“Can’t you just use WiFi calling?” This is a good question that I should have addressed in the video. Yes, Optimum Mobile supports WiFi calling. The issue I was having is the iPhone will only use WiFi calling when there is NO cell signal. It gives priority to the carrier even with the crappy signal inside the house. If I put my phone in airplane mode with WiFi on, it would work better than not. It’s just unreasonable to expect people to toggle airplane mode all the time. So this is an alternative.

I bought a couple of these about five years ago and shipped them down to a children’s home in Matamoras Mexico. They made all the difference and creating usable cell service and are still in use today! Your house is looking beautiful by the way!

Does your carrier not allow wifi calling? That seems much less hassle than installing a cell booster.

Exactly. I love his content but this video was disappointing

For me I can make wifi calls but cannot send text messages. It is not a perfect solution.

Do you suppose this would work for my Verizon WiFi box considering it’s essentially a cell phone?
@handydadtv16 күн бұрын
I assume it would work but you’d need to test it.

I use a very similar cell booster on my fifth wheel trailer (Weboost…). It seems to be hit and miss. Sometimes it has been very helpful, and other times it increases our “bars”, but the throughput remains poor. I suppose it may depend on the Cell Network carrier…

I instead used a verizon box for a while that turned house verizon signals into internet communications. Now we cut out the middle man and just do our verizing phoning directly over wifi; essentially VOIP. This is fortunate, because an urban forest shadows our neighborhood from practically all of the closest tower's signal. My frequent complaints to the company fall on deaf ears.

Verizon has excellent coverage in NJ but it’s also the most expensive.

I have a similar situation that you do I have US cellular which is going to soon become T-Mobile because T-Mobile purchased US Cellular and I have a workaround since I have an Samsung phone which is an Android I put the phone in airplane mode and then turn the Wi-Fi radios back on on my phone and I can make phone calls and send text messages over my Wi-Fi connection. I do not drop calls I do not have any issues whatsoever so I have the ability to force my phone to stay in Wi-Fi now some new iPhones you can choose which you prefer it to use either the cellular antenna or Wi-Fi and if your iPhone has that ability to have it default to Wi-Fi first and then cellular that would be your workaround until they install more towers

Therefore there is no need for an added expense for a Wi-Fi booster which I've heard can make people sick in their house because the signal is too strong

I never seen scientific proof of boosters causing physical harm. If they did, I’m sure there would be lawsuits and warnings on the box, just like with cigarettes. Please share if you have proof. For me, WiFi calling would only work if I toggled into airplane mode. That’s a huge hassle because I’d forget when leaving the house and I’d receive no calls.

@handydadtv I don't have any scientific fact I just have what Wranglerstar felt after he installed it in his house some people are more sensitive to that stuff than others

I don’t see the point these days. Most cell phones can switch to using WiFi when you’re at home.
@handydadtv15 күн бұрын
Unfortunately iPhone seems to prioritize a crappy carrier signal over WiFi calling. It only uses WiFi calling when there’s no carrier signal.

@ I have an iPhone 12ProMax and it uses WiFi whenever I’m connected to it. I did have to turn it on. It also needs to be supported by your carrier so maybe your carrier can also set when it switches to WiFi. I use ting (over Verizon) but it also worked as expected when I had xfinity.

@@handydadtv I just found this. Maybe it’ll help. “on an iPhone - go to Settings > Cellular, then scroll ALL the way down to the bottom of the screen. You'll see Wi-Fi Assist. Toggle this OFF. Basically, Wi-Fi Assist does the opposite of Wi-Fi Calling: It tries to connect to cell service if the Wi-Fi connection is weak. So it's like Wi-Fi Assist is fighting against Wi-Fi Calling, I suppose. I switched off Wi-Fi Assist, and so far I'm more often seeing Wi-Fi Calling turn on when I'm at one bar.” Couldn’t hurt.

I joined Optimum Mobile during their initial rollout and got unlimited service at $20 per line for life. So I’m never switching.
