I've learned so much watching Matt's videos. Casting long and parallel to a weed bed or lily pad patch and varying your retrieve speed is a killer technique for pike or bass. It's all about keeping the lure in the "strike zone" as long as possible. Also, that pause that Matt gives just after the lure hits the surface is so important because predator fish home in on the splash. That gives them a few seconds to get to the lure and then you get that reaction strike. Cast. Pause. Twitch. Retrieve. Got a decent (19" 4lb) largemouth just last night doing that... on the Whopper Plopper! 😁
@hunterkarr5618Ай бұрын
Yeah that sure is a pretty cast

What can I say about Matt that hasn't already been said, calm, cool, organized, highly experienced and always willing to step out of his comfort zone with some "weird" lure that he makes work - big time. His boxes of plastics are probably rotting away in the garage. Always a pleasure to meet with you on your Saturday morning kayak adventures with a cup of coffee.

When I saw the title I thought this was going to be a Muskie and/or Pike video. I was impressed by how well you know your tackle. You launched that first cast and NO backlash. That's having your equipment dialed in from the get go! That first fish was pretty impressive. That third fish cracked me up. I think the girth of the lure was bigger than the girth of that little bass. All those strikes were pretty awesome sounding and looked cool too. When you got close to the boat I wasn't too attentive. I figured if one of those fish hit that close to the boat you would've died from a heart attack and we wouldn't be watching a video. I would have liked to have seen that battery change strike. You're still alive so it must not have been tooo vicious. That looked like a lot of fun! Thanks for sharing. It's been over 30 years since I had a bass fishing trip like that one! It was great to be able to share yours with you. Blessings.

I have been fishing the same lake in NH for over 50 years and when you’re smart like he is and fish where fish are and adapt properly to the variables present…you can use a piece of shoestring on a hook and catch fish. I’ve been saying that to myself and a few people who understand for like at least 30 years and this guy is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Part of fishing where fish are is general and then dialed down to a square foot often times and his casting is a huge part of why Matt slays almost every time out. Sick fisherman. P.S…I’ve caught smallies with shoestring a few times to prove to myself that I pretty damn good myself….and I can cast about as good as Matt but he’s better than me.
@ndyakangler2 ай бұрын
You got it! Figuring out where the fish are, casting accuracy, and then watching how the fish react to your lure are the best ways to catch more fish! I missed several bites on my rat lure the other day so I took off the tail, 100% hook up ratio the rest of the day!

I used to beat up a chub minnow, put my hand in the water, and I wouldn’t even have my hand in the water for 5 seconds and one would swipe the minnow out of my hand. I also used to hold a minnow, or even a strip of bologna in my hand above the water and these Bass used to jump right out of the water to get it. Whenever I would approach the tank, they would come right up, ready to be fed. They are awesome pets. I miss them. I’m Canadian.
