@@jbird4478 here in the states, at one of my local walmarts there is an aisle that is all generic women's shampoo products, another half an aisle for "ethnic" women's products, and a couple of places next to the men's deodorant for men's specialty hair care products. There is so much product for women there is no room to put the limited mens products in the same aisle.

perfume, deodorant, personal grooming products, hair care products, the sort of stuff men don't care about as much as women do, so they're just not willing to pay as much, and companies will charge as much as customers are willing to pay. they didn't include a single product that comes in different versions for men and women and that's related to something that men are generally more interested in than women.

If you want a more comprehensive test, New York made the anti gender price discrimination legislation thing after a very comprehensive report (2015) comparing: 794 products across 5 Industries 24 Stores 91 Brands 35 Product Categories They compared the products that were closest in branding, ingredients, appearance, textile, construction, and/or marketing to be as fair as possible. The study concludes that 42% of the time women pay more, compared to men's 18%. And that on average women end up paying 7% more. Another study (1994) by the state of California concluded that on average women spend $1,351 more annually for the essentially the same products and services. And to quote from the NYC study: "Though there may be legitimate drivers behind some portion of the price discrepancies unearthed in this study, these higher prices are mostly unavoidable for women. Individual consumers do not have control over the textiles or ingredients used in the products marketed to them and must make purchasing choices based only on what is available in the marketplace. As such, choices made by manufacturers and retailers result in a greater financial burden for female consumers than for male consumers."

@ianbelletti6241
@ianbelletti6241 8 жыл бұрын
This all comes down to supply and demand, perceived value, and cost of overhead. Where the products are essentially the same, perceived value tends to take over. Supply and demand is another factor. If women are willing to pay higher prices than men, then companies will target same products to men and women with different prices. The way to solve this difference is to know it is there and vote with your money. It's how you spend your money that tells these manufacturers what you are demanding for the prices of equivalent products. As far as some things go, women's haircuts tend to be more complex than men. If she is just getting a simple trim to even the ends and remove split ends, then of course it should be the same price. If it goes beyond that, then it should be expected to be more expensive. Women's and men's haircuts are examples of similar services that are very different when it comes to the overhead costs of the service.

@@kiruschka123 Difference in R&D cost is pennies too? Womens razors for example are shaped differently, with different blades, because they're used for different things. Men use them to shave their face, womens razors need to be ergonomic to reach the back of their legs
@kiruschka123
@kiruschka123 5 жыл бұрын
@@dustinjames1268 Depends on the razor brand. Cheap brands have usually just another color. Middle tier and high tier brands have a bit kind of different design but so what? The manufacturing cost, if even comes so far, could differentiate in pennies too. Hell knows what kind of razor cost actually more to manufacture it. I really doubt that they put much more money into the product development in so that they can justify the much higher cost. Their razors looked like 10 years ago (in sense of functionality). "Men use them to shave their face, women's razors need to be ergonomic to reach the back of their legs" Men's face is practically the same as a women's body. You have the same curves and edges on your face as on your body. The only thing you need to do is to modify the grip for a better hold (which can unisex) and the plastic stuff around the actual razors so women (or men) don't cut themselves why shaving in areas where they can't see and just go by feeling. (And this is why the razor is a bit less outstanding). However, we don't know what cost more actually and what is harder to develop - but this would be irrelevant if a razor costs 2 cents more (per razor) to manufacture it and 3 cents more (per razor) to develop it.

Hey CBC News, what about "Ladies Night" at the clubs? They get half off cover charge or even free pass. Or at the auto shops. Women normally get charged more for services and spare parts under the notion that they know less about technical stuff. Why go after retailers for answers about price disparity between difference products? Those were different products no matter how similar you claimed they were. Furthermore, retailers generally priced their merchandise as differently as the manufacturers sold them. Therefore you should waylay the manufacturers instead. Not surprising why so many dislike. You were barking up the wrong tree. Oh. goodnight btw.

Perfume and Cologne will always be different prices becauss Cologne is "Eau de Toilette" which is basically water while most high end perfumes are "Eau de Parfum" which is a lot higher concentration. You can get female perfumes that are "Toilette" and its considerably cheaper than the "Parfums". Also, when it comes to shampoo and stuff, you have to look at the ingredients because that makes a huge difference in price. And hair cuts? cmonn.. female hair cuts are nothing like male cuts, getting your hair cut and styled for over an hour VS getting a buzzer and buzzing a guys head for 20 min shouldnt cost the same.

hi!! i personally am a curly girl and i know some curly girls who have a hair routine that costs $80. incredible. just $80 worth of product. but really, when you think about it, of COURSE getting a devacurl haircut is gonna cost so much more than a haircut for a male. the difference is all the product and resources going into long, luscious curly hair and how a man's short hair will take a 20 min buzz at most lol. not to mention that we have to buy more expensive shampoo and conditioner... but that's because it needs to be sulfate and silicone free. not everyone has to worry about that - especially not guys with generic hair. i'm 100% willing to buy all these hair products because it makes me feel confident and that's all that really matters. not to mention that with the kid's toys, of course licensing cinderella is gonna be more expensive than some random character that no one's heard of. this comparison was completely unfair. not even gonna talk about it. toiletries are DEFINITELY going to be different prices. if i'm gonna buy razors from the men's aisle to shave my legs, then i can kiss my skin goodbye. it's gonna HURT. the women's products are higher quality. higher quality = higher cost. all of these are dumb complaints from the noisy left... their arguments aren't exactly fair either. women's rights are a much bigger issue in middle eastern countries - i should know, i'm from one of them. if only the left wing could be noisy where they needed to be heard. lol.

the reason for the price difference is women are WILLING to pay more for products than men, who are more tight fisted with there money. Basically. the price difference is a direct result of the different spending habits of men and women. if you believe in the free market, you can't do anything about it. If you believe in equality or fairness, there is only so far you should reasonably go. because sometimes there is a genuine cost of production difference. (but not always) and knowing when not to enforce a law is just as important as knowing when to enforce it.

woman pay more money for products because they are designed differently and uses different amounts of ingredients, it isn't sexism it's products. if a female version uses more of an ingredient than men's it should cost more. also studies shows women are more likely to pay more because they feel better about the higher price and services are more expensive for women because of the larger variable in styles, women's hair is generally longer than men's and even the shorter haircuts require more work because of layering and feathering, dry cleaning as well makes sense because 99% of men's shirts have the exact same style and can be pressed using a machine which requires very little work, while women's shirts have a wide variety of styles that require the dry cleaners to hand press the shirt thus taking time away from other things, more work equals more money

There are factors. Womens products have a whole multitude of competetors. Therefore a company has to market, advertise and study demographics to beat their competitors to assume the sale from women. Where as mens there isn't as many competitors so your sale is assumed due to lack of product. They manufactor more for men because of sheer fact theyre one of the only companies putting a product on the shelf. Where as women have a selection so their product has to stand out. The demand also isn't as high so the cost of manufactoring is higher because there is no point having thousands of expiring dyes, gels or cosmetics just so you can manufacture it at the same cost as the male version. Also look at mens aisles vs womens aisles. There is a huge size difference. Companies pay for their space on the shelf. If they have to drum out more womens products. Then guess what? It is going to cost more. Shop smart. Most of these products you can buy at Dollarama for way way less than retail box giants. Use coupons. Buy them in surplus during their 'off seasons' (dyes always go up in the summer as does deodarant). I never have paid more than $1 for name brand deodarant or $2 for name brand shampoo or conditioner.

The price of a product has nothing to do with "what's inside", it's all about how much is the targeted consumer willing to pay for it. Using your logic, a bottle of water should be priced the same in Niagara Falls and in the middle of the Sahara Desert. Does that make sense?

I see no reason to pay more. I consider myself to be a bargain shopper. I buy the best deals at the best price. At Walmart last August I bought Lady Speed stick for $3.22 for a 2 pack. I'm still using the first container in December 2018. I think that paying more for something simply because I'm a woman is a ripoff! We need to become better shoppers and stand up for our rights! I think it is the demand that increases/decreases the prices you're getting. In clothing, Men generally pay more than women because the demand for men's clothes are pretty high. Every mall you walk into, there're more women's shops and there are a ton of clothes for women to wear, too much in fact in my opinion. So the demand is low, and maybe that's why prices change between men and women.

As a cosmetic manufacturer, I can see how misleading this is. Walmart hardly has control on how much the retail price is. Usually it is the manufacturer who guides them to how much they must set the retail price is. Retailers get a % of profit called goodwill, the manufacturer must be the one who propose the retail pricing. Other issues includes, marketing cost, product cost, packaging cost, volume of order, etc. - Bigger/more successful brands tends to be more expensive due to marketing costs, especially the brand ambassador fee - these are more focused on women - so yes, it's no wonder women product are more expensive. You cant compare a women's shampoo to a men's shampoo due to the different capital investments.

This is from a male perspective in a female household. Women like to get higher quality product and that higher quality product is often a higher price! You can put both quartz and diamond on a ring, but the diamond is higher quality so you would pay more for it! The quartz ring is still there, usable, and cheaper but the small details of the diamond and the obviously higher value of it would make it preferred to those that enjoy quality. The quartz ring would work, but it wouldn't be as awesome as a diamond one. Hence, cheaper but still on shelves because it does it's job alright! You wouldn't trust a diamond if it was priced like quartz. You would go for the higher priced one if you wanted a better result! That is why women's product often cost more! Ingredient and quality. NOT sexism.

+Blue Moon It's not that they are 'acknowledging' it, it's that they with bias, attribute it to 'sexism' against women. Not even looking into other factors such as ingredients going into the products between the Men's and Women's version, that women are just more willing to pay for certain items more than men, omitting when men do pay higher (car and life insurance, bars and clubs, etc.).

If you are gonna compare this then compare the unit price, don't blame the retailer for installing a markup, they have to mark up every product to make a profit. If Gillette is selling WalMart a female razor for more than a male razor, it is going to cost more in the end. Another bad example, the Cinderella toy vs the generic boys toy... it is a licensed product it will cost more.

the whole concept of men's and women's anything is sexist. and that marketing is much of the reason why we as a society feel certain things are men or women only.

Kaylee Teagan actually, many things are labeled ‘men’ or ‘women’ based on the fact that the different genders generally gravitate towards different things. If you search it on google you will find lots of studies. I agree that it shouldn’t be only one gender and that everyone should be allowed to use everything, but you have to understand how we got here

Women have more gel on their razors Shampoo women's adds volume not the guys And women's deodorant has more scents Guys don't look for more gel on razors More volume or no frizz shampoo Or overly scented shampoos (Also most of the products for women was made by women)

no they dont lol. show me 1 product in that video that was EXACTLY THE SAME, as its counterpart, fact for u, u cant, every women product has more ingredients, and more research and development behind it, aka time is money, therefore women pay more, its that fking simple. so no, women arent paying more for the same product, all these products are different

bla bla bla puppy that is because pink makes it a more desirable item and that drives up the price. its all about supply and demand. if something makes it more desirable and drives up demand for the product then the price goes up with it. the basic fact is if you don't want to pay more for pink then don't buy it, if you still find yourself arguing or arring about it then that proves my point.

Men's deodorant is scented like chemicals. Women's deodorant smells like flowers.
