Someone has suggested that instead of self-esteem we focus more on self-acceptance. At any rate, I love Eckart finding the humor in our “having a relationship” with a mind-created entity rather than something that is real. I also like the idea of letting go of our self-obsession and instead humbly being present. Thanks, Eckart!

Self-esteem is just how positive or negative your own self-image is...which influences the narrative of the compulsive and repetitive self-reflective and self-centered thought. It is possible for self-image to shatter and hold no image of oneself. Then there is no self to have self-esteem...no self to feel good about (or bad about). Having no relationship with yourself...just being the Self.

Is it possible to have relationship with yourself? Mind made image of self is mind made movements. It's your thought image. It's story based self. Step back from thought. Let mind made image of self dissolve. What's left is the true I, the presence of being, I AM. Then you don't need self esteem anymore. Self esteem is an intermediary difficult to sustain. Once you drop it, you no longer have the self to love or hate. You just have being, which is love emanating. Thanks Eckhart. 🎡🥂🌈🎡🍁🎈🌎💎🦋🤩🤠🌈🥂🦋🤠🌈

If you still don’t understand what he’s saying, this might help: By being present in the moment and simply becoming the “Observer”, you detach from your ego. The “observer” is what you and I know as God, or unconditional love. It’s considered unconditional because observation without judgment is truly seeing someone and accepting them for who they are, and in turn, that person feels seen/heard/understood. And by the law of attraction (also the law of mirroring), you become the source of that which you need, which is love. In other words, by being unconditionally loving through the power of being in the present moment (being the observer) you become one with God and you feel whole/complete, and this feeling disintegrates the feeling of need. Therefore, everything shall be given to you. “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all of these things shall be added unto you.” The kingdom of God is that which is already in front of you. Presence = Just paying attention

"Self" esteem: which 'self'? Is this not what we are exploring? The key seems to be finding unconditioned love --period, which is to 'esteem' --to hold in high( enough) regard to lend compassion, kindness, friendliness to. To either or both my sense of 'small egoic self,' and/or greater Self --which is no self at all --aha!--and can only be esteemed or regarded highly by the local, physical, 3-dimensional self. I love this Stuffe --and appreciate you Eckhart, tremendously, and all those listening, asking these kinds of questions. I also found these quantum questions/Answers through periods of tremendous egoic suffering, suicidal depressions, many years ago... And moments of Grace, surrender portals to joyful Being. Blessings

The mad thing it that unless it burn through it like a total fool it will never happen. But my ‘little friend’ won’t leave me alone. So I sit in darkness and have the heating turned down in case I run out of money in 20 years when I am 80! Ha ha. It’s so draining to fight with myself everyday.

When I was a child I would hear from others, primarily older relatives, "You can do better." My young mind translated that to "Nothing I do is good enough." While it did inspire me to do better in everything I did it still wasn't "enough." it took years, decades, in fact, for me to realize that my worth had nothing to do with the views of others. Awkenings I have had prove otherwise.

If there’s no self, then you cannot know that what you’re feeling is “love”. A “nothing” has no feelings. You must have “self awareness” to know that you’re feeling this “love”.

Its hard for me to experience that separation from the storyline of ego because I am so entrenched in it. I identify too much with the doer and consequently I suffer everyday. I'm a scared, angry little boy even though I'm 41 years old. And really just started meditation, although I don't do it every day. But I feel like meditation will be a method that's going to help become more present not just during the moment of meditation, but hopefully the sense of presence will naturally flow into my everyday life. I'm hoping anyway. Still get extremely angry over small things. This rage is really scary, lol. It seems like it comes out of nowhere!

Dear Eckhart, what do you think of psychotherapy and such like? I come from a dysfunctional, alcoholic background and have been having psychotherapy for nearly 3 years. Also, I've recently been going to ACA meetings (Adult Children of Alcoholics). I love your videos and writing and it's occurred to me that, if I could only follow your advice by quietening the mind and the ego, I wouldn't need any of the other stuff 🤔 I'd be so interested in your reply. But if Eckhart can't answer, I'd also love to hear what others think about this question. Many thanks (PS I suppose there are degrees of everything; I don't consider myself mentally ill or unable to manage my life.) PPS I posted here because it's the latest video, not because my question has anything particularly to do with self-esteem.

Can relate to your question and journey, has been a process for me, since the age of 28 have been in therapy and found as I grew therapists changed too. It's ended now and found with the last one it felt very equal in that there wasn't a therapist and client, but more like a friendship even though it was professional at the same time.Have in between backwards and forewards written to my True Therapist That feels True And know no matter what I'm never alone, am not attending al-anon meetings at the moment but have found them to be helpful, am finding it is a journey and whatever works works. There is a time for everything, just trusting the journey now wherever I may be.

Self Esteem comes in handy when trying to mate. If the love object senses that you are at home with your self-worth and have genuine confidence, you are halfway to the conquest. Do we learn how to cherish and regard by being loved as a child? I think we do and I think it is a part of an evolutionary cycle.

My daily process of being in the present moment involves acknowledging thoughts that pop into my consciousness and allowing them to be and subside. These thoughts often relate to the image of myself that has been created in my mind. I can be plagued by negative thoughts, shame, guilt….all sorts of unpleasant thoughts. When this happens I refocus my attention on my presence and try to power through these moments. Is there some other technique I can employ to stay in presence? Am I right in thinking that this mind image of self will always exist?
