Well done on finding the cause of that fault mate, can't have been easy seeing those IC joints in great detail. Thank goodness for DMM's aye :) It's always a great feeling when you can repair something, especially when you know for sure you've found the culprit as you did here. Cheers

***** Thank you. It took me a while to get there but I found it in the end!

Thanks for showing the disassembly. Where is the CR-2032 battery located? I don't see it on the board anywhere. I need to change it.

Hi, @DoItYourselfMusician, thank you for the in-depth video! Quite fascinating for a beginner like me. 🙂 Quick question: is this is a switch mode power supply (SMPS) in the DEP-5? Thanks!

very good video, thanks for this, I have a dep5 which on every power up shows Ld , what does that mean, if you happen to know?

Thanks for the nice video. Is there any mod available to lower noise floor?

All Rolands of this era should be checked for cracked soldering points,my sde 1000 acted up also and resoldering fixed it. Recapping might be a good idea also.

Yes, cracked solder joints on the surface mount parts in particular is a common problem.

My unit doesn't have the entire brown "timing board assy". Seems like it sometimes works, but sometimes there's almost no wet signal... :O :(. Could this be a battery?

Haven't used mine for several years . It turns on fine , but after a short while the display ( and power ?) fades out. I'm thinking about opening it up and using some compressed air to clean the insides but don't know if that will help . Any Ideas ?
@DoItYourselfMusician6 жыл бұрын
That could very well be an issue with the power supply capacitors. If you have an ESR meter you might test them out as well as check the voltages before and after the fault.

THANKS! I have the same issue, more or less, with my DEP-5. Though the BATTERY has not been changed for circa 15 x years! I believe it is supposed to be checked every 5 years or so?
@DoItYourselfMusician6 жыл бұрын
Yes it's not hard to check. You can just read it with a volt meter set to DC. It should read at least the rated voltage.
@monsterjazzlicks6 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much. I think I will book it in for a service anyway.

That was a very good job finding the problem. I just got and SDE3000 and no problem but the first day I started using it, I left the transformer for it (100-220V) connected it all day and got hot and the unit stopped working. Came back and then again stopped. Now I've been using it and when not in use just unplugged it. Do you know if that's normal? Thanks!!
@DoItYourselfMusician6 жыл бұрын
I'd carefully check the voltage output of your transformer to be sure it is putting out the proper voltage. Also make sure it is rated for enough current to run the SDE.

I don't see the battery in this. where is it located? what kind does it use? is it a varta style battery or soldered 2032 or (hopefully) user replaceable 2032? I am getting one from a friend soon and want to inspect / service it and i like to replace batteries when i'm in there. Just helpful to know what I'm going to find when I open it up
@DoItYourselfMusician5 жыл бұрын
It's a 2-pin CR2032 soldered in battery.
@8bitwidgets5 жыл бұрын
@@DoItYourselfMusician ok good to know. i'll open mine up and find it. i usually try to replace soldered batteries with 2032 user replaceable ones. i'm sure the one in there now is original or at least not been changed in a long time..

I wanted to ask you something about the FACTORY RESET please?
@DoItYourselfMusician6 жыл бұрын
When the unit is off hold down both sides (top and bottom) together of the MEMORY NUMBER BUTTON and switch the unit on. The display will show "Ld" for a second if you did it right. This will reset memory numbers 1-29 to the factory parameters. If you wish to reset 30-99 you will have to manually program them to the specs in the Example Settings Booklet.
@monsterjazzlicks6 жыл бұрын
That's great, hanks very much. The 'Ld' appeared!

Yeah no output.. can hear the effects in the background almost. Only just audible. input metre still works when I turn unit on.. Maybe the relats? not to sure
@DoItYourselfMusician8 жыл бұрын
Well it can get complicated real quick. You need to know how to test for signal at various points in the circuit and test for voltages etc. Basic trouble shooting procedures to find out where the signal is disappearing.

Mine when turned on the display show nothing and input level les just go up and down when turned on. That's all, no signs of input when something get connected in

Sorry to hear that. You would need to engage in some troubleshooting if you know how. No ideas off hand.

mine is showing no input level.. Damn.. any clues?
@DoItYourselfMusician8 жыл бұрын
So I'm guessing you have no output either? Could be a few things, input jacks might be dirty or broken. The level switch could also be dirty or broken as well as the input level control.

The only downside is if you lose the presets you have to reprogram them again. From the manual.

Sorry but it's impossible to fix something over messages. Check voltages, power supply and capacitors first.
