I had a high quality polycarbonate travel case with a high quality zipper system, the material bent after several times of squeezing (to close the full case) also the zipper made problems over time.... That's why I switched to an aluminum trolley, much more robust, looks much more elegant and just feels more qualitative. The scratches that exist over time are part of the patina and show you the story of a frequent traveler, it does not bother me at all...

If you are looking for something more affordable but high quality buy a Samsonite suitcase. I have had mine for over 10 years: the locks are great, the handle is very sturdy and not lose like this one in the video, the outside is made of a hard material so that your stuff will not be crushed under other luggage on a plane (not aluminium so no dents).

I LOVE my Rimowa. I bought a sleeve for the carry on which I have checked several times. The wheels are fantastic. I have tried brands named in the comments. Those brands are fine too. I personally travel quite a bit and need my carry on to be top notch. I’m probably going to get the trunk as long as I can get the sleeve. Everyone should get what they prefer and just understand the different nuances. I researched long before I bought and am very happy with my purchase. If there are issues with a purchase, most luxury brands with take it back or swap it out if need be.

Im a baggage handler for a major airline not to be named and handle about 700-1500 luggages per day. This is how Rimowas are designed, to collect scuffs, dents, and all other imperfections. That’s normal for Rimowa. Your luggage’s purpose is to protect the contents inside and securing them from unnecessary shifting. Then is the convenience and the way it handles when on the move. Rimowa is good and so is Away, Delsey, Ricardo, Travel Pro, and even Amazon Basics. Samsonite is the one to avoid. They can’t design a proper luggage even when their lives depend on it and people choose them because of how cheap they are. It’s always Samsonite that gets caught on and slips off belts and other machinery, messing up the stacks because of their attempt to be “different”. Samsonite is the only luggage manufacturer that would remove basic necessary features like a top and bottom handle for dumb unnecessary ones. The Samsonite hard cases fail miserably with their patterns and extremely poor quality zipper.

@@EatLotsOfCurry the samsonite soft cases are fine specifically the 4 wheelers. But avoid the hard case ones such as the freeforms and such. These are typically always the ones jamming our baggage belt system. It only takes one of these or a loose luggage strap to affect at least 120 other bags behind it. If you need a hard case, don’t go cheap for samsonite and other imitators. The Aways, Rimowas, and even Open Storys perform much better.

Alternatively but cheap every couple of years. You are less likely to get your luggage robbed if it looks cheap. Oh and never buy crap drop off luggage with zips. Ever. Ok for carry on but not for the hold. I've had my globetrotter air crew carry on with no wheels for 30 years. It cost 800 quid new. I have travelled an average of 250 days a year for 15 years across most continents and countless countries in harsh conditions as an offshore worker. Rimowa, despite being an LV acquisition now (LV handbags are a total waste of money (and I am a woman with a bag fetish)), are still very well engineered. The handles need to be loose to enable both retraction and gripper mechanism to work freely. The metal finish is purposely not that scratch resistant, some of my cases are properly dinged up and they look all the better for it, but after desert dust, tropical storms, uneven cobbles, countless kinetic impacts, the wheels roll like melted butter and the handles are all sturdy and the locks and seal are all fine. I have 5 aluminum suitcases, 3 Rimowa, 2 Tumi. The Tumi are built tougher, but are heavier, don’t roll as well and feel overbuilt in many instances. Useful sometimes, but in most instances the fine tuning of “just enough” thickness and strength in all the right places of a Rimowa, even today (I bought my most recent one last week funnily enough) is by far my first choice.

I bought one of these (full aluminium) years ago (whilst flying monthly) and it just couldn’t take what it’s made for: air travel! First trip: a wheel came off! Then of course, dents appear at every trip (expectedly) but it’s when the frame gets twisted (and it does) that it no longer closes properly, leaving massive gaps where water etc can go in. Repairs can only do so much - and my airline at some point excluded Rimowa suitcases from repairs (which tells a lot)z Never ever again will I buy a metal suitcase or one with a metal frame - metal is not resilient, it changes shape and there’s only so much fixing you can do with it! Save cash and get something more durable.

Honestly, we spent over 12K AUD for 4 suitcases. Let me tell you, it was very dissapointing once received. Although ours didn't come with scratch but there were baby dents everywhere!!!!!!! The handled pulled out all the way feels like gonna snap. And they are darn heavy without anything on them. I love the look, but these feels so cheap and they are so expensive. You can't even give them a call. Emails took over a week before they responded. I wanted to return them - but they won't accept it. They offered a discount code, ya a 30% off discount code that expires within a month. Never again and stay away!

Yeah who knows where you got them from. Mine are holding up pretty well. Have 2. They have been through a lot and still look great. There are many Fakes, dupes etc so maybe you got one of those. I trust the thousands of wealthy patrons who continue to buy the suitcases because they are actually good over some presale tiktok account who didn’t exist until a year ago. I encourage anybody to walk into a Rimowa store and inspect the items yourself. Both the hard case or polycarbonate frames feel great. Nobody extends the handles that much and the wheels are the smoothest you’ll ever get on a suitcase…

The thing is, they are flashy and heavy. Two thibgs you actually don’t want in travel luggage. The rimowa trolleys are among the heaviest carry ons, does not make sense. However, the regular metal ones do look nice once they have been checked on, with all the dents and scratches and worn look to be honest. It’s a status symbol for sure. But they are not thousands, hundreds are more feasible and they are often on sale somewhere.

I have the Rimowa suitcases you have reviewed, they are all like that. You might expect them to be perfect but the manufacturing process is such that they have the imperfections you show. some people actually like the dents. in my experience, they’re very good and they last for decades.

I have had a lightweight (2 kg) Rimowa polycarbonate cabin bag for many years and it’s held up okay. Aside from the stylish look of the Aluminum Rimowa cabin bags, there is nothing to recommend them. They look like they’ve been through a hail storm after checking in a few times and they are so heavy that half of the 8 kg weight allowance for a carry-on is used up in the bag weight. And price? Ridiculous.

I can’t agree on this. I’ve done over 90 flights this year alone.. so I’ve tried a lot of brands. I do like calpak for their looks but they break at some point, and I’m mostly speaking from a check in luggage at least medium size. I feel a carry on calpak will last longer. I’ve resorted to the away aluminum checked luggage large and even though it gets dents, scratches.. I know it’s probably not going to crack open for a very long time. I also haven’t had to worry about the wheels breaking.

Yes there were some parts where many would expect perfection when manufacturing the luggages, but do note that they are assembled by people and not machines. I've had them over 7 years now and it's still gives me joy whenever I roll them to the airport. Dents are like battle scars for Rimowa.

Yes, it shouldn't come with scratches from use, but scratches from use are a hallmark that you enjoyed the world with that suitcase, it's a sign of a great traveler and status. As for quality I have to disagree, if there's one thing they don't look like it's cheap, the design and qualities are impressive

I support many comments, buying a rimowa to check it in as luggage is an extremely bad idea, unless if you fly by a private jet, in other cases it will just be a pity to see dents on it, so all my rimowa are only for hand luggage, and by the way do not forget about insurance luggage, as far as I remember, it covers about $ 1000 and now remember how much your suitcase costs? Therefore, Rimowa as an extreme risk for checking in luggage

I have an older rimowa luggage (the lightweight plastic one not aluminum one) that I bought 8 years ago. If I'm being honest, the wheels on them are unbeatable. It's so smooth and airy like I cant feel any weight and it doesnt sound like anything, it's like I'm pushing an empty suitcase. I can fill it up to the brim and it would puff out like it's gonnabe broken, but the zippers and the case are so strong even after being manhandled. I tried other different brands, like samsonite and lojel (and other brands... I travel a lot lol) that rimowa is still waaaay superior.

The handle is suppose to have some wiggle space to prevent it breaking/creaking in half when checked or handled. It’s a design feature. Also if your going to be bothered by a dent or a scratch don’t buy a hard case suitcase! That is common sense. Any suite case luxury or not will show wear. The difference is once you use it, the handle, wheels and zippers won’t fall apart after one or 2 uses like most brands. That’s the price you are paying is the quality of the parts and repair service. Buy an Alpha 3 FXT TUMI as it does not show scratching. Luxury luggage is def worth it if you have expensive goods inside.

Buy rimowa at the store, u inspect then they help you set up the locks etc… however the dents on the rimowa basically say how long you could afford the suitcase, aswell as how many travels you have taken… but then again when it is dented to hell and doesn’t close anymore you have to buy a new one, and start back at square one, unless you can afford to buy a collection of them, then your new suitcase is just a replacement… however my opinion is they are a waste of money if you buy the plastic case.
