Back when I had no money, I wanted designer everything. Now that I have money, I’m cheap and couldn’t imagine dropping thousands on something just because of the label. The only exception to this would be special clothing items that I keep for years because of the quality.
@BD-qc8zz

isn't that a strange parallel the more wealth you accumulate the stingier you become I ain't going to drop even a thousand bucks on a designer item and I'm going to go through what I have before even thinking of getting a new item, people don't understand that as soon as you get that item out of their packaging it immediately depreciates in value and unlike manufacturing machineries they don't make money for you! they only serve a function of purpose thats it you can whine all you want about how it makes you feel and people in general just respect you more blah blah blah at the end of the day its just a bag, and they're many more authentic Italian leather bags that go for 300-500$ without the logo splashing in everyones faces if you want quality I'd rather give my 300$ for one of those brands rather than Chanel or Gucci that way I'll get my moneys worth plus I get to increase my wealth by saving from spending on those useless logos thats just my take.

The people I know who are VERY successful (bio/high tech medical devices, well known physicians) don’t buy designer crap. They buy nice quality - but are more likely to wear a 10 year old Seiko & drive an older Volvo. These are people worth tens of millions. I see people who are actually NOT rich buying the designer stuff, with blaring logos, thinking they are getting clout doing so. NOT🤦🏽‍♂

What's wrong with that is that one could argue that it is immoral to spend money like this when there are so many people suffering. So many people who are homeless and hungry and there are working poor everywhere. Our system is not fair and greed and corruption is rampant. If I made a ton of money, I would spend some of my surplus helping others, rather than waste it on a status symbol. Btw, when I see someone wearing these 'status symbols', I don't look upon the person and think better of them. At best I think they are getting tricked by business or are unenlightened. I think it reflects badly on the person, b/c it sends the message that rather than help others you choose to be wasteful, selfish and shallow. And lest you think I am alone in my thinking, I believe most religions preach that it is immoral to be envious, gluttonous, and selfish. It is immoral not treat others the way you'd want to be treated. I am not a Christian, but believe Jesus was a role model. He healed the sick, helped the poor, helped immigrants and strangers. It is fine to treat yourself in an affordable way. Like have an ice cream, or buy some comfy slippers. However, our culture is repulsive in how it encourages conspicuous consumption. Corporations need you to believe you should want ultra expensive stuff b/c it's better. It's not. It's a scam they use to make themselves richer, and you, poorer. And none of this helps the struggling masses. If you need a Louis Vuitton anything to feel better inside, then this is also a problem that won't be fixed by buying anything. Now you have a hole in your pocket as well as your soul. This was a lengthy response, but I don't regret a word. Maybe it will make some people consider things differently.

Every woman who sees it goes nuts over it, and it truly is a fabulous bag. That said initially i was embarrassed to use it because I thought it was a bit silly to have a designer bag so pricey. I watch the entire video and here’s my opinion . My husband and I income is a little over six figures. I work part-time ( now) his is almost at six. Both have Bachelors degrees , built and sold a home. Our savings acct is well off, our daughter savings is well off both going well, investments. I’ve been purchasing LV before marriage , gifted LV and Tiffany’s. Begun in 07’. I think anyone can afford luxury on any salary. Saving up for it etc. I purchase pre-loved as well and the majority of my LV collection was purchased overseas , which is quite inexpensive. Overseas again and prices are way cheaper than the states. My purchases of LV are under 2,000. I don’t go often nor am I into trends. I used my bags just like I use my Coach bags or vintage Dooney bags. No debt or credit card purchases . Everyone doesn’t want to own a home, or a car like others so that’s not a priority of theirs. I’f you get a tax refund purchase one thing under 1,000 and bank the rest. Some people who make six figures or more do not know how to budget. Some who make less does. I don’t think because you make less than society’s amt of income you shouldn’t purchase a luxury . Who made up that rule? Budgeting is key.

I literally 'tripped' on this video looking for which size LV Neverfull to buy for travel. I only buy pre- loved designer- not only because it's cheaper than the stores but because the OLDER bags are MUCH BETTER QUALITY than the new products. I don't care about LABEL but I DO care about Quality and an old LV Neverfull will last me AND be passed down to my daughter. Wow. This was an eye opening video. We have been “poor” our entire marriage. My husband is a construction superintendent, making under $60K annually, and I am a stay at home mother (because we are committed to homeschooling our children, and that was decided before we ever got married) so, obviously, even though I work full time, I make no money. We are very blessed and have a beautiful and happy life. I knew that (obviously) there’s a pretty big divide between us in our rented double wide home, and the expansive ranches with private airports around here, but I really don’t think I ever thought about what it must be like to have hundreds of thousands of dollars of income per year. It’s just a different world. I also think I don’t really understand items that cost hundreds of times over their value just because of their tag. That’s very strange to me. I buy almost everything my family needs at thrift stores, and I’m very careful to buy very well made, high quality things. But the name brand is not a part of the equation.

If you have the extra funds, I believe that purchasing designer stuff is a good idea. However, I do not believe that it is a good idea to buy these items with credit and then be unable to pay off the debt because your income is significantly lower than the amount that you spend on certain luxury brands.

Agree. I’m now 51 and have started buying more expensive things over the last 10 years because I can afford it. I’m shocked when people in their 20’s are buying shoes and bags for thousands of dollars. It’s something I would have never done because I had more important things to spend my money on like: a home, car, young children….but then again I didn’t come from money.

you don't have to be rich to go shopping at LV. I usually buy my designer pre-loved and have made some amazing deals. LV has very good small leather goods which have lasted me many many years. It's also a brand that has good reselling value. So you get to enjoy it and then sell it for little loss. Same as with Chanel.

I'd welcome anyone who would love to connect with me ❤ I have never purchased any designer brands, the ones I have were given to me. It looks like the recession has hit Louis Vuitton. The bags are way overpriced, but they still might be worth buying if you're going use one for at least 20 years and keep it new condition. Another video had a bag priced at just under $1100. $50 a year spread out would be worth it for a fanatic of the product.

Interesting video! Yes I do buy LV. I think it is just up to the individual and the choices the person wants to make with their money. I personally think you should buy if you like it or want it as long as you do not go into debt because of it. Even if you don’t make a lot, you can still save for something expensive. It is what you prioritize. Just think about what the average person spends a week on coffee or lunch out and multiply that out for a year. You may be surprised how easily that adds up to an LV bag within a year…..
@gracieb.3054
@gracieb.3054 Жыл бұрын
Believe it or not, there are people who cannot afford coffee or lunch out, let alone for a year. The perspectives on here seem very skewed by extreme wealth, IMO. It seems like there's a lot of justification for conspicuous consumption. At least with food and drink you need those to survive. Those could at least make life easier. A bag just transports stuff and you don't need LV to do that. If we as individuals realized that if we all spent more of our money and attention on issues like homelessness and income inequality we would collectively have the power to make society better for all.

Interesting to hear peoples’ incomes relative to their luxury spending. For me, I didn’t spend more than $33k on a car until I was a millionaire. And I didn’t buy my first multi-million dollar house until it cost less than what I would make in 12-months (pre-tax). And I didn’t buy anything designer until I was worth 8-figures. Also, you do know that SnewJ asked people to comment on their reactions. Literally every time he asked the person their income levels, he also asked about the cost of the liability they were coming out of the store with. He's literally setting up the video so that he can draw engagement from his audience. "What do you guys think?" he asks about expensive expenditures at different income levels. Also ironically, you're coming pretty hard at me with your own judgements of my observations. Funny stuff for someone who positions themself as anti-judgement LOL. Maybe you're in the wrong thread.

Designer brand like Louis is cheaper in Europe I remember when Louis Vuitton was 500dollars over 10 years ago I bought my first Louis bag the never full back then to put my politics books in as I was in college studying BA in international relations and politics everyone had a Louis bag for college. I’m from the uk London so it’s not really a big deal here but in LA I have been to that store in Beverly Hills it’s 3 times more expensive. I will be buying more Louis in Monaco on a girls trip, as it’s cheaper than even in London . Because of taxes. I think wearing designer in Europe is a way of life you don’t need to be rich to afford it .
