I love the Toto thing. ;) To miss your homeland is totally normal, it would be so regardless where you'd go to live. Just a few remarks now. About the attitude of some older Poles - keep in mind that all those 50+ (or even 40+) have spent most of their lives in a country that was very different from today's Poland. Suffices to say that for some of them the meeting with you may have been their first one with a black person; hence all that surprise, asking why are you here not somewhere else, etc. About easy socialising in Africa, not taking life too seriously etc., I understand your point - I also like this African openness, joy of living, not worrying too much, etc. (I think we Poles could have more of those qualities). But, every coin has two sides, you know. I think the Polish seriousness, straightforwardness, respect for privacy, etc. have positive aspects, too. And, everything is relative. Just try to make fast friends with Scandinavians - you'll promptly miss the Polish warm openness. ;) About the lack of sun - sure, Poland's winter is gloomy. But, I recall a video by an African youtuber (Bolutife) who lives in Finland. She visited Warsaw one December. When she woke up in the morning at her hotel, she exclaimed: "Wow, it's 8 am and it's bright! So early!" 😄
