestly the way Monty seems to write isn't the greatest for these players. They seem to seek action at the climax rather than wonder if there's some place to have things improved.

Redflametrow 200% agree. i'm hoping the boys will see this arc as a lesson to try working with monty's clues & hints instead of blatantly ignoring them bc they want upgraded gear.

Haley Rae Thanks. Honestly some points I wish could tell them to do things, but they likely don't even listen to chat while live. Even between streams I'd have some advice, but I thought they'd figure out things. I'm a pretty naturally suspicious or loophole person where I try to examine things. With Monty big hint that actions have unforeseen consequences with the one guard who was Task's friend, you think they would have learned there. There's no right way to play necessarily, but Monty certainly was steering them. Even the way she said Dog Zone was her favorite scenario showed that there were numerous things that could have happened. The characters just seem to double down when they make mistakes. You'd think at least one of them would be learning. Greckles was smart enough to get the guards at the one point, but it's not his natural inclination to get Bork or other guards when it comes to the fate of the whole city.

I think greckles being a coward ties in perfectly with his backstory. I kinda wish gaijin pulled more into it. I kinda head cannoned a little when Lys ask greckles if he understood what she meant. Wanted greckles to understand that his cowardice actions has caused pain to solly. (listening to the end, gaijin finally acknowledged his

Freaking, they mention Kingdom Hearts and I playing kh1 on my ps2 while listening to this. Then Monty says 'In this place' and I immediately just say to myself 'to find is to lose and to lose is to find' I see what you did there, Monty, you changed the words up but the meaning was the same. I approve though.
