American citizens 18 years of age or older should be able to vote. When you start saying people should have to pass a test to vote and things of that nature, abuse is inevitable. Take literacy tests that were given to black people during Jim Crow. Really, look one up.

The bigger problem in the world right now is less that people are ignorant or stupid, but more the confidence and conviction that people will shout about things for which they know very little or even nothing about. Trump is the epitome of that. Social media has helped foster that behavior. Jimmie, watching this as a South African makes me really sad. Back in the 1960s, whether in parts of Asia, Africa, or South America, many people voted for the 'big man'- not because they understood policy or governance, but simply out of blind loyalty to a charismatic leader. The leader 'himself' could not lead the newly 'decolonized' state and government. Today, much of the Global South has moved beyond this mindset, learning to demand more from their leaders. Yet, it feels like the United States is returning to its own period of pure 'barbarism' - with many voters (video below) showing unwavering loyalty to a figure like Trump, often without understanding or even caring about policy. It's as if the lessons the South learned are being ignored in the North.
