I know this video is old & you probably won't see this..but TY so much 💕 I had a roof leak that I repaired myself. And now I need to get rid of the mold it caused. You are so pleasant & voice so soothing. You aren't yelling at me or talking a mile a minute like everyone else. I can't afford to hire anyone so I have to do my own repairs. You just don't know how much you have helped me & my son.

Using the 7% hydrogen peroxide is a great tip. Just tips I would add is to put a high powered fan in the entrance exhausting spores and airborne fiberglass so they’re less likely to find their way into the living space. I would also shave my beard and wear a fitted full niosh 100 mask. Maybe even a tyvek suit. If not, I would have an area designated to change out of my clothes and bag them for washing so I don’t track black mold spores where ever I go. Booties for shoes are good too - they can be thrown away. Thanks for sharing!

The hydrogen peroxide is a lifting agent. It will react with anything organic, but the main reason is to lift micriobial growth out of the crack and pores. when you spray it in cracks if there is something in there it will react and push.

Hey Dan, not sure if you’re still using the spray bottle as this video is 2 years old, but if you are, I recommend getting a bottle that doesn’t allow light to pass thru it as light causes hydrogen peroxide to deteriorate. An opaque or dark tinted bottle would be best. I’ve got similar looking mold in my attic and I’m going to use a 6% solution like you recommended. If you have any further tips, I’d appreciate it. Thank you for the video. 👍🏼

The peroxide got me thinking about using industrial ozone to remediate and decon. Wondering since is so effective, why ozone isn't used other than being dangerous to be exposed to when treating? Ozone effect is essentially the radical oxygen that's reactive on the hydrogen peroxide. Any thoughts or experience?

Im starting to have some nasty side effects for now and I wore that kind of mask you are wearing for the 2 months of cleaning.That kind of mask didnt keep it from messing up my lungs. The 3m respirators were expensive and never fit right and just pulled my eye lids down. They need a chin strap on there design. But the gerson one step was way more comfortable and fit way better and was cheaper,Keep on keeping on man.

Does the hydrogen peroxide react on other surfaces or just wood?
@DanielTheMoldManSmith
@DanielTheMoldManSmith 6 жыл бұрын
brown55061 thanks for the question. In my experience, hydrogen peroxide works best when the temperature of the solution is similar to the temperature of the surface. I have used in on bare wood, painted surfaces and in my opinion bare wood appears to absorb it better which causes it to work better. Some painted surfaces may require light sanding so that the hydrogen peroxide can penetrate.

is it true you can clean off mold with vinegar? Seemed to work on my car that was in storage.
@DanielTheMoldManSmith
@DanielTheMoldManSmith 6 жыл бұрын
Understand that mold on a car is growing differently than mold on wood or drywall. The surfaces that mold grows on must be handled differently, so cleaning a car with vinegar and water may work in an effective manner. If it is a porous surface that has mold, then water and vinegar will not be, in our opinion, be the best choice. Molds can grow roots into porous surfaces, so cleaning those surfaces with a little scrubbing, making sure that surface is dry and stays dry will and should be the goal. We use Hydrogen Peroxide for the cleaning of mold on porous items such as wood joist, I frames and such.

C. Shabaiash I am not aware of that specific application, but there are many solutions to treat the wood. The truth is that wood is one of the food sources for mold to growth, what about the floating dust that lands on top of that treating wood? Yes it then too becomes a food source for mold and eventually it will eat right through the applied application and back onto the wood.

Lekeyshia Dennis-Hall the first process should be to ensure the water leak has been corrected, then HEPA vacuum the areas of concern, some light sanding may be required in heavy soiled areas, then spray the hydrogen peroxide on the areas. The hydrogen peroxide should be allowed to react for 3 to 7 minutes or until the foaming has dissipated. Wipe clean with a microfiber cloth and repeat the process until foaming does not occur.

White mold could be Aspergillus or Penicillium. Mold growing on surfaces are one thing but airborne spores will determine your reactions. These species are commonly found indoors and will normally cause allergy type symptoms. If you are or have not experience anything as of yet, count your blessings, I would still recommend air samples to be on the safe side. Also check you HVAC ducts for dust, they could have the same growth species

I don't care what others say here; mold isn't all that dangerous unless it is super highly concentrated -- so much so it stinks. I have run across that, it is like breathing in garbage smell. Yeah, that is bad, but this little bit of mold here is nothing, and you can surely clean it just like this guy is telling you. This is maintenance before there is any big problem. this is the way to keep things nice.

I had a home inspection done a week ago, the guy didn't even go into the crawlspace, he just peeked in and took photos for all I know. I actually got on my hands & knees and went in, just within the entrance. There was a layer of carpet pad that was mildly damp, like a sponge left on a kitchen counter.

What insulation rating to use?
@maxmanx1294
@maxmanx1294 11 ай бұрын
For what? The minimum required insulation depends on your location & where the insulation is going: attic, crawlspace, walls, etc.

Screw that, I’m. Hypersensitive to mold and do my own remediation. If that were my crawl space I’d remove the majority of the insulation due to contamination caused from removing the contaminated insulation than I’d paint the area with Zinnser anti microbial mold killer. As long as the water source has been dealt with your main objective is to stop any air flow to the remaining mold, if the mold isn’t getting air it can’t grow and it can’t circulate throughout the house. In certain small areas I’ve used gorilla tape before and never had a problem with that area again

bro, good air flow is used to prevent accumulation of moisture. Air is all around us and mold can easily use stale air to grow. But usually the movement of air causes an evaporative effect that will dehydrate and inhibit the growth of any molds. That's why they put fans in basements and crawlspaces. Mold spores are literally everywhere around you right now. They are on every continent of the planet. You can't avoid it circulating around your house because it is already there. It doesn't grow because it needs high moisture content and a food source.

@@desserteyes6978 Several things really. First you want to make the environment inhospitable to mold growth. The easiest thing to start with is lowering the humidity below a certain level. That can include a variety of things like a dehumidifier or a plastic covering if you have an exposed floor crawlspace. Fans help as well to increase airflow.

You do not want to mixed any solution with water to clean mold, water is one of the three elements that is essential for the growth of mold. Depending on the growth rate, species (need to have tested first) and coverage will determine what will be the best % to use. I do hope this helps.

Jennifer Rothman The misunderstanding of mold spores that most people fail to realize I'd that they need 3 elements to grow. In a crawlspace spore count are not a major concern because the air is unstable. Yes it is standard practice to create negative pressure in a crawlspace, but as professionals, you can also improvise your work environment. Trying to remove all mold spores from an isolated place will be a daunting task, but focus on drying out all wet material and removing surface and ingrained mold.
