Depends on the definition of being successful. If it's just to get a lot of money you can just (as a poor person) go and rob jewelry stores or banks. If you're black or white or a man or a woman doesn't matter, because there are always ways that you can get a lot of money from. Sure, if you're filthy rich you are going to have it easier to get more money since you've already got that momentum going, but if you're poor you are going to have it a bit harder finding ways but it still won't be a huge problem that is unsolvable.

Timothy really said he traveled to third world countries to see what it's like to be poor. That has to be the most tone deaf thing I’ve ever heard on the internet. Same thing as when privileged college girls go to third world countries to take pictures with the kids...

Yup, totally agree! I'm from a third world country who was born in a garbage dump. And I just can't with these comments. Never in his life and other privileged lives will ever know the pain, the struggle, that people in third world country have to face. I got lucky and was adopted.

@tracknation72853 жыл бұрын
You’re missing the point and once again projecting your insecurities upon the rich. He acknowledged that he did not grow up poor so he doesn’t fully understand the experience. Him going to third world countries is not a way for him to assert his dominance over then but to acquire perspective from those living in those destitute conditions. Of course never having personally experienced first hand is not the same as attempting to experience it second hand but the comment served as him *trying* to understand the struggles poor people go through, which he clearly stated he has a hard time understanding (which should not be a bad thing). And when he said he was envious of the other millionaires upbringing, he wasn’t saying he wished to grow up being destitute and wretched poor like those in 3 world countries. He was saying he wished he had the opportunity to endure some of the struggles his fellow millionaires went through, because it could help him appreciate his current status more and provide more perspective to those less fortunate than him.

Fuchsteufelswild Agreed. Being broke does not meant you can’t have other good things and being rich doesn’t mean everything is great. However, the question clearly meant poor as in “not having money”. If you lived in a penthouse while getting domestically abused, that is awful and I am so sorry that happened to you...but you weren’t poor. It’s a bad experience but that also wasn’t the question. It’s like being “my parents got divorced when I was young”, again, it sucks, but it’s not about being poor.

Like happiness doesn't have anything to do with being poor. Poor is not a mindset. It's a financial reality. Poor people can be happy, but still be poor. They face different struggles. Rich people can be sad and depressed, but their struggles are different in life. Poor is something in and of itself that you have to experience to know. Saying she's never been poor because she was happy is bull. she's probably never been poor period. saying they were broke, but really what does she mean by that? come on.

Then don't be poor? Simple as that. Unless you have a disability or you're carrying someone else’s weight, then it's not your fault. Everybody can get rich if they understand it's not always about school and getting a career. If you're a 16 year old and your parents are extremely broke, it is achievable to get rich by working your ass off and getting into real estate / business / etc. But most people don't put the effort in, you can take 90 hour weeks being drained, but people dont.

@@enriqueisaacs8181 let me put this in perspective since “trillions (of dollars) a day” is a substantial overexaggeration for all but a few companies. these millionaires made at least a million dollars in their lifetime by definition. for a multibillion dollar company to increase their worth by another billion in a year requires a few millions of dollars per day.

Not true at all. Everyone can be healthy but not everyone is. It’s about discipline. Everyone can become rich if they push themselves. Most people do not have the discipline to work that hard for that long.

@@musicchaos7342 Discipline is not enough, a big part is privilege, for instance Musk said he was broke, but his father possessed a half of an Emerald mine, was he really broke? No! There is a lot of people working more than 12 hours a day just to survive, do you think that working 12 h a day is not being disciplined enough? Seriously???

"I was only given a couple of thousands dollars" But you weren't. There's a huge difference between having thousands of dollars, and having thousands of dollars that you can risk invest. All money I've tied up in stocks is money that I'm willing to accept that I can lose. It's very unlikely I'd lose all of it, and it would suck hard if I lost it; but if I WOULD lose it, I still have enough money to survive and keep my apartment for some time. And that's the difference, it's not about "x amount of money", at one period of someone's life they probably do have e.g. 2000 dollars in one form or another (inheritance, value of a car, partial value of a house, etc), it's about if I have financial flexibility to invest it.
@spaceT9994 жыл бұрын
Well in that case invest in stocks that are not risky then then put a down payment on a house if you live where living is cheap but yeah he did get that privilege but that doesn't mean you cant reach his success its just going to be a lot harder which sucks but thats life its unfair. :/ Good luck with your journey tho

Space Nerd problem with that is that you get little amounts of money ( low percentage of what you invested anyways), very, very slowly. But yes, it is smart to have some sort of passive income.

Nah. He thinks that if you work hard and use your head then making money is just a matter of time. Which is true for a lot of people. Unfortunately he doesn't quite realise how unfair the world is to many people. That many people do not have the opportunity or the sheer luck to be able to work hard to obtain success. Many poor people do work hard, do use their heads. But unfortunately it's not good enough.
