Not to mention the change in hair texture. Bear white and Asian boys getting curly perms to get curly ethnicity hair. It’s crazy.

Black people, specifically Jamaican Canadians are 100% the true influence of cool Canadian culture. Period. I’ve watched my own culture of boys and men specifically following suit. Thank you for sharing your culture with us, even though it’s so terribly appropriated without the credit you all deserve. 💛Toronto wouldn’t be a recognized city internationally without y’all. 🤌🏾

Thing is nuff people from the hood's eventually moved to the suburbs as well. You would think other groups who have way more people than us would be more influential.

Real Black Canadians exist. The influx of carribbeans in the 70s absorbed us, many of us also mixed with you. Also, many of us multiracial because we’ve been here for hundreds of years so we may not look “Black” to you. But we were representing before you got here. My cousin on the $10 Bill.

@user-us9qr8pr2n Black people have been in Canada since the 1800s, thanks to the underground railroad and abolitionists from slavery. This also includes the Black Loyalists in Nova Scotia and there was Caribbean influx during that period as well.

Yes. Urban centres aka the Cities and even some remote/rural areas are influenced by Black culture. It's the current trend and has impact worldwide, one can even argue.

Definitely, Jamaicans have influenced the way we talk here in Toronto especially the youth/teens/young adults ..There are even Patois interpreters for Accused/witnesses for Toronto court proceedings, if needed or requested by the court.

100% on JA influence culture, especially TO slang. Another ting is ppl (white. black & brown) who ain't from the hood wanna be in that life cuz it gets glamourized through social media, music & videos. Ppl from poverty who really live through those tuff situations strive to make it to the suburbs with a good income which is the goal.

Here's the real question, why do Jamaicans have such a strong influence in Toronto, i mean there's other people from the islands and even more people from all over the world that also live in Toronto and we don't even attempt to speak like them, the Jamaican culture definitely dominates Toronto and i can't understand why that is, almost everybody wants to speak Jamaican patois in the city and eat jerk chicken and rice and peas, oxtail, curry goat, beef patty etc nobody talks about doubles or bake and shark, pelau 😂

friends copy their friends, its what people do, everywhere Jamaicans go people copy parts of the culture and make it their own because its cool beans. it can be emasculating to not fit in among peer groups, social media amplifies it, sometimes the results are okay, sometimes its goofy as fuck, its hard to be deaf and blind to whats going on around you and wanting to participate.
