I do have this book as well and have made the cyclops and the minotaur. Loved them - even though I'm not good with felt, but they turned out so so cute.

I love that little mothman! I need to make one. Also, I honestly like that they didn't waste time, money, and page space creating yet another mid guide on how to crochet. I feel like in the modern day now most people will go online to learn how to crochet and very few will learn how to crochet from a pattern book. I feel like every book treating itself like an intro to the hobby is actually a bad thing a lot of the time!

You make an excellent point!! I definitely learned online, too, and once you have 1 book in your collection with tutorials, that's all you need! Thank you for pointing that out! 🧶🧡

I recently got this book, and I do love it! But I think the lack of progress pictures plus the lack of detailed assembly instruction, things can get a tad confusing. I made the dragon, and when it came to the wings, there were no back pictures of it and the instructions were just to attach them at the back. You really have to take the time to figure that part out on your own. But that is my only complaint with the book. I love the creatures I have made so far :)

Totally my fault for not fully reading.... I purchased this book and started Medusa and then realizing I need pipe cleaner. I did order some but I haven't gotten back to the project yet. I am looking at Greek men amigurumi so I can make Medusa a statue garden for her to live in.

I am curious if anyone has had an issue with the Nessie pattern. Specifically round 4 of the head. I could not get my head around how to get just 16 stitches with those instructions. I always ended up with 20 and ended up finally just skipping row 4 of the head. I have looked all over and cannot find any pattern errata for this book. This frustrates me because I figure it must be my fault.
@thesonnetsilence
@thesonnetsilence 10 күн бұрын
So I did look at the pattern and I think I see where there might be some confusion. The round should look like this: 4 sc, inc x 4 (so 4 consecutive increases) then you finish the round with 4 additional sc. I hope that clears it up a bit!

I was lucky enough to buy a copy of this that was spiral bound which made it easier to use. So far I've crocheted a centaur, krampus, manticore and 4 griffins and I do love how easy these patterns and how quickly I was able to create these amigurumi, especially the griffins since they were Christmas gifts for my D&D group. My only complaint and one I agree with you on is how some of the patterns incorporate felt pieces instead of having crochet pieces, but that's a personal preference. When it comes to how some of the patterns lack detail so they're too simple I tend to modify and add/remove details from my projects depending on what I envision for it so I sort of like the simplicity since it gives me a lot of freedom to customize them as I see fit, but I definitely do see how that is also a con for the book.

A spiral bound edition sounds awesome! How handy! Love to hear you are able to add your own spin and creativity to the pieces, that's amazing!! 🧡🧶🧡

If you love creepy creatures- you can check more about Slavic mythology. I’m from Ukraine and they are part of our culture and I even didn’t think about how cool it can be like amigurumi! I’m definitely going to make my very own Leshyi! Vodyanoi and Alconost in the line as well

I also have this book and I find it to be wonderful!! I made the purchase of this as my first book for making amigurumi and I didn't find it difficult to do the patterns. (I had reintroduced myself to crochet after 25 years of not picking up a needle and wanted to make toys. Prior to this I had not really made anything larger than a pot holder.) I even made a few small modifications to change out the felt for crocheted pieces. I have made about 14-16 of the patterns and they have all been donated at the VA Hospital. The first batch I made was actually gone thru before I ever got to donate them and the women raved over my box of goodies. The first one to leave the box was Medusa!! I recommend this book even for relatively new crocheters because it is a great tool for learning different shaping and sewing skills. If there are questions about a stitch or a concept, you can easily go online and find what you need, then keep right on working through the pattern. So great!!

I got this book because my kids love the book as much they love the characters. I've made at least 5 patterns. The thing i struggle with is the felt. I feel like a felt cutter is necessary to get it right.
