Just moved from Dallas to Clearwater prior to that lived in LA. Honestly I don’t understand how people complain about the traffic in Tampa, Clearwater or St. Petersburg . I drive a lot daily through multiple areas and traffic here isn’t as bad as I expected and so much better than Dallas or LA. It’s normal traffic, just avoid rush hour you’ll be fine :)

Yup, if you are from LA, San Francisco, or San Diego, where we have world class traffic, the St. Pete version is mostly a yawner…use your GPS to get around it and/or plan your trips better…lots of side streets.

I don’t know about that. My uncle lives in a nice gated community in St. Pete. Sure it’s great and safe inside the community. But right outside…. Boy it’s a dump. It could pass for Detroit both with the demographics and the crime. I wouldn’t go out at night in St. Pete. Some parts that is rough! That’s why we didn’t buy a home there. Clearwater same thing. We bought in Orlando suburbs. Not disappointed we love it.

I been in St. Petersburg for 5 years and being from Brooklyn, it feels like there isn't any violent crime here in a predator against pedestrian kinda way. Although I'm aware that it does happen occasionally. The only thing that ever made me feel unsafe is the way people drive here. Floridians are very angry & aggressive in traffic for no reason whatsoever. I don't understand why people here have so much road rage. Nothing is really far away and traffic is moderate when compared to most other places in the country. Other than that, St Pete is a beautiful city and I love it here

Genuinely cannot wait to leave St Petersburg. Its one of the better cities in tampa bay & has so much character. But too many out-of-state people moved here with their big city attitudes, and now everyone acts & drives like assholes. Not to mention the astronomical cost of living. Its driving up rent, even commercial rent, which is causing all of my favorite local mom&pop restaurants and stores to close. It's ridiculous.

Of course he's in real estate. Moved to St. Pete 4.5 years ago from NJ near NYC. I live in downtown St. Pete. The cost has doubled (at a minimum) in every way since 2019. Downtown is noisy! I call it Siren City. Ambulances, Fire Trucks, Fire Dept Emergency Unit, police. It's maddening and I have lived in SF, Philly, Boston, and I worked in NYC. It's NOISY. People can't drive. So, you have to really be defensive while driving. Lizards everywhere, but I live in a high rise so not an issue. HOT and HUMID. June, July, August, and September is too hot. We have been safe with hurricanes and he's right not a direct hit in over 100 years. It's a small, kooky, city with a lot of artsy folks and a LOT of alphabet mafia. More than any city I have lived in or visited. When my mother (who is elderly) moves out of FL, then I'm leaving St. Pete. It is not for me.

My wife and I were born and raised in Saint Petersburg. I am 52 years old and have seen some changes. I really have nothing positive to say. As Native Floridian it really sucks to be pushed out by all the out of state people moving in and calling themselves Floridians. Higher prices, Taxes went way up, Insurance went way up. Traffic is worse than ever, constant bitching about the bugs and the heat. Old Saint Pete is pretty much gone. Greed runs the city now. Are there positives? Well the beaches were great, now overcrowded and most are being built up with new homes. ?? I can’t think of anything else. Thank god I own my home and I can sell and get out when the time is right. My opinion, Do Not Move Here.

I believe everything you brought up was very valid points. I live on Saint Pete Beach and my insurance has been canceled four times. It’s getting to the point now where my escrow is just about as much as my mortgage payment. as far as traffic goes if you lived here prior to the Covid movement when everybody and their mother move here, it was knight and day. I could drive from the beach to fourth Street in around 20 minutes back then now it’s every bit of 45 minutes. I wouldn’t compared to a big metropolitan area but it is definitely a thorn and everybody side at this point. if you have a death wish then get a motorcycle. It’s probably the stupidest thing you could do in this area. Just being honest. Speaking of honesty, we appreciate your honesty, and telling other people the truth of the area. Ok, we live in the Bayway Isles on the water and have NO mosquitoes…like none! Also, noseeums are not here either. No fire-ants. No alligators, no snakes. We tend to have a lot of wind and it tends to keep the temps down in summer and is probably the main reason we have no flying, biting insects as well. Car insurance is high but public transportation is rapidly getting better. Downtown St. Pete is an urban walker/bikers paradise. You have to pay attention to FLOOD zones! If you live in Zone A or B, you will get higher house insurance. There are two low hills in Pinellas county, one is downtown St. Pete, the other is Seminole, both are higher than 30 ft, those are areas you should concentrate on. Check the flood zone maps. If you have an older house you should retrofit with hurricane ties to secure your roof…It is much cheaper than you might think. If you secure your roof and are not in an A or B zone, you can get away with the State hurricane insurance or just self insure.

Alright listen, I’m born and raised in st.pete ,Fl and some of what he saying is true, but Indian rocks beach is not st.pete and all these places he showing are vacation spots and I get it, but we have to be real. Stay away from 34st, downtown st.pete is the only real safe place because st.pete police station is there. Alligator are everywhere but you’re fine just stay away from joes creek and you’ll be ok, stay away from haines road, high point,Rainbow village, Jordan park, Childs park. If you don’t live in these places stay away if you ain’t from there, there is more spots but that’s to many avenues and to list, the closest you’re to beach the safer you’re. Now that you know where to stay from enjoy st.pete 😁.

Car insurance is high because Florida drivers are unbelievably bad. I see 2-3 accidents a week, I’m not exaggerating. People are in a hurry to get to the next red light. It’s so stupid. The red lights in Florida are like 4 minutes long so you know your chance of hitting one is 100%. But people still speed, race around you and honk constantly. I don’t know if these people are brain dead or what. I get honked at for driving normally.

@@shturmovik3033 lawsuits. FL only had an average of about 10% of unpaid claims but for the whole US we had 80% of the lawsuits. It's why so many carriers went bankrupt and why others left FL. Lawyers were able to triple their rates if awarded even one dollar more in court. It's why over 70% of the money went to the lawyers. I dont agree with your statement , We were hot bad with Irma and Ian , in Charlotte County . `100,000 in damage , our Ins Co filed BR and left us hanging after paying , we own a home,, Now we are stuck trying to get money from the state ,, living in a travel trailer in the driveway. a yr half now!!!!!!!!! So a new Ins co took over 140,000 polices that UPC bailed on , and we went from about $3,000 yr (with hurricane Ins) to now $7,000 a yr , Everyone got slammed with dbl, triple the rates here after that hurricane. Several Ins co dropped people , several left FL. thousands of people here got the major screw on this and left with severly damaged homes , and NO home , living on the streets ina in cars , and the elderly , left to sleep in their cars . We still dont have our street lights back up and street signs in alot of this area . So hurricanes have ALOT to do with the increase of INS rates. I've been living here for more than 20 years and if it wasn't for my wife, lol, I would move far away...my negatives below Heat and humidity is terrible. And it seems like its getting worse. This is 6-9 months out of the year.. Beaches are overrated, I'm not a sandy person, and I don't want to swim in piss warm waters... If you like flat land, this is the place to be...forget about hiking, mountain biking, anything with hills related lol Traffic is getting worse every year, even tho the roads and highways are expanding, if you have to drive to work, you're going to lose your mind. Its not cheap anymore, actually getting to a point where many cant afford a decent house... Couple of things, crime is not bad here, not at all. Downtown St Pete is amazing if it wasnt for the humidity.

Mid Town St Pete is more of a bad area but gentrification is happening there now. The neighborhoods are becoming more diverse. The problem is people can't afford to live in neighborhoods they have been in for generations.

I lived in St. Pete when I was in law school. I was 26 and my daughter was 5 years old. The average age at that time was 72. The AVERAGE age was 72 years old. That tells you exactly how many very, very, very elderly folks live in that area. As native Floridians, we were appalled that these old folks would feel compelled to comment on the foods we were buying in the local super market. We quickly learned that we would always be seated in the "kids section" in the local restaurants even when the adults at the table outnumbered the kids. Most of the population didn't want to see or hear children at all for any purpose. We also learned that everyone wants free advice from law students although it's illegal for students to give advice except under specific circumstances with proper oversight. I lived in St. Pete for 3 very long years and could not wait to move! The law school would not allow me to live in "family housing" as we had no male head of household. Yes, this is a law school denying housing to a divorced lady and her child who was born within a valid Florida marriage. At that time, the "housing specialist" even asked if my child was legitimate. So I rented a private home for 3 years. the landlady was constantly showing up for one thing or another, and subsequently, a neighbor told me that she was going in while we were gone during the day so I had the locks changed. Eventually, I moved back home and had to sue the landlady for my deposit even though I had completely replaced a broken window that was broken when we moved in, paid out-of-pocket for the heater to be repaired and hired multiple A/C repairmen. Yes the beaches are beautiful but the morose old folks aren't the happiest people on the block, they resented our very existence and both of us hated living there. Thank you. Don't move to St. Pete. Instead, move to Clearwater or Sarasota. There are plenty of people there who are not natives either but they trend younger and are more realistic when it comes to others' children.

Hurricane Donna, known in Puerto Rico as Hurricane San Lorenzo, was the strongest hurricane of the 1960 Atlantic hurricane season, and caused severe damage to the Lesser Antilles, the Greater Antilles, and the East Coast of the United States, especially Florida, in August-September. The fifth tropical cyclone, third hurricane, and first major hurricane of the season, Donna developed south of Cape Verde on August 29, spawned by a tropical wave to which 63 deaths from a plane crash in Senegal were attributed. The depression strengthened into Tropical Storm Donna by the following day. Donna moved west-northwestward at roughly 20 mph (32 km/h) and by September 1, it reached hurricane status. Over the next three days, Donna deepened significantly and reached maximum sustained winds of 130 mph (210 km/h) on September 4. Thereafter, it maintained intensity as it struck the Lesser Antilles later that day. On Sint Maarten, the storm left a quarter of the island's population homeless and killed seven people. An additional five deaths were reported in Anguilla, and there were seven other fatalities throughout the Virgin Islands. In Puerto Rico, severe flash flooding led to 107 fatalities, 85 of them in Humacao alone. Donna further intensified to a Category 4 hurricane early on September 6, and attained peak winds of 145 mph (233 km/h) twenty-four hours later. The storm then weakened over the next few days, making multiple landfalls in The Bahamas as a Category 3 hurricane. Donna generated severe wind gusts of up to 173 mph (278 km/h) over southern portions of the archipelago nation, and prolific rains affected the country and the nearby Turks and Caicos Islands. Several small island communities in the southern regions of The Bahamas were leveled, but no damage total or fatalities were reported.

Personally I think if you're a retiree that's worked in a state that had state tax then you shouldn't get the benefit of your pension not being taxed here in florida just because you moved here from another state to avoid the state tax that you had to pay on your pension...your employment wasn't here so you paid no local city taxes nor property tax during that time here while you were working up in your Northen States.

Si I live not far from Sarasota , have been here 10 yrs , Im from the Flint MI area . Im familiar with Clearwater , my dad retired in CW and we used to visit often. My sister (also from MI) now lives in NH, comes to visit yearly. Last yr we went to Dunedin, and stayed a couple nights , also been there before, along with Tarpon springs , that whole area , But never been to Indian Rocks, So she is coming this March, we want to stay a couple nights somewhere low key , even thought about Dunedin again. I live here and get sick of the fast life and traffic. We also have been to Ft Meyers, e tc. Any suggestions , where we could stay in your area , that is more low key ? And she loves the beach , ( I dont) lol I live 3 miles from one and never go. We like walking trails also , Let me know what you think. She likes more of the ma and pop places also .

It's all depends from where you came from. I'm in CW for 10 years. The traffic is not really traffic when you come from a place that 10 minutes driving becomes 75 min in traffic jams, plenty of parking everywhere. So it's hot in the summer, but it's balanced with the rain that chills everything. Better than some places with the same heat, but nothing to cool you down. One mistake about the hurricane, we had Irma direct hit few years ago.
