Fantastic video, and you know how to do one properly, showing the type of materials you use, and where you can get them, and what brand names they have. I have a burn mark in a nice kitchen countertop I'd like to fix. This gives me lots of ideas, and the last method with the wood filler looks easiest ? I also have some stain and scratch marks on some nice hardwood floors, and maybe you have a video on this as well. I'll have to check your videos. Again - great video. Do you have one on hardwood floors ? I know a lot of people use what they call "hard wax" but how durable is it ?? as it's just wax -- isn't it ?? or is it very hard when cured or dried ??

All of these products a flammable so please read instructions/warnings and use with suitable ventilation and caution. www.mohawk-finishing.com/products/wood-touch-up-repair/padding/rapid-pad-padding-finish/

@KitchensbySavina
@KitchensbySavina 29 күн бұрын
For the separation at the front edge I would do the following: 1. make sure you clean out between the two so that when you push or hold the top down to the front edge it close tight. 2. use some white or yellow carpenters glue squeezed in the between the two. 3. Either us a board held right at the edge and clamp to hold the glue till it dries or use masking tape in several spot and pull the tape to hold the pieces tightly together until dry. 4. Any excess glue can be scrapped off and cleaned up with water. As for the chips, use one of the methods shown in this video. I hope this guidance helps you.

@KitchensbySavina
@KitchensbySavina 2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I would use either seamfil or the hard wax stick products (Mohawk is the brand I use). Wood fillers do not have the coloring is surface resistance needed. You will need to use a waterproof finish over the wood filler if that is the direction you want to go in.
@user-hs3xh1od1k
@user-hs3xh1od1k Жыл бұрын
Hi - This is awesome! You did a beautiful job matching the colors. I'm confused what kind of wax filler you used. Looking at the Mohawk website, the "Fil-Stik" they now sell a "Fil-Stik putty" which requires no heat and is for low-traffic areas, so it seems different than the Fil-Stii you used. Do you think it would be durable enough for the top of a bull-nose edge 4" backsplash behind cooktop? Mohawk also has a Hard Fill wax stick that requires a burn-in knife and looks very different than what you used, and a Quick Fill Burn-In Stick that uses a "simple heat source" -- it looks like what you used but has a different name and label. I suspect this is the latest version of what you used. Can you confirm or clarify, please? Looking forward to trying this if I can get the same product you used. Thanks!

I use this product. You can use it without heat, but quite hard at low temp. I use a heat gun to make it flow easier. Friction will also heat it up. www.amazon.com/s?k=mohawk+fil+stik&crid=3HC2ABE1KS1WN&sprefix=mohawk+fil+stik%2Caps%2C76&ref=nb_sb_noss_1

The Hard Fil product I use on finished wood repairs. More difficult to use and not as many color choices. It can be translucent which is beneficial in a real wood product as it more perfect imitates that effect in nature. Plastic laminate are opaque, so that is not a concern; paint or putty work fine.

Colorfil is used for hairline cracks or small imperfections. It dries hard and is solvent based. It has a high percentage shrinkage factor. Hard waxes are easier to use, but not as durable.

Hi Teea, I just noticed this question. The burn is permament. You can try cleanser but likely will not work. I would use fine sand paper or equivalent to sand off the burned area after which you can color the area using some of the methods described. Nail posih is often useful as so many colors are available in small inexpensive quantities.

I absolutely do not think Bondo was the right call right next to the stove. Away would be totally fine but it’s next to a high heat source as your cookie tray so showed. Bondo is flammable and heat can cause the particles in it to expand and explode. The right filler is woodfill or something like a fill stick which is like clay that can be moulded. Both being listed as non flammable and less likely to cause a fire and definitely no explosions. If I were you, I’d sand it right on back down, fill it with the right material just so it meets safety and you don’t randomly have it explode your counter top and cabinet while baking.

That finale was not even close bud. No offense but omg.. oh nevermind you cleaned off that part you apilled or whatever. Hahaha i thought that was the repair. That was your color pallet for mixing paint on the counter. I see. It looks funny still. Just sand and bondo then prime and paint then epoxy them very thin and you will be much happier. Promise. Also if you have metal sink take it out when doing the countertops and sand with 600 grit lightly then 1000 grit medium heavy then buff it with a 2000 grit heavy with water and finally get into the liquid sanding and use a rubbing compound (3000) and then a polish (4000) for the beat finiah you can get on a metal sink. The two polishes sgould be applied with a drill attachment and it is a foam type buffing circle pad that is sold at auto stores or harbor freight or Amazon for like $10 bucks and comes with a few pieces. Use medium speed with 3k compound and then fast real quick then medium with 4k polish and then fast real quick with a once over but be thorough. You can then wipe it down with a big clean towel and you will be amazed. Use a good adhesive to glue in sink to countertop like a loctite construction adhesive but not too good because you may have to remove it eventually and you dont want to bend that sink if it is metal when removing it. I suggest either the lowest grade loctire adhesive waterbased with some elsticity or a liquid nails projects which is a water based lower grade construction adhesive. Even a decent caulking would work but if you dont have a lot of clamps on bottom of sink that attaches to countertop or the countertop is fiberous and swelling and coming apart just use a really good adhesive because otherwise you run the risk of it breaking apart more when the seal lets in water into the crack between sink and countertop and if you do that you will start a whirlwind of issues later on. Jusge it yourself and be careful.

Which is better? For a worktop tiny burn? Its not deep, just the top laminate has a burn and the laminate peeled off about 3mm and not deep. Colorfill or hard wax melted? I understand colorfill is supposed to be waterproof. What would be the difference compared to hard wax? Also, if a clear lacquer was used over it, would that be sufficient for it to be waterproof sealed?

@KitchensbySavina
@KitchensbySavina 2 жыл бұрын
Yes that can work (Mohawk fil Sticks ) is the brand I use . Be aware that the fill sticks are "hard" wax. If it is in an area that you use all the time it will wear off. For a more durable approach consider fill in with wood filler or bondo and color with some type of enamels (like nail polish or paint.) Seamfil brand is another option that is solvent base and hard. Several thin coats would be needed as it shrinks a lot when drying. Let me know how you make out with your repair.

Depending on the size of the area, consider this. Drill a hole or several about 1/16" diameter. Squeeze some super glue in and weight down flat. Use something heavy and flat with a piece of wax paper between so you don't glue the weight clamp to the counter. Either the super glue will fill the hole and just require minor clean up or you can fill any remaining void with one of the methods mentioned in the video. Let me know if you use this suggestion and how it works out. :)

My counter has an area by the kitchen sink. The seam seems to be overlapping the seam next to it. Like bubbled up. Is it possible to fix that

Can you paint the countertop after using these products?
@KitchensbySavina
@KitchensbySavina 3 жыл бұрын
Hi June. Generally yes. However not on the wax pencil products. The mohawk and Minwax waxes are hard waxes with a moderate melt point. Don't plan on paint sticking to that surface. If you plan on painting the best is epoxy, plastic (bondo) or wood filler, then paint. Thanks for you comment.

A piece of my counter is coming up around my kitchen sink. How do patch that without removing the sink. Looks like there's black rot under the vinyl
@GJvv2009
@GJvv2009 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Carrol. I would probably dig out the rot and fill with something like epoxy or something impervious to water. Once you have it close to smooth with the surrounding counter, use the techniques in my video to color to match. Feel free to send me a photo to KitchensbySavina@gmail.com for further input. :)

Using the same basic techniques, purchase a Seamfil kit and use the colors to fill in the seam. Just seach for Seamfil (kit) on Amazon or a similar search.

Hi Thanks for sharing. I have a sizable crack on a laminate countertop (bathroom sink) that's gone thru about 1/3 of particle board. Should I enforce with a straight aluminium bracket & glue (like a bow tie for table crack) screwed on either side of crack then fill in with epoxy? Thanks, hope You're still online

Hi. Yes, still around working every day. :) Without seeing the problem first hand I would suggest cleaning out the damaged are of any loose or wet material. When dry, fill with body filler or epoxy. When smooth to your satisfaction use appropriate colorants, whether enamel paint or nail polish, wax fillers or Seamfil. You can always reach out direct through KitchensBySavina.com Bye now.

I accidentally ran a screw from underneath through the top of a melamine table. What would you recommend to fix it ?
@KitchensbySavina
@KitchensbySavina 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mega. Back out the screw, clean out loose material. Get a couple of hard wax fill sticks and mix the whites until you are satisfied with the repair. You may also fill with wood putty and level, then use matching paint or nail polish to repair. Here is a link to Mohawk Fil Sticks. www.amazon.com/s?k=mohawk+fil+sticks&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

@@MegaBranigan Melamine is often referred to as low pressure laminate. There are many different products by that name. True melamine is a paper applied to a substrate which is then saturated with melamine resin. It has good wear characteristics but lacks the impact resistance of high pressure laminates. It should make no difference in your repair.
