How did I got into anime? We use to play with Beyblade and Pokemon cards in school library and then Dragon ball came from television in summer of 2005 and all of my friends were calling me asking if we were watching the same thing. It was out of this world experience for all of us and the rest were blown up by Freiza, as they say or the rest is history or anime or whatever :P

I didn't actually know what anime was until a friend of mine introduced me to DBZ when it was on Toonami. Before that tho I had some interest with watching, in order, Sailor Moon (UPN), Slayers & Escaflowne (FOX Kids) back in the 90s. Personally for something just enjoyable, I'd recommend, if you haven't seen already, Angelic Layer & Gundam Build Fighters. Similar concepts, but just all around enjoyable series.

Go to Anime conventions ^^ People are usually very cringe but friendly. In Montreal, where i live, there is The Otakuthon. Pretty cool, very cringe but everyone is having a good time.I took my Canon 60D and cosplayed myself in Anbu Kakashi and made some pictures of cosplayers. I was able to have the phone numbers and emails of everyone i talked to, any girls, any groups. I bought a Death Note on Ebay and was writting their name (to send them the pictures) But the everyone was confused because i was there, doing nothing looking at my watch. Then i was dropping the Death note on the floor purposely. Everyone was freaking out and laughing. Made a bunch of friends easily. Just be creative :D

Really enjoyed your story time. I guess I got into anime because it was everywhere for me growing up. Not exactly the types you were exposed to. I used to read manga as a child in Kanagawa, and it just seemed like a simple transition. Anime helped me make friends here in the US. When I moved here at the age of 14, there was a major culture shock and I couldn't connect with anyone but one day Dragon Ball came up. Boom. Friends.

The amount of people that are STILL obsessed with Deathnote. ... To be fair I never did watch it. Kind of just slipped under my radar and with the amount of people that just sing its praises both makes me curious and puts me off equally. Full Metal Alchemist I seem to be the only person in the world that didn't like either it or FMAB. Either way I always love hearing people's experiences getting into anime. It's always just like "My people!" for the most part. My introduction was coming home from school in the late 90s and watching Gundam Wing, Sailor Moon, DBZ, Escaflowne, Rurouni Kenshin or whatever else was on. This was like when I was between the ages of five and nine. My parents were pretty lenient on what stuff I could and couldn't watch for the most part so I always had stuff like an age rating more than what some would consider giving their kids so I didn't have friends who knew about most of these shows until I was like 13-14. I still had some friends but it was kinda hard to talk to them when they didn't share a lot of the same interests. It was only later, after my parents divorced that I found out about adult swim however and started watching Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop and other shows but anime pretty well defined my tastes in shows on T.V. for the most part.

I recall Dragon Ball being on Saturday morning around 6, but was never up early enough to get into it. However, my uncle gave my cousin and I two distinct titles on VHS for Christmas eventually. Akira for me(I freaking love that movie) and Ninja Scroll for him(also a great movie). That's all it took for me to start digging it. DBZ started on Toonami and I was hooked. The Faulconer/Morgan soundtrack didn't hurt. Thanks to Team Four Star, I also got interested in Hellsing Ultimate, and thanks to Tom Andre I got into Attack on Titan. I like anime because of the other worldly situations they can display just flow naturally in that style. Looking forward to your Slap on Titan reactions. I'll say this, the first three episodes are a world building setup to let you know what to expect from the take on the tale. Tom's inspiration for his parody of AoT was that their world was already so f#cked up, how much more f#cked up could they make it while also making it funny. Keep it up, #poundtownforever

I was one of those guys that only watch DBZ back then because I couldn't follow Full Metal and Bleach at the time. But my roommate like 5 years ago convinced me to pick up Naruto and I binged the whole series. It honestly opened the floodgates because I've watch at least different 30+ different shows by now and even read manga from time to time. I'm basically a weeb and honestly wish I could talk to more people about it without them being weirded out. I've never been to a cosplay event but I think I might go to find my people 😭😭😭

I grew up in the 90s. Anime was even rarer to see unless you really looked for it. I kinda remember Vampire Hunter D, but was too young to follow it that well. Toonami and Adult Swim introduced me to DBZ, the original DB (I saw that AFTER DBZ, so I was a bit confused at first). I also saw most of Inuyasha (work kept me too busy to see the final episodes on TV, plus there was about a year where I avoided TV aside from an occasional weather report). So I’m not that deep into anime. I want to explore it now that I have the time and means to watch it, though I prefer to stick to SFW stuff. And that’s my story. Edit: I forgot to mention G Gundam. Still a favorite.

I think people find it weird because DBZ is a "manly" anime, but you already know what I think of that idea. It's all social construct. Because of that, it might be more common for guys to be into anime, but I know for a fact lots of girls like it too. An old friend's friend was treating me as a "pet" because she was an anime fan and I "look like an anime character". I was also the manager of the furniture department where I worked, and contacted a co-manager via facebook messenger on my phone to ask her a work-related question after she'd already left. After that, we'd just bullshit about work together and turned out she was a hardcore anime AND Star Wars fan. I wouldn't have expected that. Not because she's a girl, but because though she's a year younger than me, she conducts herself much more maturely than someone her age. I mean, aside from her I was the hardest working person because not only did I manage furniture, but I did everything in the department (keeping track of inventory, customer orders and issues, leading the sales floor, unloading trucks, putting everything away, building displays, etc..), but at the same time I was far more laid back in the way I carried myself. I didn't act super professional, but I was good with customer service and would work myself to near the point of collapsing to get everything done. I had OCD with keeping everything in the back room organized. Even me, people will look at me and say I don't look like an anime/game nerd. I don't really get what they mean, but something about the way she conducted herself didn't make me guess she was pretty much just like me. Actually more so, because she goes to cons and stuff. I've never gone despite having a few outfits and iconic fantasy swords because I love swords. I just ordered 5 more. Quite a steal for under $37, and they're good quality. I swear though, most of the anime fans I've met (be it irl or online) have been girls. At least, ones I've actually talked to. Most of my subs are anime fans and most of them are guys, but they don't all comment and stuff. Also about that, congrats on the subs. You'll have more than me pretty soon. My stuff's not as easy to watch lol. Though I have a few loyal viewers who comment pretty regularly, and I enjoy talking to them. If I were REALLY popular, I'd be getting too many comments to keep up with them on the universal comment page. So I'm actually glad for the smaller community for now. Because outside of this, I have one irl friend who I still see and talk to. I've been to many places and lived over halfway across the country for a short time (on almost a whim, and came back just as abruptly), so everyone else got pretty much left behind. He was my first friend, and tbh I think any friends I make after that... they don't reach an actual level of friendship. He's the one who's irreplaceable, who I'd never leave behind. Idk if anyone else is capable of making it that far. I have a hard time dividing myself too much. That's also why I like your live reactions too. No other person's vids have I bothered checking out as soon as they upload something to respond right away. Probably because by then, other channels have thousands of comments on the vid lol. But I've seen a few reactions to stuff like DBZA, however those playlists are already done. It's like I'm viewing a memory. Since you're still going through the series, it's like we're right there watching it with you for the first time. It's a different experience from watching Dee Bee Geek go through the series.

And yes I remember Jetix lol. I think Beyblade was on it. I like the seasons with Kai in it. He was so badass. If not, I do remember Jetix had other anime. Digimon was one, though I was more a fan of the first two seasons as they were both part of the same story. And tbh, I think it was also Naruto that got me hardcore into anime. I watched it every day and it was my start into watching anime in Japanese with subs online, and the first manga I ever read. I can't say Naruto stayed consistently good as it went on and got more... eh, best not get into it lol. But it shaped a lot of me. Itachi was my bae, my spirit animal. For a time I had his exact hairstyle, even with it tied in the back lol. I still have his Akatsuki outfit, Sasuke's part 2 outfit when he was with Orochimaru, and a genuine chokuto katana like his sword. There were also some anime on Kids WB on Saturday morning. That was my source of anime before the internet was readily available to me. It wasn't until my short time in New Mexico that I actually watched every DBZ (and GT) episode from start to finish.

I admit to watching anime on... other sites that don't make me pay, but there is one anime I can absolutely recommend to you. Little Busters! and Little Busters! Refrain. Omg it's so good. It's not in my top 5 personally (probably 6), but the feelings it invoked in me... it was THE BEST anime experience I ever had. I don't wanna give too much away, but if you think you understand what the anime is about, just reserve your judgment on that until you watch Refrain. It was such a good anime that, even though I'd seen it from start to finish for free online, I went and payed like $50-$100 (however much it all cost) to buy the DVD/Blu Ray for both seasons. It's the only anime I've ever done that for. It made me cry, and no they were not "manly" tears. I won't say whether they were tears of sadness or joy, but it could just as well be joy because that will make me tear up too lol.

Shinku no Yami oh my I relate so much! I had also watch 4kids TV where I watched Yugioh. There were just so many but at the time i didnt know it was called anime. I just called it cartoons. It wasnt till I was 12 where people who were already harcore anime fans opened the doors to hell for me. They let me borrow manga and DVDs too. And as I grew I learned about subs and also thanks to crunchyroll who gave me legal access to a more anime :D

I almost forgot Yugioh! You know, despite the crap 4kids has done, I do really like stuff like that. Though did you know the Shadow Realm was completely made up by the 4kids dub? Watching the anime in Japanese is very different, and season 0... Atem was just brutal lol. I still have like... 13 decks that were all specifically made and tested on duelingnetwork.com before I bought the cards lol. Only problem I have with the legal sites is they all fight for licenses on different anime to try to draw a customer in, but that in turn kinda divides up the customer's choices by that very exclusivity. I wish they'd all come together so a customer can have EVERYTHING to their access. I'm not too familiar with crunchyroll's contents, but hopefully if I suggest anything, they have it lol. Like I said, Little Busters! and LB! Refrain are A++. I'd lend my set out myself just to get you to experience it, but I haven't even opened it myself xD Partly I bought it after watching it so I could support them because it was just so good. I usually don't watch an anime twice over unless it's been a long time, because I just go to a new anime to broaden my experiences, and also I'm busy playing games and recording it, so I kinda bought it knowing that it'd be a while before I watched it again, if I even do.That was like two years ago. Trying to think of any other anime blocks/channels or specific anime I've forgotten about. Can't believe I forgot about Yugioh because I still see it all the time lol.

Anime is a great way to connect with others. There's a MASSIVE community. Most people I know love anime. Do I? Psshhh... Yeah! I do! Growing up in the 90s, I got to enjoy everything from Dragon Ball to Fist of the North Star to Fullmetal Alchemist. My parents call anime "cartoons". I always have to correct them... anime violence is INSANELY overtuned. NOT. CARTOONS. Anyway. Nothing should stop people from enjoying the things they want to enjoy. Be it anime, cartoons, soap operas, etc. I will continue to watch your reactions! I find it entertaining to laugh along during DBZ abridged, SAO abridged, and the like. I suggest you check out Hellsing Abridged! You'll find yourself laughing a lot with that too :D

Been right there before. For many years I had maybe 3-5 friends who I could watch anime with but it was really limited. No one in highschool becuse then it was cool to diss on anime. I was the first Pokémon kid at my school so I was bullied for it, just one year after it was cool to like Pokémon but the damage was already delt. On the topic of girls watching anime, you gotta be a certified bad-ass to watch an anime. I never understood the quiet-shy type girl who watches anime, most girls who watch anime tend to grow up with male siblings who wouldn't shut up about this or that anime. There is nothing wrong doing anime reactions/reviews to boost views or to try to grab attention, I totally respect that. People do all kinds of things for attention, there is nothing wrong/fake about that. Babies cry to get some attention, so I'm never blaming anyone for attention, heck I'd do anime reactions/reviews for shit and giggles myself. Girl watching anime is a new and wonderful thing because anime are written by men at their late 40's or early 50's to appeal to teenage boys. That's the targeted audience, that's why most anime characters are often male and in their teenage age. We all watched anime because nothing else was on television and everyone had the same four or five channels, they were bound to watch it as well and in school we talked about it because you wanted to fit in or you'd miss the train. If anime was not on television, I'd never watch it. That's why I have never watched any Korean Drama because it was never on tv. After they were taken off the television or that anime channel was replaced, most people stopped watching it until team four star picked it up and we felt like 10 again ;)

On that, the Monogatari series is another one I can recommend. It's my #1 favorite and consists of a ton of little series (Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari, Nekomonogatari: Kuro, Nekomonogatari: Shiro, Kabukimonogatari, Hanamonogatari, Otorimonogatari, Onimonogatari, Koimonogatari). It is harem ecchi, however that kinda takes a back seat to the amount of supernatural paranormal stuff that goes on. I used to be good at describing it. Glad to see you speak up about this problem ( as i also have it) . In middle school i was this lonely weird and shy kid who has no friends. I was heavily into anime. Then I improved myself and socialised more and have some friends. I read mangas more than anime . Because when the anime was made based on a manga, the mangas art and stories are usually more interessting than the anime ( Yu Yu Hakusho is the only exception tho). Right now i pay little attention to anime and mangas , because the girls are always weirdly sexuallise (and i'm a guy) and the MCs often act like cowardly pussies. How the characters think and behave is so unreal it losts it's cool charm. Old mangas got its flaws too but it´s still better. I was so into anime and mangas and after saw the bad and negative side of it i hate it . I guess the saying '' Hate is the other side of love'' is true. Now i'm talking about anime like It`s an exGF :D lol.There are still some ''diamond in the rough'' in manga industry. Some are suprisingly good. I wish i could be a manga consultant. I liked this. Im not sure how old you are but I'm assuming you grew up around the same time I did. When anime was at its initial boom and kids would get bullied for liking it. I know I was. Especially being obsessed with Pokemon and Yugioh (I still am). But anime probably helped save me growing up. Keep up the story time. It gives your fans an idea of who you are as a person. Btw, I wouldn't date anyone that doesn't share any of my major interests.

Of course girls watched anime. But Dragon Ball do something weird with girls, all girls character share both progressism, and some sexists cliche sometimes: For exemple: Bulma is the nerd of the Z warrior, that's cool because in average anime, the intellectual nerd is a boy. But in the same time, Bulma act as a cliche distress princess with some bicthy attitude, but she can be extremely courageous and brave in many occasion. Chichi is the cliche of the rude and stubborn limit boring and crazy mother who think she know what people might do, but she is also a lovely and brave fighter. So both of these characters can be interpreted as progressive or cliche female character. Toriyama still a moderate comic pervert, and I forgive him.

yes. not all gundam stories are linked. see it like some sort of multiverse, when some are plainly independant from each other. some others series happened times after or before others. the main one is in the Universal Century timeline (uc). i can tell you a portion of the fanbase shit on everything that is not from UC. The stories have all some similarities and differences but usually the main thematique is war and the disasters born from it. Either it to be social or geopolitique or just human. yeahh i recommend it. i would have love to give you something to compare but i have nothing in mind. hm try gundam 00 to start(beware some people may be triggered at that very proposition).

It isn’t a anime because Avatar was created in America. The author is American and said he takes a lot of inspiration from western culture. A anime is any animated show from Japan specifically

No, anime is not exclusive a Japanese thing, the style is anime the country doesn't matter, look at 2 good show like take Avatar again and some other show made in America like Batman TAS, look at both and there you go, you can see the difference the way they are animated is different, because the style is different ,not just the author, Avatar is made in anime style so no, an anime is any animated show from Japan specifically never was the style is more important and Avatar have that, Japan have some show that I don't consider anime because the style isn't that, saying the anime is only for Japan is like saying that Harry Potter is just for little kid although everyone even their mother saw this movies.
