From what I can tell every step is optional but "DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE SCREWS"!!! 🤣 In a world filled with DIY that do everything from scratch is nice to see a DIY video where you show there are very good "out of the box" solutions to building something. Again, great video. It was so easy to follow and could be straight up an official building guide. 👍👍

So, how do you stop the rain flowing down the panels & into the base channels, then flowing back into the "drain-slots" & into the building, as the foam tape will have joints in it, plus the tape would really be to stop draughts...🤔

@JasonPorter8 ай бұрын
This was going to be my exact question... isn't the U channel just going to fill up with water during the first storm? Seems crazy to have that type of structure without any flashing or other detailing to keep water out of the bottom of the wall.

@123benley3 ай бұрын
I would of thought that would /should of been a PE pipe through the concrete base before it was set. Sticking up a couple of feet in once corner maybe left front corner a inch or two from the inner insulated wall PE pipe being A good few mm wider than your Armoured cabling your using then seal it around piping so that the plastic flooring cover so it won't ingress water under the flooring. Then once it's all fitted together the building dig out trench to home lay your armiund cabling push up through PE pipe cutting it a bought 1 foot above floor level then mount to the wall allow armored cabling to wire into a consumer unit micro switches bitl to the wall then use trunking to hide the cabling then foam fill the PE pipe stop any ingress then metal inner cabling tubing to protect the electrics ie protective trunking to each outlet including light fittings wall sockets. Or you could have a. Extra consumer unit in your home to control the power. If you don't want one in the outbuilding. Done by a proper electrical engineer engineer sparky. Or you could have it coming up on the outside of building and run in through the side wall I'm sure the sparky could give you there way of doing it if asked before building or after so you could make or adjust the options

well, there is a thermal bridge all around the window. There is a metal U which starts outside and ends inside. There will be condensation and it will freeze (inside) if there is cold enough outside. Maybe it works for UK weather, but if you have -10 or -20 C, this bridge has to be fixed somehow...

Built outside the property boundary! Roof overhang 300mm, slab laid to fence line. Doh!
@Phazaar7 ай бұрын
Slab isn't laid to the fence line, and the fence line is further from the property line; look closer. There's also a view where you can see as they're doing the mitres for the roof that the overhang most likely ends at the fence line. It's also worth saying that may not be the property boundary - it might be their own garage next door, and that their party wall agreement may permit overhangs (this is fairly common now as our roof structures often overhang from build stage in order to maximise the number of properties you can fit on a site.

Great video! However if that was going in my garden, l would want the fitters to put the DPM on the entire concrete floor before putting the building down for extra protection of the building base.
@homeimprovements6 ай бұрын
Thanks
@richieshaw19886 ай бұрын
Their installation is correct; reason being is: the concrete slab projects beyond the outer face of the external walls of the building, therefore if you place a DPM beneath it, rainwater that absorbs into the perimeter edges of the slab would be unable to dissipate into the ground and would instead be trapped on top of the DPM, thus meaning that the slab would be permanently sat in a pool of water. In the absence of a DPM below the slab, the concrete would need to be sulphate resisting.
