I think they meant the freezing them. Personally I think live feeding brine shrimp and daphnia is fine because it's very painless, but I'm sceptical that freezing is humane. "They don't have pain receptors" has been used to excuse mistreatment before. Just my opinion though, I'd rather put them live directly in the tank, although obviously live adults are probably too much for the fry.

@@Vivisheyislonger I've literally raised daphnia and brine shrimp for live feeding before, I'm not saying it's wrong (and I'm not vegan or vegetarian either, but power to anyone who is). I'm just saying I'm sceptical about the freezing. We used to think human babies don't feel pain after all, and we were wrong about that. The same logic is also applied to boiling lobsters alive for example, which I disagree with. I wouldn't be comfortable freezing them, I'd just pop them straight in the tank where they'll quickly be eaten. Just my 2c though. Just because prey animals being eaten is natural, doesn't mean we shouldn't try to prevent unnecessary suffering when dealing with pets.

I would say animal cruelty is generally prolonged suffering that Is unnecessary. Aka the practice of putting cows into a barn with no fencing so there all in one area can cruelty because it will often lead to disease and infection. Ironically a oceanland got shut down for doing this with deer to farm veal but didn't get in trouble for overcrowding dolphins because in Canada there's wasn't any laws at the time dictating how you were to treat water based mammals.
