DNF would have been a hit in Arcades, but as an "at home, online" game it suffers.

I think what turned many people off after some time later. Was that the game had huge and high percent of comeback factors that were really easy to do. That and everything in this game feels like a 2 or 1 touch of death type combos.

I think the biggest obstacle in DNF Duels path is the original devs and license holders, Neople. From what I have heard everything about how DNF Duel has handled its communications is EXACTLY how Neople handles it. Yes, Neople themselves almost NEVER releases any communication about patches until they are done, even for the MAIN mmo game, and they do pretty much no PR work at all. But they don't need to since Dungeon Fighter Online is so strong in it's home market that thry have an intensely loyal fanbasd and make money anyway, and they apparently treat DNF Duel the same way- nothing is said or done without Neople's approval, so if they don't want the dev-team to say anything, nothing is said. But as one can see, you can't just transplant unicorn-behavior like that into the fighting game genre, or ANY other genre these days really, and expect to get away with it. Shame for DNF Duel, but that's how it goes...

2:32 playstation 5 player here, I'm sad to report that honestly, console is pretty much dead unless you are willing to play with some random EVO sweat from across sea like South Korea or Japan at 3AM. This game is easily one of the most fun fighting games I've ever played, of my 7 years of being into this genre, as well as the easiest to get into for new people interested in fighting games because it has modern inputs options for those who struggle with classic inputs. DNF literally had the sadist death in gaming I've ever seen hopefully one day the devs will get their shit together, release DLC characters in a timely manner, make the game $15 or atleast free, and give us cross-play because this game desperately needs it, and for the love of God give us a Xbox port It still baffles me to this day we got a Nintendo switch port with (no rollback netcode) before a Xbox series X port, genuinely who's bright idea was that ?

@MetaSynForYourSoul Жыл бұрын
If your "crossplay" is between PS4 and PS5, you don't have crossplay!! Every fighting game, from now on, needs to be crossplay on all platforms they release on. I don't care if you gotta do it through Fightcade or something like that, Capcom, Netherrealm, ArcSys, SNK, Arika, Namcai's Bandos, and anybody else I forgot, you want us to play your game for 5+years?! MAKE *_THIS_* HAPPEN, SON!! I mean, really, every genre should be crossplayin'! The only reason other genres can get away with not doing it is that their player bases are far more robust than any fighter. Even though there's more players than ever before and it's ostensibly a new golden age in fighting games, fighting games are still probably the hardest single genre of video games (I personally call fighters The Final Boss of Video Games) to get into and even get to the feeling of proficiency let alone mastery. They require some dedication to truly unlock the fun, so to speak. And that's why, even in the new "Golden Era" 2 million copies sold since launch are HUGE celebration numbers for Street Fighter and Guilty Gear. If COD, Halo, or Madden only sold 2 million copies, the franchise would be considered "dead." Fighters are also the longest lasting of all genres guaranteed 2 seasons at least of DLC, some games 4 or 5, and generally 5 years before the next installment comes out, we get the most play time with fighting games as a whole. Shoot, we STILL PLAY tons of past games to this day. I can jump on right now and get a match on MKX or Injustice 2, SF x T, or USF4 or UMVC3. We get allot of use out of the game even if it's 4 or 5 even 10 years+ later, far more than most other genre's players who buy a new game every year. On a side note, if you have PS4/5 PS premium is worth it for a fighting game fan. You get MK11, MKX, SFV, PRBFTG, Tons of retro and PS3 fighters like Mark of the Wolves, Arcana Heart and USF4, DBFZ, INJUSTICE 1 AND 2, even newer games like Melty Blood Type Lumina, Soul Calibur VI, and Granblue Fantasy VS all FOR FREE! I was shocked when I saw all the fighting games I could get. Plus major discounts on Tekken7 AND Samurai Shōdown so you can get the complete versions for like 10 or 15 bucks each, normally with all the DLC it being over 100 each. So yeah, if you wanna play fighting games and you own a Playstation, now it's the perfect time to get in the mix, FOR FREE!

Personally I think DNF Duel’s current state is mostly the result of player expectations more than anything. There are dozens of beloved classic fighting games which never got modern “developer support” outside of full price version updates and people still love and play those games to this day. DNF just unfortunately exists within an era where lighting fast live service is the norm and players brought that expectation with them. Personally I don’t really think the game would have tanked so hard if expectations weren’t so exclusive to any developer that can’t meet the increasingly high update speeds people want from competitive games nowadays. That, and they REALLY should have made another single player mode instead of banking on online play to carry the game so hard.
@felipeborges830 Жыл бұрын
The gameplay is not really that interesting to be honest... nobody wants to deal with gigantic normals/movies, restricted space, guardbreak in a game that has close to none defensive mechanics, watch +40 second combos frequently and deal with that weird gray life and cancel mechanics... game is bad (meaning its not gone please most as it is) design wise as a FG. On top of that it has no content to even atract some casual player who just wants to play something single player and nothing else.

In SF6 you can choose your control scheme. In this game you can't. Both simple and complex commands are enabled. Which is annoying for two reasons. The directional input commands often end on the same direction for the simple input. It's hard to tell if you got the command right or hit the simple input. Also you might get a completely different move then what you were trying to do.

It's a little funny to look at how many people commented that the game was free on the Epic Games Store last December... but also, nobody mentioned their experience with playing the game for free. Really makes you think. SteamDB playercount continues to sit at double digits, around 30 people a day. Sure, that doesn't count people who don't have the game through Steam, and the peak playercount *did* bump up to nearly 300 in December, but it has since returned to average numbers. From what narrative I'm getting from the comments about this game, it's like an anime fighter with simple controls, some TOD combos, egregiously long attack animations, and limited defensive options - not to mention that it doesn't seem to have much of an online presence outside of whatever dedicated community is still playing the game. Seems *okay* as long as you can find people to play with, otherwise you're not getting much mileage from the game. The game is currently $20 (until Feb. 18th). ...although, you could *also* consider playing Guilty Gear instead. Honestly I thought they were the same game tbh - cel-shaded 2.5D fighting game in the Unreal Engine with a gear motif for the branding, also developed by Arc System Works.

"Some other guilty gear games" As blazblue is hovered is pain. I only played the dnf betas and was pretty hyped before the betas though. I used to really like the mmo, but my biggest gripe with dnf was the simple inputs and how they'd overlap if you tried to input a motion. I'm fine with "modern" in sf6 even though I feel it dilutes the game a little, and granblue balanced around simple inputs (used to anyways). So for me at least DNF just went a little too far with that.

My least favorite thing is when I see posts saying the game isn’t Dying since 2 people still play it or When someone says that the games dead because the community is just haters. I feel like those people neglect the fact that this is a product you spend money on, so why the fuck would you spend money on a game with such a low player base population and game mechanics that everyone agrees arent competitively fun and make the game worse overall? Just buy any other fighting game and be happy guys, DNF isn’t the first, last, or even a decent anime fighting game.

I really like the game but even though it has simplified controls for a fighter, it feels over conplicated still and they try to have a lot of mechanics. I dont like the rock paper scizors feeling of the moves. Like top middle and bottom attacks, some attacks can hit on ground some cant and its not because of hitboxes its because of a programmed property. It feels off when a move visually hits but doesnt actually. The other thing is that the game just feels unfair. No matter what character you play, if you are loosing it feels like you are playing the worst character.

I will be blatantly honest here, video and comments even within reason have a point wrong, first let me give some context, game dev here with 10+ years of experience, but not just simply game dev, game analyst and at that I have known quite a few games and analyzed more than I can count at this point, counting succeses and fails, so what Im going to say comes from a place of have seen pretty much more games and played them than the mayority of people (a game a week since i was 15 in 2004 do the math, also I spent every coin i got in games saving every once my aprent gave me, and b ought some second hand ones) I became a pro because I liked games, and after working in this industry there is a flaw in both devs and supposed gamers, people talk money first both sides, Listen here sure your money should go to an investment but you know what experience taught me there was a time that game analisys dictated what I play, not anymore, cause after all that the thing is you have to play what is fun not the good, and balanced or the funny and interesting. sure those things "can" garantee some quality and fun, but that is not always the case, My point being DNF Duel is fun and it will continue to be regardless posibly will be rediscovered by another generation that will lament that is no longer online, instead of making an attempt of a company to try and make something fun and punish it for it we should motivate devs to make games that are this fun and improve, but if they dont have the income guess what everyone loses. and to contextualize, I never had more fun than when I bought a game bindly in my teens not because they were great pieces of media, but because they all where fun, and i didnt measure fun by how much of my wallet worth they made, sure i had some flops but 4 flops in 17 years is a negligible number, enjoy your games people...

While I understand your stance and where you're coming from (I'm an aspiring game dev myself, with 8+ years of miscellaneous OOP experience), I want to agree to disagree here. Sure, as long as you have a long-term fun and enjoyable experience playing a game, then the price tag doesn't really matter much. However, if the game doesn't fulfill its purpose for being X amount of someone's local currency, then people are *absolutely* going to have a sour taste in their mouth regarding how much they spent for such a middling experience - and they'll likely lament their misfortunes online for others to hear. Reviews like this video serve a purpose for those who want a second opinion on a game they may be interested in; they are mere suggestions and shouldn't be taken as a call to action (or lack thereof), but just a bit of a push to sway viewers towards or against purchasing such a product. On Steam, DNF Duel is rated *Mixed* with 61% of reviews being positive by other players. I wouldn't buy the game without understanding what I'm getting myself into with a rating that low. Buy the game. Look out for a discount. Wait until it's free. Pirate the game. Either route you take here, the gameplay shall remain the same - you still have to determine if you got your money's worth at the end of the day. Reviews only serve to assist in deciding if the game could be fun *before* you purchase.

@@NyoBleu I get it and respect it, yet consider this bit as part of my original point, game core and purpose, from a game theory stand point those are the vital point of fun, but what happens when all the extras are modifier to that particular core, what happens when the core is solid but people focus the value worth on the extras? Again from a game theory core gameplay standpoint, there is no easy answer, and I really hope as you aspire to create games profesionally that you understand this bit, as beign pracmatical in this industry has led a lot of devs to actually turn on thay very same context you said, since getting the worth out of the price is a complete 180 turn depending on the side that you stand on, on a perfect world a price tag of 60 dollars should suffice for both devs and players the truth is it doesnt, for gamers there is a connotation that makes 60 dollars believe that the game worth should make every aspect of the game fun to them including extras, but for devs that same price tag nowadays is not enough to cover some basic expenses specially in more indie games, an actual game costs around 75$ a piece to make between licenses, time consumption and paying the devs, not even counting publishers expenses and other extras, so selling at 60 or even less is not realistic but it is done to cover "expectation" the industry already gets that part that you said, but then thay means using other methods to achieve the resulta and that is where things chance for better or worse, reducing the price will have an impact, and not reducing has another, for some devs is about that cost beign worthed and as a dev that means an entirely different thing than as a player, if you want to keep doing games and do them right you will eventually find a hard point here and need to make a decision, in my case I sacrified money to make the game fun and worth it for people, but that is not going to cut for some devs even if they dont do it for the money some companies cant afford to cut price or expand the game further that easily, that is why is nore complicated than what you said. And once again I agree thay every game should be fun enough for people to find its worth but that is tricky. Also sorry for the wall of text I had to write while I had your statement fresh in my mind and do so from my cellphone

Straigh to the point, good review but, you missed something crucial, the game outside the beautiful aesthetics, and cool sound design, is made with the ass, it look like these guys are amateurs and don't know how a fighting game works, in a game with full screen mugen shit attacks and supers, you can't air block, some characters don't even need to get a counter hit to make 60-70% of damage, for long combos like that, you don't have a burst or a combo breaker, some Dp's are almost unpunishables, some dp's can link to combos, infinite strings that easily break defense, and a lot more frustrating stuff haha but don't get me wrong, I don't hate the game, is quite fun, but it comes to a point that is head scratching like, what the hell these dudes were thinking? Aside from everything else with the game that's problematic, one big pet peeve I have is that Awakening Supers only add one hit to the combo counter when more often than not, the animations look like the opponent is hit more than once.

Yeah, dnf duel sadly doesn't get as much support as any of the guilty gear games.

A fighting game for people who don't play fighters.

Eh ... it's free at EPIC. Can't complain.

I was hoping DNF duel would be a good game to get into fighting games with after trying with a few others and not being able to get into it. but instead it convinced me to stop trying with fighting games all together because they are poorly developed and poorly supported and extremely poorly balanced. just better off doing something else with your time.

I know this feeling... It's like building a real sweet PC then finally it's game time but nothing interests or clicks with you! I recommend GBVSR demo helped me find a place to learn some cool stuff plus it's cross play with ps4/ps5 so that helps with people if online is your thing. If you haven't tried it all your giving up is a little time to try a new adventure! XD PS. If you truly are done with fighting games I hope your next hobby hits you in all the right ways your looking for!

On top of that it has no content to even atract some casual players who just wants to play something single players and nothing else.

I think the game is wack and I'd have bought it if it were lewder. Kind of a drag when a friend wants to play it
@ArcCaravan Жыл бұрын
Sounds like a single player fighting game.

I'd pay a reduced price for the full game, not that throttled one they sell and then try to shove the "dlc" down your throat.
