Definition of a race: two sailboats on the same course! Ahhh, what a relief it always is to see your overtaking competitor is “motorsailing”!

Ha! Definitely, either I’m winning the race or it doesn’t exist lol

As usual a great video. I'm an old salt of close to 80, but still racing my trimaran on Lake Huron and the North Channel of Canada. Am enjoying your 'sail life' very much. The ups and downs of owning a boat. Also I am amazed at your calmness after the 'chafing' incident, I think I would have lost it lol. If I may offer a hint :) when taping over rips and holes in a sail cut the corners round. That will make 'snagging' the repair tape less likely. Fair winds and keep enjoying life :)

Thank you so much this is a really nice comment. Im so glad you’re enjoying the videos. Awesome that you’re out racing that sounds like really good fun. I think I was so surprised and in shock about the whole incident that I didn’t really not what to feel lol. Thanks for the tip, and always comment if I’m doing something wrong/there’s a better way to do it, as I really need to learn!

@@nestorandhisboat Good Day Nestor :) Thanks for your reply. Hope you are enjoying the new 26 ! My first sailboat was very similar to yours..a Sandpiper 565 originally designed and built in the UK and later in Canada. My 16 year old son used to take it out with friends. It had a drop keel which made beaching on sand simple. Also had a Nauticat36 Catamaran which has been downgraded to a 22ft Catalina seeing I built a beaut log house on my bay shore. We also have several trimaran. The Windrider17 is the most fun boat I have ever sailed. Our version is the non-foiled boat. Here is a friend in the USA with his Foil Windrider "Rave" his top speed is about 30-35kn kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHLXm5p-jaZ_ha8 ours top out at about 20-25. and we are located on Manitoulin Island in Lake Huron. The worlds largest fresh water island and considered to be one of the best sailing areas on the globe. and I can actually sail from here and end up in the Atlantic :) Keep posting. you are doing a great job. Cheers

Really good video all round. You are a pretty handy individual to do all that work on the sails and the outboard. Keep up the good work. Look forward to future videos. James.

sails look great ,its cheap sailing carefree and way more fun than any alternative ,just wondering what type of boat those new sails come off,some of the older 18 ft boats had huge foresails and smaller mains with only one reef point on the main
@nestorandhisboat Жыл бұрын
Well it actually came off another H18 in theory, as you can see by the H18 logo on it. But yes the main is definitely smaller and the foresail is bigger which I think is the way it was supposed to be for Hurley 18s because mine previously had a severe amount of weather helm
@theresnobodyhere5778 Жыл бұрын
@@nestorandhisboat probably someone wanting more speed thought putting bigger mainsail would work better ,it,s your full length keel that holds it back in lighter winds the 18 footers lightweight fin drop keels will be faster in light wind your boat is a heavy boat and safer in comparison, but then when wind gets up to a point the lighter fin keels have to reef and roll in foresails and de-power, that's when you have the advantage over them with the full keel

About time for a vlog is it not? What are your plans? I know you said you had sold the Hurley but now what? Do you plan to buy another boat or what about crewing for someone? Bryan
@nestorandhisboat7 ай бұрын
New video up now! Sorry for delay you are right it is long overdue. I have been crewing on other boats, taking part in the Hamble warm-up series. My dad has now bought a Sadler 26 so most of my sailing is on that. I need to finish school and then I plan to buy another boat, maybe a Hurley 22 and then I plan to sail around the UK!

Get rid of that metal swivel on the jib clew, it'll have your eye out! abowline on the end of the sheet will be fine.

Wet cabbage! Ha ha ha! Two reef points on main, not too bad.
@nestorandhisboat Жыл бұрын
Well that is true but my boat has boom furling so I have unlimited reefing point! In truth it’s quite a bad system as it requires heading up on deck and winding very slowly with a handle that is waiting to fall over board.
@olivei2484 Жыл бұрын
@@nestorandhisboat I crew on a boat with boom furling like you have, reallly dont like it because one looses the kicker (vang) in order to furl.
@paulkorte7843 Жыл бұрын
I have boom furling on my boat (contessa 32 which I sail single handed) and I quite like it; easy furling the sail when going into port, and reefing is a doddle, although a bit wet as it has to be done at the mast. Nice videos by the way, keep up the good work!@@nestorandhisboat

Can you afford to get a sailmaker to have a look at your sails and rig that's your next job. My jib ripped out along a seam while running before a force 7 in the middle of the night. Took it to a sailmaker the next day and he looked at it with disdain commenting that it was a dinghy sail because it only had two rows of stitching instead of three. I notice yours only has two also.
@nestorandhisboat7 ай бұрын
This could be true… but she is a small boat and her sails are dinghy size. Unfortunately I have passed her on now, but I will tell the new owner! Thanks!

The friends’ parents aren’t quite comfortable enough with me as captain unless my dad is there…yet! And no run ins with police, there aren’t many laws regarding sailboats
