Do Fabric Markers Work? (Review)

In a video done in 2013 the lady doing the video suggests to pre wash the fabric and after painting let set 24 hours. Than re wash using a mild detergent and either hang to dry or use low temp in the dryer. Also if you are doing a shirt place a card board form in between the layers. Or cut you own out from a box to fit the shirt and sleeves. I saw on another site awhile back when using fabric paint to use salt to set the colors after its dried (rub it on) shake off the excess. I haven't tried that yet but good for experimenting with.

@@JennieMasterson Do a test piece of material first before you use the main piece. Make sure it's the same type, and weight of material. You are welcome :)

Thank you for your insights! I've been a professional athlete on a world level for over 40 years. People are bombarding me to sign T-Shirts and other materials that stretches when signing an autograph. So far, I not found one product that does not pull when using for this purpose. I've spent hours reading and watching videos. I am astounded that no ones mentions any marker that flows over cloth surfaces. The only thing I that come close is a steel rollerball paint marker. IMO, Sharpies are the worse! What are your thoughts?

I'm still exploring my options but if I go with these tulip markers for my fabric project I'll buy them through your link. I really do appreciate your thorough and honest review here and the fact that you took to try them on different fabrics, wash them all, and show us the various results for every single color. Also, thanks for the heads up on the deceptively pale pink colored pen. Why? Why do they do that??

Put sandpaper under it to make it easier. It keeps the open from catching by holding the shirt more still.

Not really, these markers can only show up on materials lighter than their color. If you want to do light colors on dark fabric, you should look at fabric paint instead!

I just got fabric markers but I haven't used them yet cause it got too late to use. I kinda want to get pain markers will that work for shirts too?

If the paint markers are labeled for fabric they should work fine. I would stay away from acrylic paint for fabric though.

Can fabric markers wash out? I messed up on my fabric. I don’t have anymore and my mom doesn’t want to buy mor. Which is understandable. She already spent almost 200 getting me supplies. Anyway can fabric marker wash out? Please please let me know as soon as possible

As far as I know, these particular ones are meant to be permanent.

Hi, thanks for reaching out! I didn't have to iron before washing, but you might check the package instructions before washing. Especially if it's a different brand. Just make sure you give it the full drying time. :)

I can't say for sure, but I tend to think it might bleed a little more on plush. You could always try it on a sample size piece and see how it works out.

yea no I'm pretty sure it only work well on white fabric. If you want to decorate your jeans, you could try fabric stickers, and iron it on your jeans.
