Bring back à la cart to the D&D beyond marketplace. It was really nice seeing all the usable content itemized not just the amount of each thing (new classes, species items, and spells) available in that book separate from the compendium. It really helped deciding if I wanted to buy the book or not as a player. Where a DM would be interested in the monsters available in that book. Got my basic set of D&D for Christmas 1980. This was the set with the famous "Keep on the Borderlands" adventure! It's hard to imagine that so much time has gone by and that so many versions have been printed. Looking forward to the new rules. Hoping my wish list gets some answers... better range of weapons... like an actual 1-handed sword (the old broadsword)... that represents the most common sword created in the middle ages... like a Viking sword, or a Crusaders / Knights sword. (NOT a short sword) There have been ongoing arguments of "what is a bastard sword vs what is a long sword" IS a longsword in D&D actually the Bastard Sword from history? I hope there is a return of Master Craft gear. I hope there is a return of more materials and metals for weapons and armor. What are the rules for Siege engines? Trebuchet's, catapults, scorpions, ballista... Can you substitute "Siege Engines" for "Land Vehicle" if you have a military background? Do you use Dex for attacking with a trebuchet? Or do you use wisdom or Intelligence? A massive engine doesn't really rely on agility... Are you disadvantage if you aren't skilled with siege engines? I'm glad there are rules for buildings and construction cost. In many low-magic settings... you don't have a "magic item super center" to spend your piles of gold. So players end up wanting to buy property, or a wizard tower, or a private keep. I've had to wing it or looked to 3rd party sources to come up with costs to buy/build a roadside inn... tower, or a small keep... I can't wait to dive into the bastions rules!

I REALLY wish they would add a chapter into the DMG or a separate book down the road that is specifically for props to use during gameplay. I feel there is a massive enabler there they are missing out on to help DM's use props, both made with simple household or dollar store items or more elaborate 3D printable items, which not only feeds in-person experiences, but also could be a good market for WotC such as STL files you could purchase on DnD Beyond. When you talk about enhancing an experience, simple things like parchment paper or a D&D elven or dwarven fonts, the infamous reusable glass/plastic tubes with D4's in them for potions or printable trap/puzzle boxes that go with a specific adventure, really makes the game immersive and fun. In a world with everything digital, keeping a connection to tangible items brings things back to the table.

@@switchimpulse I can agree with that. To build on that, those small businesses would do a lot better with Wizards offering a partner portal to promote them better. That would be better suited for the D&D portals also look for places such as x-products. I don't think the dude with a sword and shield with some armor and maybe a bow should be at equal power as a wizard who can literally bend reality. I think the role play gos out the window because at what point are you now a spell caster in order to match that level?

I'm excited for this! I'm also interested to see how the general TTRPG community will refer to it colloquially. It seems like a pretty straightforward 5.5E and that feels simplest to me. Remember that not all of the 2024 Core Rulebooks are coming out in 2024 so I see that phrasing becoming difficult over time.
@Pike-ip2xo5 ай бұрын
Even though I’m not super super stoked about 5.5 because it’s pretty much just a revamp of fifth edition with nothing super significant that we’ve seen so far, here’s to hoping that I am greatly mistaken, and they completely blow my mind with the new stuff today. I still love dungeons and dragons. It was the first system I ever played back in the Mid90s when I was a teenager and I will always have a special place for dungeons and dragons on my role-play shelf. However, the system is definitely getting really really boring at this point lol for me at least. But I hope that everyone that still enjoys it gets to enjoy it and has many many great adventures for the years to come, here’s another 50 years of dungeons and dragons.

I disagree. The fighter will be so different and "fresh" that players will not want to play the old version. Also, i suspect many of the species (previously "races") will be different as well and the players will want to play these. This is a different version of 5th.

Strength for perception might be related to something like “Scent” where you try to take a deep breath to smell what might be around you. Also constitution option in the same vein. For dexterity perception I would imagine something along the lines of a “sixth sense” or “Spider Sense” or Will’s goose bumps from Stranger Things where your body senses something off in the environment

Why are more people not talking about this? Why are they rolling them out 1 by 1? Just wait until they’re all done and release them all at once, otherwise the vision of 5.5 isn’t there. I honestly think this edition might catch hate just for that alone because people are going to experience 5.5 characters on 5E rules and not be able to play the game as intended for 2-4 months, and 2-4 months is plenty of time for people to move on and/or swear off 5.5, as if plenty haven’t already after the OGL incident.

I pre-ordered the new PHB since the new rules and additions look promising. I'll probably use it like a sort of 5.5e where I take the best rules from both versions to run the kind of game my players prefer
@wizzolo5 ай бұрын
I won't judge a book by its cover, as the updated rules seem good, and this books might be great, but I'll judge the cover itself: the default cover art is pretty bad imho. In the monster manual we see a spellcaster casting a spell right in front of a beholder antimagic eye, and none of the characters seems intimidated by it enough to even look at it, it should be the main threat and the focus of the charatcers attention, possibly showcasing it's antimagic ability. In the player's handbook, the gold dragon anatomy is a total mess, I can't understand what pose it's in, or why its right arm and wings seem malformed and out of proportion. This is partially hidden by the cropping of the cover, but in the full image it's clear there's something wrong. The characters too have very odd poses, in particular the ranger legs, the arms of the spellcaster are awkwardly posed, almost backward, and her staff interacts oddly with her cloak going behind it instead of in front of it. The knight in the front too has some golden light reflecting on his gauntlets that don't seem to make sense, I suppose it's intended to be a reflection of the wizard's spell, but the light shouldn't bounce there, it's out of place, and it breaks the silhouette of the gauntlet. The alternative covers do a significantly better job, as the art is more stylized, less cluttered, and has a clear artistic direction.

Oh wow! This is so exciting and interesting. There are more changes than I thought. The developers may as well call the new thing 6E. I think 6E can introduce bold new things and still be backwards compatible with 5E adventure module books. The bastions and the subclasses are especially interesting. I just learned that wizards get four subclasses instead of eight. That blew my mind. If there is going to be a setting described in the DM game, I expected this would be Forgotten Realms. That is the main one. Grayhawk is unexpected. I don't know much about that. I personally enjoy homebrew. That includes house rules. I am pleased that DND developers are listening to the community and incorporating the best house rules. There are two things I would like. One is using mana instead of spell slots as a magic resource. Another is having randomness removed or at least reduced. Maybe these can be alternate rules in the DM guide.

The overview sounds good, the art looks AMAZING! I'm dying to have the DMG with Venger on the cover. What an amazing callback. I also saw a sample of Tiamat art within that book that looks gorgeous. I'm really keen on the new rules updates. We've home brewed so much because there's a bit too much clunk in some of the rules. Examples like bonus action potion use is one. Another is background contains a base feat. I wonder if there's a concept around people who's background is effectively an expertise in something (like a musical instrument or dancing) where they effectively get reliable talent for that. While I have fun thematically/roleplaying epic fails on those, mechanically it seems weird that a pro flute player would just naturally play like garbage (assuming no weird interfernece). Looking forward to more videos on what we're getting in the future.
