The answer to the question above of brother "Dillon Leaf" : Coptic Orthodox Christian church is one of the oldest churches and was established by saint mark the apostle, he was the one that wrote the gospel of mark, he travelled to Egypt at about 60 AD and established the church at Alexandria and became our first pope, he was martyred by the Roman authority because of spreading the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, after that, every pope came till now was named by the city of Alexandria as this is the first place saint mark established the church. in 325 AD, The First Council of Nicaea which was a council of Christian bishops convened in the Bithynian city of Nicaea by the Roman Emperor Constantine I established primarily to confirm that our Lord Jesus Christ is the god and equal and one with the father and the holy spirit (the holy trinity) as sadly 😞 priest Arius back then claimed that Jesus Christ(the son) is not equal to the father and by that he is a demi-god😥 the reason I tell you this is that sadly after this council held by a decade, due to political influence and events almost every church all over the world became of Arius thinking, but the only one stood against him our church through pope Athanasius of Alexandria and he was exiled 5 times defending the true faith let his prayers be with us. in 451 Ad Council of Chalcedon called by Emperor Marcian, we as Coptic church along with other Oriental Orthodox Churches refused that council which was held for actually a political reason as the Roman church wanted to get out of Alexandria church as it was the leading church in the world at that time, that is said because as Oriental Orthodox Churches we believe that our Lord Jesus Christ is of one nature from two nature and that what we had received from the early fathers but Catholics believe our lord of two nature and this belief might risk Nestorianism (Catholics are not Nestorians) which taught that our Lord Jesus Christ was sometimes human and sometimes god. other differences are: 1- Catholics believe what is called 'Immaculate Conception' that saint Mary the mother of our Lord was conceived without sin, Coptic orthodox church don't believe that as every human being is a sinner and that God only is holy and without sin. 2- Catholics believes what is called 'Papal infallibility' that there pope concerning faith and moral teachings can't be wrong, Coptic orthodox church believes that everyone included the pope is under the weakness of being a human being, 3-Catholics belives what is called "Purgatory" which means in brief that uncompleted repentance will be continued afterlife for a period of time then people with that state will go to heaven, Coptic orthodox church believes that repentance is only on earth and one should live a holy life through repenting continually and with the help of our Lord Jesus Christ and God the Father and the holy spirit, holy trinity in one god Amen. of course I encourage you to search more about all those events and propositions feel free to contact me if you like or contact your nearest Coptic church, I guess now there is a Coptic church in every state, and I'm sorry for this too long reply but I wanted to give you a complete overview. everyone read this reply pray for me, please 🙏
