I get it, but from what I've heard they raised it because of scalpers. Multiple people would come in and buy tons of sets and then just sell them for higher prices online. They once tried limiting the amount of sets you could buy but then people got mad about that. So they raised the prices so that the scalpers can't do as much as before supposedly. Though I definitely agree that these prices are getting ridiculous, if it is for that reason then understandable but like come on.

Lego is setting prices this high because 1) some excited fans will pay the full price which is 20% higher than it should be and 2) when a set goes on sell for 20% on Amazon (as is usual and frequent in France and Germany for example), we're still buying the sets at what their full price actually should be. In such a way, TRUE discounts on LEGO sets are few and far between.

45$?? That's still around 40 euros, which is truly a disgust!! I don't even know anymore what goes into the price, I know that the more minifigs the set has, somehow that pushes the price up. But when it comes to current Star Wars, I think it's just Disney trying to get their greedy paws into the sets and get their (ridiculous) cut! And let's not forget inflation, of course. The easy way to justify basically most current economic problems! For a number of years now I've bought a Lego Advent Calendar for Christmas (in the end it beats chocolate and many other brands in my opinion). However, even before (like 4-5 years back) I would only go and buy the calendar a week into December because the stores usually put them on sale. And even then, the sale usually hits only the City and Friends ones: Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel and probably some others too have stayed on the regular price, around 30e. This year, and I think last one too, those "exclusive" calendars have gone over 40e and that's just something I can't stand! I think it was someone else who said this, but for that price, I can get one rather decent set or, if I'm lucky, two small ones. True, the calendars usually bring some rather rare minifigs but even those seem to be less each year. I took a sneak peak into what this years SW calendar brings and let's just say I was very dissapointed. Not gonna lie, that starfighter set with the three figures looks really cool. I have one decent Ahsoka fig (the one that came with that newest AAT droid tank), but I'm missing a good Anakin minifig. I think the only one I have is from that first line of production into the Clone Wars sets. That one has... an interesting face. But you are so right. Lego has been dropping the ball lately with SW sets, and there's no reason to get this one at a full price. For me, there are a few good sets in the catalogue, for example, that Obi-Wan starfighter with Tuan-We. But then there are these huge and pricey builds that... I don't simply know what to do about them. Sure, I'd like to have that Captain Rex helmet but I don't have the space in small appartment to put it on display, even if I could afford it. To be honest, I'd rather buy sets similar to those that came in the late 1990s and early 2000s all the way up to 2010 or so: there were these "Jedi Mission 1 and 2" that had Qui-Gon Jinn and the door leading to the Viceroy from episode 1; the other half to this was a set with Kenobi and two droidekas. And of course, let's not forget those totally cool battlepacks that brought all the essential figures and some more items at a reasonable price. Maybe it's because in my family when growing up we never had that much extra money but boy, oh boy I did enjoy those small sets. I find them really practical. Don't get me wrong, if those big and splendid ones are your cup of tea, more power to you. (And yes, if I'd like to have a big built it would be that Venator Cruiser. I don't even know where I'd place it!) But growing up with small sets I learnt to combine stuff with other things and ended up building my own buildings, bases and more! I'm getting a little emotional now but seeing how things are currently (and _not_ only with Lego, obviously)... Man, I really miss my childhood! (This one became a little longer than I had anticipated, but when I started to think about what you said in the video, these ideas and thoughts just started to build up. I guess I needed to vent also a little bit..) Thank you for pointing this out and just putting these things into words; I guess I've known these things for a while but didn't want to react or acknowledge them too greatly. It's amazing, when you build a new Lego set (or visit an old one), for a while... It's like you get suck in right back to your childhood years. It's beautiful!

I'm curious to see what the designer has to say for themselves. I was shocked to see on Brickset that the designer for the heinously overpriced Captain Marvel "Hoopty" set claimed that "I always (including here) put the maximum bricks I can get in a model for the budget I'm given." What kind of absurd budget values is lego assigning to these parts/figures that the designers are capping out at 400pc/$90 or 300pc/$45 and can't even squeeze in a side build to justify the price better??? It makes me think that the budget for the set is very low relative to the desired price. My theory is Lego is strategically making extra margin on sets they know are more desirable (is a Captain Marvel set desirable? Idk maybe I'm undermining my own point here lol) and then making sets they know don't have as broad of appeal (like, idk, the Chinese new year sets) relatively underpriced so that people who wouldn't have otherwise bought them will still be interested simply on the merit of the set being a "good deal."

0:30 I disagree on the figures. Anakins CW fit has 3 basic details: his boots, his gloves and his metal braces. Ahsoka also wears boots and her main detail is her sleeves. Everything is missing here and knowing lego, the droid will have skew printing and/or no back printing.

With most sets being discounted at 20%, this set would be set down to $36, which lines up roughly with the 2020 interceptor adjusted for inflation. @@legoenjoyer541 you raise a very good point, a lot of LEGO "deals" are basically just what the retail prices should be at this point. i think the most important thing is to not buy overpriced sets day 1 but if you feel like the 20-30% off still isn't fair, there is always the long shot of finding 40-50% off at places like Walmart. its certainly a complicated conversation

This is not the most price gouging ever. Literally one year prior to this we got the X jet worth $40 for $90. A year before that we got the black panther boat set worth $60 for $90. It could be way worse. Even now we’re getting the Red hulk and Captain America set worth $30 for $55 which is $10 higher than the ahsoka set. It could be WAY worse

Here’s a good trick, part out the parts from bricklink, and if you don’t care about the figures, don’t purchase them. Will lower the price by a lot. Also you could always buy the sets used in the future

If you adjust for inflation you will realize that the pricing isn’t ridiculous at all. I live in Europe and the new set has the same price per prick as Anakins starfighter from 2020. Let me explain: We have Anakin‘s Starfighter from 2020 for 30€ with 247 pieces which results in 16 Cents per piece. Then we have Ahsoka‘s leaked set. 290 pieces for 45€. The price per brick is also 16 Cents. (It’s even insignificantly cheaper if you look at the exact digits.) Keep in mind that they use a nee cockpit mold and slapped an additional minifigure in there. Don’t be mad at Lego, it’s not them who cause that kind of inflation. Go check for yourselves if you don’t believe me.

i’m not sure what calculator you’re using or if it’s just that your currency works differently, but in my American dollars, the 2020 set is about 12 cents per piece and the new one is about 16 cents per piece. also price per piece is not the end all be all. plenty of sets have a bad price to piece ratio and are very worth the money and vice versa. 43 extra pieces and 1 minifigure is not equivalent to 15 extra dollars even with considering inflation

Same, I find that considering these are 2 minifigs I’ve really wanted updated versions of (and ahsoka is my fav Jedi) as well as a really good looking Astro mech in one of my favourite starfighters with an awesome colour scheme, I find that to me that somewhat justifies the price to me. And besides, even if people don’t really buy it, that still won’t make them change their minds, there was the yoda starfighter that was extremely overpriced and yet still they’ve increased the price again.

The others I agree but the interceptor is not that overpriced. Anakin's old interceptor was 30, this one is a bit bigger, more accurate and includes an extra minifigure, given the overall price increase in lego I think 40 would be a fair price.
