Thanks man! Definitely trucked it home, the bike does not have enough range with that small tank to make it back on that section of AZ BDR and my wife and I had to fly to CO for a medical trip for her the next day… she would have been fairly upset if I got stranded in the middle of the desert 😂😂😂 so it wasn’t worth the risk. Yeah man, it all depends, I want to do better at the races so it takes a little of that focus away you know? If I didn’t care about results it would be totally awesome! Yeah for sure! So damn cool man hitting a section of BDR and then running the race! Loved it! The 500 is one damn capable bike. I have an ADV modded KLX 300 right now, I'm totally down for this once I have the right bike. Probably gonna be the 500, but also thinking about Beta 390. I'm in Phoenix, so I'd probably do an event a little closer than Page, lol. Since I don't care much about my race results, this is right up my alley. Thanks so much for sharing this brother!

Hi, i am just at the beginning of the vid and yet to see the rest. Just wanted to ask about the side bags in the Mosko setup. You are currently showing them with the rolltop straps connected to form a "handle" for each bag. And at the same time connect the straps on each saddle side to sort of hold it together type-of-thing. Actually tried to figure it out what is the reason for that myself for a while. Sorry for the long intro but just to let you know - I think that the saddle straps are meant to tie down each side of the sidebag strap. I tried it myself and found it is a much more efficient way to make it more compact and rigid luggage system as a whole. Please check RTW Paul's insta or KZbin for reference if my explanation lacks in clarity! Cheers and will keep on watching.

Genuine question here but how often do you need to check the valves on these bikes? Everything i look into seems to be between the 15-30 hour mark. That's the only thing making me consider compromising and getting a crf300L but man how much id prefer to be riding something like this aha
@SourceADV

Check them once in the first 5-10 hours, if they are going to move they would have done so then. After that every 100 hours is fine but your brain will say otherwise LOL. If it gets hard to start that’s a good indicator to check them.

@@SourceADV I’ve seen a few GasGas bike recently with electrical issues in particular the voltage reg shorting out and going up in smoke. This was caused by moisture on the diagnostic plug connector we think. As a precaution if yours has the new red diagnostic connector make sure it’s taped waterproof wise. 👍🏻

Thanks Robbo. But with this bike it is definitely isolated in that particular fuel pump assembly, I’m not sure exactly what yet, but the bike did go back to running perfectly when the tank was swapped that had a totally different fuel pump assembly in it. Am I missing something there you think?

My story is I'm 62 and only owned Japanese Bikes riding for 50 years always have a few dirt and street,but nothing from Japan is as light as the KTM in its class and gas gas and husky too and Beta are just lighter,I want six gears and torque down fairly low ,I want Brembo and a hydraulic clutch and Mostly not over 260 wet...The 500 has a motor I would expect to last longer as it has less compression and lower rim with longer stroke,The key to more power is the modern fueling control and these outrageous compression ratio and wide bore short strokers, on a dyno singles that rev high are not very linear sometimes worse than 2 cycle.
@SourceADV
@SourceADV 2 ай бұрын
An uncorked 350 (exc with Get Ecu/full exhaust OR XCF race bike) is the most linear and longest powerband bike I have ever ridden, BUT it needs to be ridden aggressively. It does not have slow speed off idle chug, the high compression makes it very prone to stalling without a lot of clutch in slow speed/low RPM scenarios. A stock 500 will stall a ton too, but once they are uncorked they will chug in low rpms shockingly well for a 4T, they just don’t rev out like the 350. The 450/500 KTM motor is bulletproof, have buddies with 400+ race/race practice hours on 450 XCF without a valve adjustment or top end, not advisable but they don’t torpedo. At 150 hours the 350 does not feel as crisp, definitely needs a top end. I am religious about Funnel web filters and oil/filter changes, definitely the stress on the motor is the factor. Cheers

Thanks man, glad you are liking it. At this point, no man! It's pretty dialed, just don't leave the exhuast shield on the muffler in a race scenario like I did hahha I ruined my favorite riding pants LOL -- GET ECU from Taco Moto is way better than the Vortex in my experience, the FMF 4.1 RCT with the quiet insert helps low end torque and the XCGear Mako360 is amazing for getting rid of the vibrations Suspension wise, I'm going to try out the Raven MXT fork inserts on my '23 350XCF race bike, and they are supposed to be a little closer to KYB SSS forks than the Lucky's I have on the 500 right now. I think the biggest thing I would do over and over for the PDS bikes is that MXTech National shock... It was such a game changer for the bike, it made it take whoops like a linkage bike. The stock rear shock is weak even with a revalve. My 500 is actually for sale if you want to see the full spec and the National shock is for sale, check it out: flagstaff.craigslist.org/mcy/d/flagstaff-2020-ktm-500-xcf-turn-key/7562922738.html

Great video Mark! did you have to change your forks and shock spring rate to compensate for the added weight of your large fuel tank and mosko bags?
@SourceADV
@SourceADV Жыл бұрын
Thanks man! I changed the fork and springs for my riding weight (200 LB in shorts) for single track riding initially when I set up the suspension. I did not change it any more for the adventure portion. It was definitely sagging a fair amount in the rear, but not enough for me to care for a one day adventure ride. If it was a permanent adventure bike, a new rear spring would probably be smart.

Very nice setup you have there. I’m curious as to the durability of the kickstand. Has it been modified? I note that you mounted the bike horse style which would place a fair amount of stress on the stock kickstand. KTM factory kickstands on the dirt focused models are very lite and quite flragile so I’m keen to know if you have found a solution to this as part of your adventure build. Nice work enjoyed the video!
@SourceADV

Good question, no that’s still the stock stand, but I try to right the bike a bit before I get on to get more weight on the tires. I ride trail exponentially more than I adv these days, so I’m not too worried about it for me. The Fastway billet kickstands are definitely far beefier than the stock stands though, hope that helps!

Nice one, good filming and spirited racing :) How do you like that Mosko R80 on the bike? it looks almost too big on such a bike... Is it floppy on bumby rides? You had a Mosko R40 but thats too small for camping?
@SourceADV
@SourceADV 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! The 80 is definitely big, no flopping though surprisingly!! I had to use the 80 because of all the things I needed to bring for the racing. I was more worried about the overall weight on the back of that bike. Believe it or not my favorite small luggage system is not the reckless 40, it’s actually the Tusk Excursion system. It held more items than the reckless 40 and was half the price. Reckless 40 and Tusk excursion are both big enough for camping but you better have a tiny kit, specifically a compressed sleeping bag, small sleeping pad and tiny stove. I run the Nemo Dragon 2P tent on the outside of the system because it has its own waterproof bag. Cheers!!

So, fuel pumps just fail and KTM hasn’t made a design to fix it? Is there an aftermarket solution? Just seems ridiculous for such an expensive machine.
@SourceADV
@SourceADV Жыл бұрын
They have. They completely redesigned the fuel pump system in the ‘23 race bikes and ‘24 enduro bikes. There is a good aftermarket fix too from TacoMoto, they make a much stronger pump and fuel filter that last up to 3000 hours.
@SourceADV

@kenwolfe5697

Well that’s good that KTM redesigned it. Too soon to tell if it’s actually reliable. $200 for an aftermarket solution isn’t bad but it also shouldn’t be needed on a bike that costs so much. But if that’s the bike you want I’m sure people will find a way to justify it.
