I am 27, living with my mother and disabled younger sister. Now the reason why I am, is because as much as I’d love to get uncomfortable and make it on my own, I grew up in a household without a father, and without family nearby to act as a support system or a church that would act like a family, I’m all they’ve got as support. That’s another facet of why some men haven’t moved out, because where we live is also ridiculously expensive. I worked in the moving industry, so I know how expensive it is just to move to another state. If y’all touched on things like this, to expand the horizon of circumstances, I think you’ll reach more men like myself.

As someone who grew up in a hyper contemporary nondenom churches (my mom was on the 'worship team' at my first church and my second one was a megachurch where they played secular music before the service to 'set the mood') I share your aversion to them. What contemporary nondenoms are missing is reverence for God. Church is not a party. It is where we gather to remember the sacrifice God made for us and to offer him our humble submission. As a protestant myself, I also have an aversion to Ecclesialism except that there are many valid and earnest believers within the Catholic and Orthodox church. What they lack is doctrinal humility. What I mean by that is that they believe they are correct and everyone else is wrong (which is true for most of us) but for them it can be a source of pride or distain for others. This is not unique to them however, I see this commonly in my own reformed tradition and frankly I see a shade of it in this video. But I find 'dude bro' Christianity to be concerning as well. Biblical masculinity is a far cry from the 'soy boys' on one side just as it is from the 'Tate sphere' on the other. True Biblical Christianity is that God created us, male and female, to do good, flee from evil, and above all being the chief end of man, to glorify Him. We must acknowledge there are vices and virtues common between and specific to men and women. Because of this, masculinity and femininity are biblical subjects but the Bible is much more concerned with what is shared than with what is distinct. I think basing a whole movement around stereotypical masculinity and slapping Christianity onto it is a bad idea. If we want to see what a Godly man looks like we should look to good examples. Of course Christ is the key figure, but as for prominent figures today I would say Voddie Bachaum, Cliffe and Stuart Knechtle, and Micheal Knowles. All of them are firm yet considerate, confident yet humble, forgiving yet also discerning. Biblical masculinity requires that we are not given into the extremes of our desires but that we act on them in accordance with reason. I ask that maybe you settle down a little. Passion and zeal are good but need the right direction. Vulgarity has no place in the life of a Christian and agression is to be reigned in and used with great caution.
@billcynic181521 күн бұрын
I certainly agree with the aversion to irreverent nondenom services, and the "dude bro" Christianity. As someone Orthodox, I sometimes see it among Orthodox, though mostly those who spend too much time online, not really with the priests or monks or typical parishioners with families. I sympathize: in a culture that shames and tears down masculinity, that is a natural reaction, especially when given a space where masculinity is celebrated. But the Church celebrates both masculinity and femininity, and has a place for both. I would caution against your concern of lacking "doctrinal humility." It is the same accusation Hindus who criticize Christians make, for thinking only the Trinity is God, Jesus is the only God that walked on earth, and that Christianity is the only path to life, while they would extend that courtesy beyond those narrow confines. The truth is that asserting the truth of your doctrines is inevitable unless you want to go full relativist. Even Hindus are happy to say Jesus is (a) god, and then we get Red Letter Christians, progressive Christians, Biblical Unitarians, Mormons, etc. As I see it, the question is where you draw the line, not whether the line should be drawn. If you think we are wrong for believing everyone else is wrong in our doctrines, you think you are right and we are wrong. I have seen Reformed people who think everyone who is not Reformed is wrong (and probably damned), and honestly I respect it even though they are wrong. While it may lead to pride, I don't see it as an inherently more prideful claim than saying Jesus is God, and it takes seriously the claims that the Reformed tradition makes. I would just say those claims are wrong.
@moustacheman713021 күн бұрын
@@billcynic1815 Maybe I should have explained what I mean by 'doctrinal humility' I have Baptist friends who say that Lutherans 'dont have the gospel' because they baptize babies. Ive heard Catholics say that protestants 'dont have the sacred tradition'. Ive heard an IFB preacher say 'Calvinists think God is stupid'. We need to be united in the essentials and gracious in the nonessentials. I can believe in the truth of predestination without elevating it to a requirement of salvation. While I believe everyone is wrong about different things, no one including myself has a perfect theology or knowledge of God, I can uphold the sincerity of their faith and the validity of their salvation. Spiritual pride is by no means unique to the Catholics or Orthodox. I see it in the Baptist, Reformed, Pentecostal, and nondenom traditions as well. Its something that anyone can be susceptible to.

I think that traditional evangelical churches have only failed in Europe and the US because much of this is cultural and the luxuries that rich countries can afford. People are more concerned with material things than with building a good relationship, community life, marriage and children. I don't know how churches work in Europe, but in the church I attend we have a good culture of forming couples and most remain virgins until marriage. Since people in Europe and the US just want to have fun, they end up being promiscuous and forming short and low-quality relationships.

Hi friend. I appreciate the message but do not appreciate the misplaced hate against Christ's church. The Catholic church specifically states this: Sometimes the Church is accused of teaching “salvation by works,” but this is an empty accusation. This idea has been consistently condemned by the Church. Good works are required by God because he requires obedience to his commands (Mt 6:1-21, 1 Cor 3:8, 13-15) and promises to reward us with eternal life if we obey (Mt 25:34-40, Rom 2:6-7, Gal 6:6-10, Jas 1:12). But even our obedience is impossible without God’s grace; even our good works are God’s gift (Rom 5:5, Phil 2:13). This is the real biblical plan of salvation. The accusation of 'works-based' salvation present in the Catholic church is truly baseless. Do not call yourself an evangelical, for you are a Protestant to Christ's church, who was founded and has been maintained through apostolic succession as proven in the scriptures: 'even the gates of hell shall not prevail against it' (Matthew 16:18). I respect your Protestantism, as you believe in Christ, but do not weaponize your channel against Catholicism, for these views are heretical and truly damaging.

I love what you do David. However did you say that catholodism and orthodoxy is dead tradition??? The church doctrine is not works based and has been the trusting authority of tradition and biblical teachings. The doctrine is much more important than you seen to understand. The church can be corrupt, yes but you can not say that the church is heretical either. One should find Jesus, guided by the holy spirit then find a church.

It is works based. Look harder. How is needing to keep sacraments to maintain your salvation NOT works based bro? That isn’t the gospel. We work because we are saved not because we need to to maintain right standing with God. Read Roman’s 4:5 as an example. God bless bro 🙏

We should be bold when it comes to preaching the gospel and obviously doing it in love, but we have to speak the truth. The problem is that we have pastors and evangelists watering down the gospel because they want butts in seat. That is dangerous in the body of Christ, and we have to be careful about who we allow to have access to your ear gates and who we listen to. The Bible said study to show yourself approve, seek your own salvation for yourself," and that is how you build your relationship with God. I'm glad that this is being talked about, I know it's uncomfortable for most people, but it's part of the Christian walk 🙌🏽🙏🏽✝️

What are your thoughts on this?

You didn’t ask me but I will give you my take. Haha. I think your plan is fine. Better yet stay with your parents till you’re 21-22 and almost pay for the house completely. As long as your helping your parents around the house cleaning, laundry, dishes, mowing the lawn whatever and not just sitting around when your home. I think it’s ok to live with them a while and save up. Maybe help them with a little with the electric bill also. If someone is with there parents and not doing anything to help out that’s when it starts to be a problem.

Appreciate what your trying to do, but the hardline anti-Catholicism is what lost me on you. James 2:14-17 (ESV) Faith without works is dead. I was raised RC, broke away then came back to what I call an "Ecumenical Catholic". There is absolutely nothing wrong with tradition as long as it's biblically rooted & yes, I do call out certain things that aren't Christ-centered i.e. Marianism & overly devoted to the saints that cross the line to worship. One example is I pray the Rosary, but I replace the Hail Mary with the simple Jesus Prayer. My prayer intentions are stated before I start the Rosary. It's a good way to zero myself in & make sure I maintain discipline. There is power in repetition & tradition as long as the intent is true & centered on Christ himself. Yes, we all have our differences & I appreciate you wanting to gear things to be more masculine, but put more passion on trying to unify the Body of Christ instead of trashing what still works.

What denomination do you follow? ... The Bible 😂 I have lost track of the conversations where i have danced around this without the words, definitely stealing this. On another more important note, is that being saved to good works is throughout the Bible in slightly different ways, and its very important. God is solving 2 problems!!!! First our sin debt that separates us from God and now paid for by Christ for those who are in Him. In todays environment, we all get this one. Second, our love for sin rather than God ... To list a few references for this concept off the top of my head ~Greatest commandment to love God completely-> also think about Romans road and one of the primary lessons of Israel's continual failure ~John 3:18 -> loving the darkness rather than the light ~ Romans 3:10-13 "all have fallen short" (and the multiple locations in the OT that Paul is referencing here) ~Lot's wife looking back -> FOMO that reveals the heart ~Jesus's words in Luke 9:62 “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God", ~Salt analogy -> mankind created with a nature and purpose that requires the love of God but no longer has it and -> "lost it's saltines" ~ similarly, "light within you" teachings. Read/check with the concept that the "light" is something along the lines of what we love, what we are pursuing, or what our Internal GPS is (default is the "flesh" alone) ~new creation & new heart & heart of stone vs flesh analogies. These are just a few that i picked up on, check me! God (and God alone, We cannot help here, trust/faith!, we do have our own responsibilities but it isn't here!) is solving the symptoms (sin debt & death) and the root cause (that we don't love God!). This is how Jesus fulfills the law without abolishing it! "I will put my law within them and I will write it on their hearts" Jer 31:33. Those who truly love God need no law (freedom in Christ!) because the law is simply a restraint for the sinful nature (a guardian if you will). Consequently, it logically follows that keeping the letter of the law is of no value to those who have already broken it and shown themselves to be law breakers (not loving God) for no amount of not murdering people will change that fact... Neither is it valid... I'm technically up to like 8+ billion people not murdered... Am i not merciful? Anyway, I'm done. Yall can have my soapbox. Just check me, I'm one flawed man typing out my thoughts on a tiny screen... Search the scriptures for yourselves and see if this is true, or skewed.

I forgot to add something important here, but not going to edit the original comment. I have a strong hunch and fear that this is why the American Church is so weak. We want the first, forgiveness of sins and escape from bad consequences, without the second, holiness from God... This is certainly true of my own testimony. I walked in failure and did not experience the power of the Spirit of God until I acknowledged my FOMO for sin, that I didn't actually want righteousness enough to decide for it when pitted against all that I was getting out of my pet sins... There was always another excuse. It wasn't until I was brought to my knees with this conviction, then mourned and repented of it, asked for the help that only God can give & that he promised, with the stated understanding that I wanted it regardless of where it would lead (boring, prudish, single forever, etc.), and then "white knuckled" trusting that God would make it the heart change that makes the outward change stick. Since then I have experienced assurance and joy of salvation, the difficulty and joy of progressively being sanctified into actually attaining an increasing measure of righteousness that is a natural expression of the heart (the overflow) rather than a burden or simple appearance. It is the strangest thing, yet also a bit lonely in this spiritually listless American Church. And that brings me to my fear... Was I saved before that point? I don't know ... What about all these people in church buildings who look just the same as I once was? What about my family members in which this is the case? I don't know, and I can't directly convince them since I couldn't directly convince myself before I was graciously broken by God. All I can do is seek to draw closer to God that I might shine with the light of His holiness, the light of those who see and are in the presence of God (ref Moses and his shining face), and pray for His mercy. Does He save those who only want His forgiveness without Him (and the "cost"/gift of holiness)? Do we have FOMO (fear of missing out), or do we genuinely and increasingly "count it all gain?"

All I ask is for backed up statements not just lip service bashing other believers. It's crazy to me how much is protestants so quickly condemn billions of orthodox and Catholics to Hell. I refuse.
