Anime has tought me that a katana will remain in it's sheath until your thumb dramatically clicks it out an inch or so.

You know the algorithm is worthless when it's recommending a video that says "swords can cut you!" and "swords can fall out of their sheaths" over Shad's video here which has actually useful information!

I like the addition of classical music in the background. It blends in and makes the whole video just a little bit more enjoyable. It doesnt distract like most other kinds of music.

Personally I feel like classical music over a quick cut info on swords has a weird dichotomy to it. Not quite distracting, but unusual. I’m fine with no music. But, I get wanting to have something in the background too, as I assume many other people get bored with only voice. To each their own

And if you actually do want "wall hanger", then you do want stainless steel, due to easy maintenance (rust resistance).

If you’re buying a sentient sword given the directive to “destroy evil,” it’s important to ALWAYS keep it in its sheath. If you test the sword and it slips even a millimeter out of its protective sheath before consuming your very soul… you get what you paid for.

If the Saya let's go of the katana easily, one thing you could try is to apply a coat of clear nailpolish on the inside of the mouth of the Saya and let it dry for 24h. It should grip the blade better that way. Repeatable when it's not working anymore.

Katanas were displayed how they were worn so longer katanas were displayed edge down because that's how they were worn, but shorter katanas were displayed edge up. This was because larger katanas were used on horseback and it was easier to pull it out with the edge facing down due to the curve. Also, larger katanas were lethal because they were heavier and didn't need to be as sharp so their edge and weight did a lot of of the heavy lifting when it came to taking down an opponent, even if they were armored. Shorter sores were used more for cutting than Cleaving. So they needed to be much sharper and because they were so sharp, the blade need to be facing up as to not damage the saya and as to not dull the edge.

The stainless comment deserves the caveat that some people have made very expensive swords using ultra high end tough stainless steels like CPM 3V. Whether this is a good idea and worth doing is up for debate, but with modern metallurgy it's possible to have a stainless sword that isn't a crap wall-hanger.

Displaying them "Edge down" makes me think of how if you hang a horseshoe you are supposed to hang it so the points are up. This is, supposedly, so that it catches and holds the luck, if you hang it with the points down, the luck all spills out and is lost.

Years ago, I bought a katana for... I think it was $80. And the reason I did that was because I was in a liquidation store, and they just happened to have a few of those katanas on hand. I know the katana is not great quality, and the price of the one I got was driven even lower because it has several defects. It's nice as a decoration, and I've been able to use it as a prop. To that end, I'm happy with it. But yes. Someday, if I feel like getting a more useable sword, I will keep in mind advice like this.

I picked up a Ronan katana from their scratch and dent sale for around 150 regularly 250. It is a spring steel sword and the only scratches or dents I could find were on the sheath the tail cap thingy did loosen up rather quickly, but that was the only problem I have found with it. With light testing nothing came loose.

Alright so this is from Minikatana who focus mostly on marketing and advertising rather than selling quality swords. I have 7 of their swords so I can attest to the quality. I think their goal is to just to introduce people to anime and swords and I’m all for it. Even if their swords aren’t the best quality.

I think their goal is to sell swords and make money. It is okay to target the low end of the market, but people should be aware of that is what it is. Especially with swords, cheap ones can be dangerous.
@TheSteam02

@@H20NoThey're cheap in quality, but not in price. You can find all of their anime swords on other website like Romance of Men or Hanbon forge, but made with better steel, better quality, and lower prices. Why tf would anyone pay $200 for a 1045 sword that has a high chance of being shipped with warps?

Since you like Honshu stuff, I'd like to see you test their katana/wakizashi and see if they are any good. I've got one, but it's sitting in storage and I haven't had the opportunity to test it (not to mention, mine is a special version and I'd rather not damage it). Fair warning, it does have the tactical grip rather than the traditional one.

I'm not planning on buying a katana, and I don't like being yelled at and bossed what to do. I know this engagement still help the channel, and that is fine because I love the content, but yet I feel mistreated by the title. I've been appreciating the content and beating the algorithm into submission and making sure I see most every Shadiversity video, and now the title is disrespectful toward that in order that the algorithm be appeased. I won't leave another comment, I'll just skip videos that prioritize the algorithm over basic respectfulness. I'm aware that the social engineering agenda of KZbin makes it difficult to do numbers without disrespecting the audience. I do give some slack, but I watch plenty of excellent channels, and this is the first time one of them has required me to offer THIS much slack. I also had to skip a recent Metatron video, though obviously Raphaello didn't take it this far; he is Raphaello after all. I don't mean negativity here, just feedback, though I do see that it is negative feedback. If you lose me as a viewer, I won't have any hard feelings. Cheers.

I have a Paul Chen katana (maybe 10 years old now?) and it is pretty snug. Except once :-), when it did slid out, for some reason. And I had the reflex to stop it with my thumb. On the blade (which was upside). Got a very-very deep cut (to the bone). And I still have the scar to prove it. So even if I know not to try to stop a failing katana, that is not the reflex :-)
