In this guitar lesson video, I will break down the Arctic Monkeys' smash hit "Do I Wanna Know?" in it's entirety.
This Do I Wanna Know guitar lesson is a fun one because it is completely riff driven. There aren't any chords to deal with at all, just single note guitar riffs throughout.
I think "Do I Wanna Know?" is a great song to learn for the beginning guitarist because these single note riffs will help develop coordination and rhythm skills without the burden of playing chords.
The riffs are very repetitive but can be a little bit confusing since they are all pretty similar. So I think it is essential that you be very familiar with the original recording before attempting the learn the song on the guitar. If you do this, you ear will guide you through the riffs a lot easier, allowing you to focus on the music and not the numbers of the frets.
Pay especially close attention to the verse and chorus riffs. They are almost identical except for one very small part. That part can be easy to miss so I make sure that I cover it in the video lesson thoroughly.
All-in-all, this is a great riff driven guitar song that has a lot of interesting things about it. It certainly isn't your standard big rock song. However, the catchy riffs are pretty much singable after only a couple of listens and that says a lot about the song writing prowess of the Arctic Monkeys. Enjoy!
Carl...

Kaylee Hernandez put your thumb at the bottom Of the neck like your pinching the very bottom string. With your thumb placement you can reach so much more, as opposed to it being directly behind the neck or even worse on top of it like you’re strangling it.

If you have an overdrive channel, (there should be a button to switch from clean to overdrive) if not, then sorry. But if you do, put the gain around 6-7, treble around 9-10, Middle at 7-8, Bass at 5-6. And use the bridge pickup on your guitar. Hope this helped!

FrostAct What type of Amp do you own? If it only produces clean tones, I recommend picking up a Boss pedal. Distortion or Overdrive, this leans more towards Overdrive. If you’re bold, turning your amp up to its max volume can create this same sound.

3:47 Instead of pressing on the 5th fret on the A string TWICE, You can just play an open D string. It would go G ----------------------------- D --------0----------0------- A --1-3----3---------------- E -----------------------------(not for bass, just to show the last 4 strings since the B and high E wont be played.) And instead of playing the A string on 10, Just pay an open G string. Its the exact same sound as it, and easier to do. And, Sliding back and forth on 5, 6, 5 on the A string (cause it's just easier) G -----------------------------0----------------------------- D --------0----------0------------1------------------------ A --1-3----3----------------------------3h5/6\5--3-- E ------------------------------------------------------------

I'm a noob too, but maybe make sure you are pushing down on the strings hard enough. That could be the problem. I have limited knowledge and experience with guitar but I wanted to try and give some helpful info.
