I wish that people would stop being so judge-mental. Quite frankly If I were asked this question about my handbags I would be terribly offended. No one asks an older man, a plain guy, a nerdy guy with lots of money; “oh do you feel happier in life having a trophy wife?“ “does having a trophy wife make you happier?” I mean it is such a double standard. There is nothing wrong with prosperity, being proud, being proud of one’s success in life and wanting to enjoy the finer things. I love Louis Vuitton hand bags and yes, they make me very very happy. Not sure why anyone would be so nosy to ask such a thing ….

For me it’s been part of a journey of honoring myself. Two years ago I was very unwell and very overweight. I wore sweats and old T-shirts and didn’t care about myself. Part of my journey to weight loss and health was a renewed interest in fashion and in how I look. I have always LOVED bags, but as a single mother of 4 it was something I couldn’t consider. Today I can consider it. They make me happy because they are a gift from me to me. And a reminder that I am worth it.

Yes, I've had a similar journey. Stressed mum, very overweight and burnout, no self-esteem. So in July last year I reached rock bottom and decided to start nurturing myself and as I lost weight, gained fitness, worked on my mind and spirit healing, I started scraping together my money to buy things that celebrated my being. So I started buying clothes and skincare and going to the hairdresser. I don't own any luxury handbags but I would if I could afford it one day. I'm loving myself nowadays.

Growing up poor, and being bullied for it and then achieving a 6 figure income as an adult I can say that luxury items along with things like a stress-free comfortable life and a healthy family indeed do make me happy. The bags are the icing or the bow on everything else.

I don’t think luxury items can MAKE us happy but they can definitely CONTRIBUTE to our level of happiness. Does it make me happier to carry a luxury bag vs a nonluxury bag? Yes, definitely. Is that the only thing in life? No. But I think the level of shame others feel toward people who buy luxury handbags vs luxury cars or other items is crazy. Mind your own business!

They actually make me happy. The unboxing and then if it is everything I thought it would be - having them displayed in my closet every time I walk in. Glancing over at them in my passenger seat. Styling them and seeing them in the mirror…..They are small shots of happiness in a day but they actually make me consistently happy every time. I don’t get them to impress others but because of my appreciation of their quality and beauty….actually I feel uncomfortable when others notice or comment so I don’t buy them to impress others but for my own selfish satisfaction….I also enjoy the collector aspect of it….it’s definitely become a hobby …

I remember buying my first LV speedy bag when I was 17, after months of saving. I was judged immensely by my peers but it made me feel happy. I’m 35 now and still own the bag and have accumulated a decent collection over the years. I will eventually pass on my handbags to my daughter to enjoy.

For me, i feel so different and confident when i wear my designer bags. Even my Bvlgari bag, most ppl wouldn't even know that bag is a luxury brand but its so incredibly beautiful and different, people come up to me and ask me about the bag. When i wear my ysl or my LV bags, i always get oh i love your bag. They just make me feel put together and i get excited picking out my bag for the day. Traveling makes me the happiest, absolutely gets my heart beating fast but the lux bags just are an everyday pleasure.

I remember growing up and having an eye for the finer things and being told I would never be able to afford it by family members. That lit the fire in me. I remember having enough money to buy my first nice Coach bag. That was a milestone for me. Then it was Tory Burch. That was the next milestone. Finally I made it to LV and YSL. That was a huge financial milestone for me. I felt like with what I had, house, car, luxury items etc. that I finally made it to a point I was always told I wouldn’t make it to. Does it make me happy? Yes! In the moment. But my true happiness comes from my faith and my family. I get shamed a lot from family about my luxury items. But it’s whatever for me because it’s what I enjoy so their opinion is just that, their opinion. I feel like for me, it’s proof that I made it and I’m successful. Now I buy a bag when I get a promotion or raise etc. It’s like you said, it’s my trophy 🏆 for my personal successes in my journey. My next milestone that I’m working on is Chanel.

Yes, my designer handbags make me happy! I could never afford them in my younger days but now as I am more settled at 40 I love having the freedom to purchase what I want and work hard for ❤️ we should NEVER feel any shame for that ... I actually admire women who take care of themselves and treat themselves with the nicer things in life ... we should celebrate each other for being able to achieve such success ... whether it's in the form of a promotion or a new handbag. WOMEN are more powerful when we encourage and support each other always ❤️ So go out there and buy that Chanel or LV if it makes you happy because you're a boss babe!

I have a very similar story as you. As a 12 year old my aunt who loved fashion gave me a Louis Vuitton book with all their latest collections inside and I saw the speedy 30 in monogram and the multicoloured speedy and I became obsessed it was my dream to own one LV bag, then when I was 20 my mum and I decided to go into LV for the first time just for a look. My family didn't have money. We met this lovely SA who was from France and he showed me the speedy 30 and 25 and told me stories about LV, then one year later for my 21st birthday my mum surprised me with my very own speedy 30 which was gifted to me by the same SA. It's a memory I will always cherish. After uni I started to save up and continue buying luxury bags. I have a small collection and plan to only have 10 bags and never get more than 10, I will sell a bag if I want to buy another. It's so rewarding to save up for months and finally buy a bag. I hate how people are judged for loving and buying luxury fashion. People love cars, people love tattoos, travelling, beauty and spa treatments or doing house renovations. Everyone has their expensive hobby they love and I would never judge how others spend their money. As long as they can afford food, safety and rent then let people buy nice things for themselves.

I am nowhere in the realm of buying Chanel or LV level luxury, but I do like buying lower-end luxury bags to commemorate an achievement, and attaching it to that particular accomplishment does actually give me a lot of happiness because it's not just about the object itself, but exactly as you said, I can look at it and remember the progress that it represents. Also, I feel like there's a secondary benefit of buying anything expensive in that way simply because forcing yourself to wait until you've done something worth celebrating in order to get it ensures that you absolutely, definitely want whatever you're getting. My most recent celebration purchase was a silver metallic Proenza Schouler PS1 that I got an insanely good deal on, and I will literally just put it on my desk so I can look at it because I have genuinely loved the style and design of it for so long.

Sorry for my english, but you get what I mean. Love your videos and content 😊🤗

Kris, you should buy the brooch and wear it proudly! I completely get the anxiety towards how people might treat you, but you're here to live your life and do things that make you happy - if the people around you aren't happy for you, that's a sign of their lack mindset not yours.

This is so appropriately timed for me! I grew up poor and have done very well as an adult; hence, I just made my first luxury bag (YSL) purchase and it’s still sitting in the box, because I keep thinking WHY? My Tory Burch bag does the job and I could buy 6 of those for what I just spent. Decisions, decisions. ❤️ Edit: I’m so glad I watched this! My “reward” has always been vehicles, but now I work from home and don’t drive as much…my YSL bag it is!! ❤️

I have loved purses since I was a child in the 60s. I remember picking out my first little navy shoulder bag. I had a suede fringed hippie bag around 68, 69. We all loved the tooled hard leather flap bags in the early 70s. My first official paycheck at age 16 was spent on a beautiful leather hobo bag that cost 99. That was a lot of money for a 16 year old in 1976. I used that bag for a good 5 years or more. I love handbags and at 60, love and enjoy using my high end bags. They do make me happy.

I grew up extremely poor, but I had a scholarship to an elite private school and was always aware of how poor I was (I had one pair of shoes to last me the entire year, for example). I had to fund myself through college (always had multiple jobs), and money for me was such a struggle in those days. Fast forward to today, and my husband and I do pretty well for ourselves and I am able to indulge in a little luxury from time to time. Luxury to me means that my hard work finally paid off, and I have always admired beautiful, well-crafted things, so seeing these things bring a little joy to my day. It's a means of self-expression as well, and it shows I care about and value myself as someone who deserves to have nice things. The strange thing is sometimes I do get self-conscious about wearing my items, which makes me wonder if it's less about what other people think and more about how I view myself if that makes sense.

They make me happy when they arrive i the mail or when I purchase them in the store. It's a quick fix. The novelty of the new bag wears off in about a week. However, when I go into my closet and prepare my clothes for the next work day...I feel good when I take out the new bag and fill it. But does it solve life's problems? No. Does it cure sickness? No. It feels just as good when I buy a new Halloween decoration for $12.00:)

Hello Steeeph!!! 😍 I totally relate to every single word you said! Luxury purchases do make me happy as well. Sometimes people waste their money on smoking, drinking, restaurants, make up, travelling... etc, and I think that we all sin differently. Once I was talking with a friend and she asked me why am I that interested in buying such expensive things and that by now I would have bought a house with this money. I felt a little bit offended and asked her, "oh so do you own a house right now?" and she said no. So I told her "there you go, you spent your money on something else too" 😂 Anyway, enjoy your bags you have an amazing collection 😍❤️🥰

I felt the SAME as you when I walked by a LV in Msui, Hawaii. I remember thinking how expensive the bags were... but I STILL REALLY WANTED THEM..lol. I really didn't think I'd be able to have what I do now.. feel very fortunate. You made great points. I've always believed that presenting yourself in the best way you can (even if just running errands) is important. I don't want to give up and look sloppy in life. I suppose owning designer items helps a bit with that. & yes! It's not like you're thinking about the piece when not using it.. this was so well done! XoXo 😘

I remember vividly i was at a concert and I saw a young lady carrying a speedy 25. I was too shy to ask but there stated my search for this bag. I knew nothing about LV. Then i was watching a makeup video on KZbin literally 8 years later and finally I learned what this bag was and how much it was. At the time I drove a top of the line BMW so I could afford the bag but I was just fine with Michael kors and coach. Until I decided to go to LV store and purchased my very first speedy and it all went down hill from there. I have a speedy in every size and it makes me happy because I really enjoy the shape of this bag not because I want to impress anyone. Now I have lv’s and no BMW because we needed a mini van for the family. Moral of the story. Buy what makes you happy and what is worth to you even if is not worth to others

Yes. Luxury purchases do make me happy. To me it’s not just a bag or a shawl or a belt or a pair of sunglasses- it’s a way for me to express myself and be creative. Fashion is a form of art, it’s a creative expression even though people love to portray it as something superficial. I could buy a cheaper bag, but then I’d have to change it after every 3 months, and given that I’m blessed to be able afford something more luxurious once in a while, I prefer to save up and buy a bag that is high quality, durable, something I can pull out ten years from now and it won’t look worn out or dated. That’s just my personal preference, and to me it makes more financial sense in the long run. Sure, I don’t need more than one or two bags, but technically you don’t need more than 7 outfits- yet most of us will have at least ten times as many in our closets. I fully appreciate that there are people who struggle to make ends meet, and at certain times in my life, I have been one of those people. I get it. And I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel guilty now and then when I buy something expensive, particularly when I think about how life changing that amount of money could be for someone else. But this concept can be applied to everything- why do we eat out at nice restaurants when that amount of money could feed a family for weeks? Why do we go on expensive holidays when that amount of money could get a family off the streets? These are valid questions, and there is no right or wrong answer because we live in a messed up world. My problem is that nobody asks these questions of people who buy big houses, nice cars, go on fancy holidays or eat out a lot. Yet, they see a woman with a fancy handbag, accessories or jewellery and they suddenly want to judge and shame. There is definitely a lot of prejudice and misogyny associated with this way of thinking whereby people single out women’s fashion choices for the whole “that money could change the world argument”. Personally I ask this of everyone: earn an honest living, work hard for your money, PAY YOUR TAXES, always remember to give back and donate to charities and causes close to your heart, never turn away someone who comes to you for help, and save up for a rainy day. And if after all that, you are blessed enough to be able to buy a designer bag, buy it without guilt and enjoy it. But be thankful and never take your privilege for granted.

I am sorry for your loss. That is so incredibly hard. I did something similar with some money my grandmother left me. She was like a mother to me and she loved bags with pockets. She never would have splurged on a CC bag for herself but I can imagine her seeing me with my classic flap now and smiling at that secret pocket for love letters and the little pocket on the back. It’s like bringing a piece of this beloved woman with me to places when I carry that bag. Perhaps many people wouldn’t understand why a bag is a reasonable purchase with inheritance money but for me it really has continued to feel just right.

dont know where my last comment went - basically, i'm a modest buyer but have recently dropped £3k on Louis bags, pre-owned and new a shawl and 3 gucci scarves, so quite a few items for the spend. i've been thinking "would that 3k be better in my pension ?" It's a bit late now, lol! my total spend of "luxury" is around £7,000 and that includes mulberry (all new), LV SLGs/bags/acessories. i'm embarrassed to say, i want SOME nice things, not everything i own is expensive (really old car and husband declined work Tesla/ XC90, overpaying mortgage by £100s each month, so delaying bathrooms being re-done etc), so yes, it is about perception. Hate admitting that, but yes, social currency/income indicators. what a fresh and honest video - thank you.x

Wow! this is a very honest talk. A lot of luxury lovers don’t like to admit that “status” is a big motivator for buying luxury items. I think there is a little bit of that in it. It is interesting that you said that you aspired to buying luxury items. I really never aspired to buying nice things, but I do buy them because as a brown, Hispanic woman in the US I get treated better at stores or by society in general if I wear those things, which is kind of sad. Americans love their logos😅. In Mexico, I was always treated well without having to wear logos. Anyway… I have a few luxury bags that I really like and use a lot, but I got used to them😂. Now, they make me just as happy as my other non luxury bags😊! Weird!

Yes - it was a very real chat! haha I find it all very fascinating. Thanks for sharing - I get that non luxury can make you happy too, especially after having some luxury pieces. Thank you for sharing

I cannot agree more! I am a different variety of brown and experience exactly what you mentioned! Sadly, I feel like we have to make up for the shade of our skin color here in Southern California.

Yes! I'm a second generation Mexican-American and I feel that we still have to validate ourselves and make us feel "respected" by proving we too could purchase luxury. When I go on vacation to Mexico I get treated great without and name brand logos. But to me I remind myself that my grandmother moved here to make sure we made it in life. And that my father is proud that I'm at a point in life where I can comfortably drop a few gs on a bag without going broke. Same as he's proud of my brother that he can buy luxury vehicles. We definitely start oir luxury journey to prove that we made it in this country. But pure happiness from a designer bag? Nah, it's the feeling of accomplishment that allowed us to buy the bag.

Yes! Very happy. So do a lot of other things I buy in my life like a 60p chocolate bar😂 I think some people just want to steal your joy. Don’t let them. This is a fab video and I love your honesty. Keep enjoying your collection 🤗

I think it’s made me happy I enjoy picking a different bag to use every day but I also agree working and saving hard to get it is a big part of it. If I could just afford to buy a new bag Whenever I wanted I wouldn’t appreciate the bag as much as I do, I don’t come from money either so getting a new bag is still a huge deal for me 🤍

Yes! Especially when they’re given to me by family members means more to me than buying it myself. The happiness does wear off but when I bring the bag out and I see it, it makes me happy again. Like painting a pic. Leave it for awhile and come back to it and it looks great again. But I don’t do so well when others make negative comments about luxury. At that point I may hide my luxury and not use it around certain acquaintances who judge.

Always been drawn to good quality and excellent design. There is an element of not wanting too much ‘fast fashion’ in my life - I rather want a few items that will last for years than many that won’t. That’s what motivates me and if the item that I have on my wish list ticks all the boxes then I may put my hard earned cash into that. It is my decision and there are other things I don’t buy or spend on to get that item that I would really love. But I do much more “window shopping” than actual purchases - there is a limit. However when I do make a decision to purchase that special bag then it does give me joy - and even when I look at these items I enjoy them too. I don’t think they make me happier though I find design and some luxury mixed in if it is good design (not all of it is) - and of course if the quality and price doesn’t match then I won’t buy it just because it is from a luxury brand. Anyway, interesting video, thanks so much 💕

Yes, I didn't mention this but I also really agree with it. I'd much rather save and go without lots of less 'special' purchases to have just one, very special one. Better for the environment 🙌

I have one designer bag. I really can’t afford them but I was very lucky to get an Alexander McQueen for my 50th birthday. I don’t think there is anything wrong with aspiring to own beautiful things, especially if you are buying them for yourself. My bag makes me feel more polished on a night out and I do love wearing it. I wouldn’t say it makes me happy but it would more if I’d earned it for myself. It’s the sense of achievement that it would give me. I’d love a YSL all black Lou Lou. I do also love just looking at them on this channel.

Mostly yes. I try to be judicious about my purchases. Only two items have I sold w/o ever using which is two too many. I do have a rodeo I bought just because it was available at the boutique. Can't resell it w/o barely breaking even so I hold on to it.

What brings us joy is very individualized. For example, my brother thinks luxury handbags are a joke. He eats out for lunch every day spending probably $12USD. Eating out 5 days a week, 4 weeks a month, 12 months a year equals $2,880. Significantly less than my YSL Loulou!! A burger doesn't give me nearly as much joy as my handbags! But to him, he rather have the burger. To each their own!

It is not the most important thing ofc if you loose your health you would sell all bags or burn them just to get your helth back. But since i am working hard and making my own money while also helping my family and diferent organisation for poor people, if feel sometimes i can buy smth expensive for myself. It somehow makes me proud and happy to show to world while working hard (in foreign country) i deserve it.
