Now that I've finished year 1 of the PANRE-LA, what do I really think of this test? Do I wish I had just decided on the traditional PANRE? In this video, I'll discuss how much of a burden I think this test is, having to answer 25 questions EVERY quarter, for 2 to 3 years!
I also reveal effective strategies for efficiently using resources like the SmartyPANCE Searchable Blueprint, and provide valuable test-taking tips.

My thoughts on PANRE-LA: 1) 5 min is not enough to truly look up the right answer and there is a lot of guessing due to several answers that seem right (for some questions). 2) 2-3 years is too long for a test (PA school itself is shorter). Make it once a month and be done within a year. 3) There are many "tricky" questions. I don't understand the need for those for a recertification exam. We passed PANCE. Get rid of the tricky questions and make answers more obvious rather than having 2 correct answers with one being more correct. Thank you for your video and for trying to help your fellow PA's. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I pass.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I feel like I would learn more if I had more time to look up the answers to things I really don’t know. I can often find the answer in that time, but I don’t really have time to read why it’s the right answer and to think about it. I’m just so focused on quickly getting the right answer in that I feel I don’t learn very much. And honestly, once that question is done, whether right or wrong, my mind is already wanting to move onto the next question, so I don’t spend much time reading the explanation. I 100% agree about these “tricky“ questions. I don’t know what happened these last two quarters, but I felt the first quarters were so much more straightforward. They said this was supposed to be “every day, walking around knowledge“, But now the questions almost seem to be judgment calls from someone who works in a specialty. Even then, the answers seem a bit subjective. Not to mention the ones that have “ correct” answers that contradict sources. It is highly maddening! Still a little on the fence about the length of time for the test. I wouldn’t want a certain amount of questions be due each month, because I think that would be too easy to miss the due date. In order for it to be done in a year, that would require us to answer 50 questions every quarter. I guess that isn’t terrible, but that’s twice as many as we have to do in a quarter right now. Of course, it would be nice to be done in a year!
