@Simon Curtis you just need a ticket to an onward country and no I didn't have it. It's the airline that checks it, not immigration. That's because it's the airline's responsibility to fly you home if immigration rejects you. If you're worried you can just Photoshop a ticket or buy a fully refundable one.

What part do people think he's being rude in? I'm about 2/3 in and I don't notice anything yet. If people mean because he is speaking without full sentences, it's to ease in understanding. Notice some people say they don't speak English well, so he's just trying to use the main relevant words to communicate. That doesn't seem rude to me.

Greetings from Indonesia mate. I feel sorry for you getting “ping-pong” like that trying to buy a simcard. Actually, in 3:15 you can just grab that simcard, paid for it, and ask them to registered it. I am not sure why they said it is not for tourist. Probably because they cannot speak good english and would like to avoid any further conversation, and just said “No, no, no”. Most people in Indonesia usually only say “Yes, yes, yes” or “No, no, no”, as if they are into the conversation. This is actually our intention to make a polDifferent with other country that straight forward says, “No english, no english”. Need to be careful on that, make sure you check if they understand what your question is.
