I got mixed feelings when it comes to this. I've spent some time in the mid east and in Turkey during the 90s and it was absolutely normal (almost expected?) to bargain as it is a cultural thing in some countries. Not sure about Sri Lanka tbh though! :) But I know that many Sri Lankans are shit poor and in that case I also think 1000 wasn't a lot as it's like a few dollars only.

You said ,"do you want to sell your sister to me aswell', the boy didn't know English properly so he didn't understand what you said . But it's very rude.
