HELO ibis user here! So i can’t animate what so ever BUT i have seen amazing animations on ibis! Its surprising how people can do it also when you pick out an animation, canvas or a regular canvas, it has sizes if you want your canvas to be bigger or smaller

I just animated on ibis paint but the trick for me is if I'm doing a meme/trend i just animated every clip of it and put them together since i can't overlay the music (is a long process so is not easy but credit for other animator in Ibis paint)

Firealpaca user. You can make it hold on a frame without duping anything. You just click on the folder/layer settings and set how long to display the frame. While I'm not animating anymore, it's really good for silent animations, GIF making, practicing, and animatics. You can make animated emotes very easily with just this. The downside is obviously no sound so you're dependent on an editing program for that, and depending on your computer the amount of layers in folders is gonna create slow load times, especially when saving and opening. Merge as many layers as you can to save space or be prepared to make a new file with everything merged if it gets too slow. A layer can be a frame too if you can condense it that much. It's annoying, but if normal animation programs feel overwhelming and you want an animation program that works like an art one, this might be worth it.

i second this! Firealpaca is slightly limited but its extremely comfortable to use especially if youre used to drawing programs and lets your animations have a very clean look (since its focussed on being a good fluid drawing program above all else)

on firealpaca you can set folders or frames to hold for several frames, you dont need to duplicate it, you can also "always show first frame" so you dont need to copypaste backgrounds either. You can also customize your ui so your layer window isnt so squished, i usualky just remove the size selection window completely because it doesnt really have a purpose (you can just use the brush window instead)

as someone who uses ibispaint before flipaclip (usually because ibis has so many options) it's weird that your canvas, being free, looks so pixelated. the only thing that makes it tedious for me when using ibis is that there is no audio option and it is horrible to lipsync in capcut later or guess how the characters will speak.

I use ibispaint for animation ever since flipaclip failed on me (It's pronounced Ih-biss Paint, btw 😂) It can work for long animations, you just gotta sit through all of the ads 😅

Ah yes, back in the day most WarriorCat AMV's were made with MS Paint and Windows Live Movie Maker. ChaoChao0071 still animates in MSPaint (for the most part, more complex scenes were done in another program).

​@Koispeck well, sadly flipaclip isn't really good, especially if you recently download it, as newer downloads of the app throw add audio, More then 3 layers, And most brushes, Behide a paywall, while older downloads before the update you can simply watch a add for these features. Flipaclip got into alot of drama for this vary confusing, non beginner friendly update.

I used to animate, and draw, in the Windows XP version of MSPaint. That version is still the only version of MSPaint I like, all the newer versions after kinda suck and removed stuff I always used. I now use GIMP, and have been using GIMP since 2016. GIMP absolutely has a learning curve, and takes time to figure everything out. (Also KidPix is stupidly nostalgic, I had this math computer game (CD) that also had KidPix on it. This was back when I was 7 in 2008.

I have only ever tried animating twice, the first time was with flipaclip and it was honestly so frustrating to use. Since I used it a few years back, and I barely understood how to use it. My second time was on ibs paint, something I've used for years and think I have a okay-goodish understanding how to use it. And I decided to try out the animation option. The thing would need to be restored every single time I closed and reopened the app, which was beyond frustrating. And I had to use a completely different device because the one I was originally using different have enough storage. And honestly compared to flipaclip, I had a much easier time using it. Even though it was still difficult because I have little to no knowledge how to animate things, I just made it to my liking. Just using the sketch I made, not bothering to do a final line art. Just slightly cleaning it up and coloring it in and called it good. And I honestly was happy with myself, it was my first actual time animating something. And using an app I had a better understanding of and in my opinion easy to use definitely helped keep me motivated to push through and not give up since their were parts I just felt like giving up and I didn't like what I drew. But I did it, and I got a little understanding that animating is hard and I honestly never want to do it again

In ms paint there's a few tricks (still not ideal for making anything significant but just to put it out there). Theres two main drawing tools, but if u want to be able to use the paint bucket, u have to use the pen not the paint brush. U can use the eraser to color under line art by holding right click, background color in color slot 1, color u want to make it in color slot 2. U can change brush and eraser size with + and - on the keyboard. Having transparent background on is so important, it basically just makes white transparent so if u select something and move it, it will overlay. Just some useful things that u'll probably never use but hey, the more u know.

I used to have framecast and I met people right there and still my friends :> (there are someone that I lost contacts so if you ask about my old username was WolfRainbow or kinda like that) The reason why yours frames eliminated is because of a very common glitch in framecast and I remember that we used to name it glitchcast. The worst Glitch that can happen to you is that the white background turns gray. If that happens to you, say goodbye to your project, because you can't do anything with the canvas. neither draw nor color the only thing you have to do is create a new canvas start all over again :') I don't understand how the animators who were always in the best tops in the community could work with the limitation of the app. I only drew and rarely animated. I used to post a lot there until I move to insta… Good memories…💜

i spent a good long while animating in fire alpaca but when i finnaly figured out there is ZERO audio support, i finnaly went out to find a different software i chose Krita bc it was the strongest software i could find that i could also actually understand its UI immediately i haven't gotten fully used to it like i have for fire alpaca i still use fire alpaca for drawing actually

Oo i use IPX as my animation program, but instead of actually using the animation feature, i actually drew the frames with a normal canvas for higher quality (and no annoying watermark!!!!) And i just use an editing program such as capcut or something to sort out the frames! It's a good and cheap technique that i learned! (Though you might need to guess if the animation would be smooth or not)

gimp is more of a photo editing app, not an illustration or animation one, I've already seen someone rating illustration programs trying to draw on gimp, and they ended up creating a whole category for him because of the struggle, it has a pepper brush though you could try tux paint

If you have a computer I recommend Krita, it's completely free and it's really amazing once you figure out where everything is! Animating on it works well too, my only gripe is the fill bucket tool is really weird and doesn't really work.
