This is a good video. I believe many people wrongly claim that AGM batteries do not last. The most common reason is undercharge which leads to sulfation. I have seen AGM batteries that are over 11 years old still pulling close to full capacity, in one case I know of a gel VRLA battery lasting 17 years long.

You are correct many systems do very well with AGM batteries. Thanks for your comment.

Just make sure that if you run 12 volts on certain batteries that every battery whether you have AGM make sure they're matching AGM batteries make sure they're 12 volt 12 volt is it possible that you can get 300 Amper hours on three AGM batteries not yet 10 batteries in parallel you could get a thousand per hours depending on your power needs.

I've had differentials in AGM batteries and lead acid batteries the DieHard battery never did perform the DieHard battery by the date never performs like it did when I first got it and I had die hard gold it worked 10 years and still holding the charge but it was a friend's battery and we still started the truck with it and it's still good today after I talked it with distilled water and I did put a little bit more electrolyte in it it came up like new and we kept it the die hard back then is not the die hard now die hard now is crap so I think it's just a name they don't make batteries like they used to anymore.

I've got some small SLA that I got for a kids electric dirt bike. They have been going good for a few years. Can get them cheap at Walmart, they carry ones for electric deer feeders in the hunting department, got a bunch of 6v, 20ah/20hr for 2 bucks each. Missed out on the 12v, 7.5ah/20hr for $7 each

I pass on AGM batteries, had 4 of them die every year as soon as it gets cold in Houston Tx, changed to lead acid battery ,and it's going on 3 years strong on my 2016 Mazda 6.

Hello Mr. Shoestring, I am Rob from Tampa, thank you so much for the info. I look fwd to all your videos. Can you do a video on fuses and circuit breaker on a solar setup? I have a H. F. 100 w. Solar panel, and 2 - 100 ah. Sealed Lead Acid Batteries. Looking to get a 1500 - 2000 W - P. Inverter from H. F. Waiting for coupons from same, as well as another 100 w. Solar Panel. Thanks again, Rob.

What is the ideal charge and float voltage? How do you set control?

I have been enjoying your videos lately. I’m trying to build my own budget system with a second hand jumpstarter power station. I have a technical question. If you have your solar system running and your battery is in absorption/ float mode does the charge controller let more current in the system if a load is applied? Or does it wait for battery to be depleted then only apply current after battery voltage drop. My setup would use the same size battery as your smaller one. If there was a way to minimize battery cycling while the solar system is active I would be interested in know what the best way to do that would be. Trying to keep the battery cool during hot days.

I'm pleased you have enjoyed the videos. I am not a technical expert. But I have never had my batteries overheat while properly connected to a charge controller. Let us know how your system works out. Thanks for your comment.

I believe lithium is cheap enough and is far superior in other aspects such as usable energy and charging efficiency and coloumbic efficiency to make lead acid look unattractive if you don't have a specific use for it.

Pretty sure I got a broken one because it doesn’t hold power worth a damn and it won’t take more than 13 V input. It says 14.4 cilic use. But I can’t get it above 13. Pretty sure Walmart Sold me a broken battery.
