To the people leaving negative comments, I'm fully aware it was a stupid mistake and I'm an idiot. That's why I put it in the title. Not everyone is as knowledgeable about which parts fit with what and it's unusual for modern tech not to work with the latest parts. D4 in the title of the product is hardly 100% clear that it's DDR4 only. I was sent the motherboard and made an assumption, with limited time I didn't research before I started building as I didn't have much time and it takes hours to build a PC while also recording footage from multiple angles for videos and build guides. There's no need to be obnoxious.

I have to support you here with the speed of delivery from UK tech companies such as scan ie next day or even same day in some circumstances and the fact almost every UK town has a PC shop, getting access to some DDR4 to test would be extremely quick to the point where this mistake could easily have been hidden with a simple pause in filming. Those quick to judge are jealous and it's an easy way to troll. They are most likely still rocking their 7th Gen i5's or first gen ryzens dreaming of what it could be like. The point of the video is to make people pay attention to compatibility information before they make a purchase, not all generations are the same or backwards compatible. Added information in the UK you can RMA a product for any reason in the first 14 days if bought online therefore if you made this mistake at home it would be quick and easy to switch it out for a RAM of your choosing.

Perhaps you can give me some insight that would be greatly appreciated. I'm also building in a lian li dynamic xl and I'm also looking at this exact board for a white build and the strix F board for a black build. I'm wondering how do you connect all the usb front panel on the case to a board like this and the F models that have 1x3.2 gen2 header, only 1x3.2 gen1 header and 2x2.0 headers onboard? the lian li case needs 1x3.2 gen2 and 2x3.2 gen1 for all the front panel usb ports to function from what pcpartpicker is telling me and I was wondering if I can use a 3.2 gen1 Y splitter off of the boards only 3.2 gen1 header or would I need to use a 2.0 female to 3.2 20pin male adapter and hook up to one of the 2.0 headers? I find your video explanations helpful and detailed, especially the videos you have on going crazy with rgb fans. I've only built one system that I've been using for about 3 or 4 years now and I like this system the way it is (5.17 ghz on an i59600kf) and I want to build another 2 modern gpu/cpu systems for my Daughter and I. I wanted something with a lot of pink rgb in a white build for hers and a purple black for myself and yours and a few others videos demystified the process for me so, thanks.

that comment you made near the end about the timings on ddr4 being much lower than on ddr5 means pretty much nothing, ddr5 has two channels per dimm and also has the power delivery built onto the ram itself whereas on ddr4 you can only get one channel per dimm and the power delivery is on the motherboard, and the bandwidth on ddr5 heavily outbalances the tighter timings on ddr4, especially when youre running xmp/docp on both as they are both going to be extremely loose (thanks to jedec subtimings, primaries dont matter much for performance).
@TransAmDan28
@TransAmDan28 Жыл бұрын
Also CAS is based on clock cycles. So 6000mhz ddr5 compared to 3000mhz ddr4, even if your CAS timing were double the figures on DDR5 it would have the same access time as DDR4.

@@TransAmDan28 yeah thing is cas, trcd(rd/wr), trp and tras do basically nothing for performance anyway, the subtimings do signifigantly more especially trrds/trrdl and tfaw, thats why theres no point in getting a, for example 3600 cl14 kit over a 3600 cl18 kit if your just gonna run xmp. if youre gonna oc then thats an entirely different story haha

"There are still arguments for using DDR4. It's cheaper and there are less issues with XMP. Because DDR5 is not relevant enough to warrant a complete redesign yet, neither is PCIe 4.0. Sure it's new but hardly exciting, the speeds are on level with DDR4 and upcoming higher end speeds are not fast enough over 4 to warrant upgrading to it. Ram jumps in 2 or even 3 stages is normal, if you're already sporting DDR4 then you won't be impressed till at least DDR6 maybe 7. It's just not that important unless you are crunching large amounts of data like the Seti project and such. Games no need for it yet.
@DATRecords604
@DATRecords604 Жыл бұрын
@@animalyze7120 I understand your point but at the same time it seems very strange that at this point in time, with the new technological advancements and PCI 5.0 they won't have a version of this board with D5. If one wants to build a new machine now with i13 should be just logical one embraces the new technology rather than the older. And a person can game and crunch data with the same machine, or do rendering like in my case and would benefit of the newest technology (also because one can change the D5 dimms later on and get more performing blocks in a few years perhaps, as opposed to D4 that probably won't advance much in speed/latency in the coming years).

Almost all z690 and z790 boards are available in ddr4 and ddr5 variants. It's the first and most important thing to check... Any minimal advantage that ddr5 has in terms of speed is not worth the huge price difference. It's just a temporary situation though.

Ram Timings are actually rated as cycles not miliseconds so ram that is at 6000mhz and a cas latency of 40 is exactly as fast as a 3000mhz cas latency of 20. the term latency can be misleading as most people the its measured as a unit of time and dont realize its how many cycles.

Now you will run into the bigger issue, number of pcie lanes. Im almost certain if you populate all four m.2 drives, your video card is cut down from 16x to 8x. The 13900k only has twenty (20) pcie lanes. If you are running viedo at 16x, that only leaves 4 for your m.2. and each of those need 4. For more lanes you can go to threadripper, intel extreme editions, or server chips (xeon).

There is 2 very similar looking Strix Z790-A Gaming Wi-Fi, D4 is for DDR4, and without "D4" in the name is for DDR5. It's so confusing. @@TheProvokedPrawn In my opinion, the negativity is so counter-intuitive. With negativity people are less likely to create educational videos again. Honestly, for the past 15 years I've worked in the computer build/repair field, and I've seen so many people caught out by assumptions like this. Recently I was caught out with a wireless mouse. The marketing all shows that it's got a USB-A charging wire but the mouse itself is type C. The wireless dongle was mentioned but not it's connector. I assumed it would be as the wire, and it would be a type A. It wasn't. It was a type C, and my computer doesn't have a type C port on it. I had to spend another £10 buying a type A to C adapter to get my wireless mouse wireless. Silly mistakes from assumptions hit us all at one point. It's great when someone can help us avoid them. Again, I say thank you and bravo for making it.

Thanks for the advice to watch the RAM generation with the I9 boards. About 2 years ago I got a an !9 that takes that earlier DDR4 RAM, and as I am considering increasing my RAM quantity, I shall have to be careful in that respect. Who knows? I may have just gone ahead and got the wrong type, but the MB manual is quite easy to read concerning RAM type and quantity. Goes up to 128Gb of 32GB single DIMM capacity (4 sticks) in either ECC un-buffered DIMM or non-ECC units. Probably best for me to get the same type as is there now. I have two sticks giving me 32Gb, and so far that is plenty, but I could install another two if necessary without replacing the first two, and without running into compatibility problems, to give 64Gb. I suppose I could, instead of 2 sticks of 16Gb, add 2 of 32Gb, giving me 96Gb total.. I would need to take especial care regarding timing.
