If still abused, you could just start to apply the "Coming back from the dead is an ordeal. The target takes a -4 penally to all attack rolls, saving throws, and ability checks. Every time the targel finishes a long rest, the penalty is reduced by 1 until it disappears." part found on raise dead and ressurection spells. Revivify doesn't include it because it suppose the soul hasn't really left the corpse yet, which also why it need to be used within a minute of the death... but since the hexblade ability litterally draws the soul out of the corpse and turns it into a specter within a second... then coming back to life 45 seconds later... yeah, sounds like quite an ordeal indeed ^^ At worst, there's also the "If it's soul is free and willing, the target returns to life" restriction also found on raise dead/ressurecion spells. And quite obviously, as long as the specter remains, the soul is not free to return. Then there's the second sentence of specter's lore that mention "Specters no longer possess connections to who or what they were.", which pretty much sow doubts on the 'willing' part as well.

They are not doing anything, but you get the sudden urge to get away from this ‚thing‘ whatever it is as fast as possible. This is why the house rule for a chance of people not coming back is important. Also, it makes dying way more impactful since you no longer have that safety net.

Due to the way a specters death works, it can only die by the soul being destroyed. Thus any rivivify of a character turned specter will be a soulless husk.

Gonna use this duo as the villains in a detective game- everyone thinks its one Rogue but it's just Jeff and his warlock buddy

Shenanigans like this is why I implimented a homebrew Sanity stat. In any event where you would experience extreme amounts of trauma (physical or mental) the DM can force you to make a Sanity saving throw. On a failed save you can incur varying levels of madness. So yeah, you can use murder spirit tricks like this, but you might not make it out without a messed up mind.

Yeah that's when you implement the "each time you come back, you lose a part of yourself, memories start to fade" aka consequences for dieing too often.

This is why Zelot Barbarians make the best tanks. "Oh no, they tanked to much damage and now they're dead.... you bustards!" ..... and they're back.

Well at least you got a great quest premise out of it. A warlock and a barbarian that have been battling for decades, and the party must end the battle.
