If you have a big Caravan awning you need to support it in the middle to stop damage.
Here's a vid on how to install one yourself. Super easy with only a few basic hand tools.

A top tip is to put a bit of hose on the drill bit as a depth guide. If you haven't got a piece of hose you can always wrap a bit of insulation tape around the drill bit to act as a depth guide. Never know what's behind that wall.

Me - would take 5 mins to install and 30 mins to clean up all the sikaflex on the van, my shirt and my fingers 😂

I do like your DYI videos. I followed your video on the curved rafters. I am no tradie so was happy with my efforts via your instructions. I reckon your right, the guys must of forgot your support bracket. Anyway it was good to see how they go on. I wouldn't of know they don't go hard against the awning, now I do. Hey Justin, Bunnings make a small rivet gun that fits into the battery drill, it’s about 100mm long, so easy to use and Bec could do it, no mussels needed😄

Well done mate a job you should not have had to do. Sika used it on all my builds, BIG tip you left out, the clean up especially black it has a way of going everywhere, use it well but carefully keep it back from the edges and the cleanup will be minimal, turps will sort out the rest.

Just a little tip. Don't silicone the bottom. Or leave a small gap. This way if water does get in, it can run out. Same principle applies to roofing iron.

Great job you just need a spring loaded (aka automatic) centre punch, the one handed operation would be good in that situation and it stops your drill bit 'walking' off the mark. 🙂

Hi mate thanks for your video, I asked my van guy to put one on and he wouldn't as I guess he didn't want to take the responsibility for a warranty claim if there was ever a problem. So now I am concered doing it myself, not because I can't as I am am 45 years + in engineering. Note our van is 19'6" and this is why the van guy said it doesn't need one well im not sure.

Just a quick tip don’t sikaflex the bottom so if any water or moisture gets in it can drain out and dry out Another flick the rivets and use nut inserts

Nice one mate. You can buy an attachment for your impact driver that will pop those rivets for you. About $30 at the Bunnings. Go Milwaukee. Team red.

I think yours would be ok hey. I think once th vans get around 20 foot or longer its a good idea for offroad vans

Any awning over 15ft long should ideally always be supported by a cradle due to the weight, it’s inexpensive and manufacturers should not find it hard to include as standard as part of a build so your not left having to DIY things like this. If you’ve found the comment to be trolly or think that by pointing out that, as the consumer, you deserve a piece of equipment that should really be fitted as standard OEM equipment and that’s viewed as giving our company a bad name? then we will apologize to anyone reading who we offended by suggesting you should get something as a standard fit.

Hey Sebastian, I think you are underestimating yourself. Picture framing requires cutting angles, clamping, measuring, putting in fasteners etc. This is just an extension of that. I reckon if you put your mind to it you could and it would save you a lot of money. Boats, caravans, campers, 4wds are black holes for money because the industry try to prey on us. Sorry not try, they do prey on us. Luckily I am a mechanic who can weld and do other things. T Spooner were you being mean?
