Mr. Parker, thank you for your videos. You explain it in an excellent way. It was only with you that I understood some things about photo editing.

I've installed Adobe DNG Converter 17 but it hasn't given me an icon, how do I launch it?

You stated at 3:28 that you would link to a video in the description area that explains more about "XMP for Lightroom Classic". I'm not seeing that link. Is it labeled differently than stated? Please advise.

I started using dng files because Topaz and Photoshop Elements wouldn't read my raw photos from the Sony A7V. I am using Lightroom and Photoshop and Elements now but continue to have compatibility issues with Topaz as a plugin. Topaz won't read my my raw photos either. I wonder if you could provide a more advanced video on how to streamline all the software. Thank you.

Really? I just batch imported about a dozen ARW files into topaz, and I did the same through LR. I'm also using an A7RV.

That is interesting. I continue to have issues even though I have made multiple complaints to Topaz. At lease my workaround works. lol@@brandon9638

DNG is essential for any significant digital asset management system that is cost effective and far more flexible than people think. DNG is basically Adobe’s swing into ensuring digital images are truly archival in nature just like PDFs.

I'm just starting to learn photography, so I am paying close attention. Files have a habit of utterly exploding, so I want to start out with something easily organized and accessible.

I hate DNG, I cannot use it in Davinci resolve for some reason as it is not compatible. (RAGE FACE EMOJI)

The color management issues between applications make DNG files a non starter. Any pro who does not have multiple redundant backups needs to rethink their processes. XMP files are nothing files in terms of content so backup is nothing.

IMHO, pick a format and stick with it. With the storage prices being what they are I don't thing the since reduction is really a factor. Time is Money! the time it takes to convert a RAW file to DNG is costly. I don't know anyone that uses just one piece of software to process/edit their RAW file I surely don't. I played with DNG file for a bit but didn't see any real benefit. There is NO perfect file format there are features and flaws in all of them. As for me and my photos and images I'll stick with RAW or NEF in my case. Obviously YMMV, Try both and choose what works best for YOU!

DNG is Adobe's invention so it's not going anywhere anytime soon. This covers anyone who uses different cameras or who wants to work on files on different software. You pays your money and takes your chance. DNG vs RAW is still unanswered for me
