Unitronic suggests stock plugs with a stage 1, 1+. Maybe a stage 2 with bigger turbo would be better for a colder plug. But APR suggest 1 step colder plugs for their stage 1. 😬

Yeah this happened to me, the tips broke off….noticed when the reservoir cracked and overheated…the car went into safe mode because of misfires. I took the plugs out and noticed the tips gone in two of the plugs plus coolant in the combustion chamber which Ig is from the head gasket failing. I’m covered under the Pzev warranty but I have to wait and see what the dealer will say this coming monday

I've been running RS7 plugs I order through the Audi dealer I work at for 2 years. I really think people underestimate PROPER gapping lol I tend to stress myself out after seeing so many posts in the groups though. Just cant justify paying the crazy prices for the other kind of plugs, especially when I try to change them roughly every 10k miles. Good video bro.

Thanks bro! You’re 100% right. I do feel partially it does have to do with people gapping them wrong and ruined the ground strap which causes it to snap. That’s the issue too though so many other plugs are double the price so it’s tough. For me I never had issues it’s more of a peace of mind thing

I picked up a 2017 Audi S3 and the OEM NGK plugs were loose. One spark plug lost its ground electrode. Everything else seemed good. Entire service history was with the dealer and the plugs have about 15k in them. I have a JB1 hooked, other than that, my car is stock. I would recommend people check their plugs after every other oil change no matter what set up you have. I’m just going to avoid NGK plugs for now and swap them for OEM Bosch plugs.

I turned off the car and ran my OBDELEVEN and my codes were “ cylinder 1 misfire” “hide cylinder”. I turned the car back on but it ran perfectly. No check engine light I’m hoping it’s just the spark plugs . Any thoughts?
@DArias
@DArias Жыл бұрын
It could absolutely be a plug but could also be a coil or bad ground possibly bad injector. My suggestion is if it comes back swap the plug from cylinder 1 to another and go out for a drive and if the misfire moves to that cylinder than it’s the plug. If that doesn’t work then try the coil and same thing. If that doesn’t work then check your ground wire on the coil to make sure it’s good and if those dont fix it then it’s possible you may have a bad DI injector

@sarcastixx74

To be honest mate I think you'll be fine. My RS6 C7.5 came with a stage 2 QST tuning package which is "meant to" have NGK R7438-9 plugs in them and swapped out every 10k miles. I'm pretty dubious about this as like yourself I don't do track or long pulls. At over 300 quid a set I'm wondering if a decent alternative will do. I occasionally get the odd hiccup/hesitation under minimal loads but have been assured that this is "normal". Again, not sure if I buy that or not but given that the car doesn't throw an EML or store any codes it could be true. I think tuners like to cover themselves by always insisting on parts that may be considered overkill, but also makes sense as they could have lawsuits against them if they recommended anything less and someone blows their engine. Don't get me wrong, if I ever find that I definitely do need the NGK-R's I have no probs forking out the money for them as it's much cheaper than any remedial engine work that could come out on the back of it. The NGK-R's have that angled ground strap type that is recommended by NGK for turbo cars with +50% power increase so no doubt they do the job well.

Thankfully, I had an extended warranty, but I still went through an absolute nightmare with the Audi dealership. My car sat for nearly 8 months do to negligence. THEN they tried to fabricate emails and say that it was my fault that it took so long. THEN tried to charge me thousands more than what was already approved. They ended up waiving everything when I brought in the District Manager and threatened to bring in lawyers. Lesson here is NEVER go to the dealership. I ended up finding a family owned European mechanic shop, and they basically restored my faith in mechanics lol. Unless you are tuned and pushing more power just stay OEM until you get there. That was bottled up inside me now wasn't it lol.

That’s unfortunate to hear. So best coils you can run are stock. People on hybrid and even full frame setups at 500-600hp use stock coils. The Apr ones are trash. For plugs if you’re tuned nothing with last a while. These cars while tuned require plug changes every 10k-15k miles. The rs7 plugs have been known to break easily which is why everyone is switching. I’m currently running Denso 5750 plugs and they’re great but I’m on a hybrid setup. For you I would go Denso 5749. Not too pricey and they’re really good and reliable according to many tuners so far

Use OEM or NGK brand which will have a serial number...Do not use cheap in Audi nor run anything that will fail to fault your engine..Do not not R7 .Run R8 if you are boosted with a Stage 1 two or 3 .Coils APR ..Also go with their tune because there is better response time with stage 1 .Let's say you tune to stage 1 make sure there are things such as the coils and sparks done and Any belts it needs. IF you can buy the bigger pully from IE then get the IE intake system..If you can get a better intercooler for the audi or Ac compressor do it ..Only get good 93 octane through shell with the V-power or additive that they have already in there gas ..Also if you burn oil in your audi like after oil changes and your like yo why is my oil going down when I just die an oil change ? Get the liquid Molly for the gas tank after you top off the liquid molly oil in your engine.It helped me keep my oil range steady. I will go out on the limb for you and absolutely say that those that "supposedly" had the RS7 fail - damaged them by improperly gapping / with however they did them AND/OR left them in for so long. They could have even purchased them not knowing they were knock-offs from wherever it was they bought them. BTW - the tuners etc., that do not push the RS7s do so for the simple fact they don't want some idiot blaming them for the plugs just because they improperly gap them.

Rs7s are known to break. There’s countless amounts of example of the ground strap breaking off the spark plugs. Yes brisk is another option but they don’t last as long usually. I’ve had no issues with the densos even on my hybrid setup

@@DArias yeah only in the states, so probably some poeple gap em by hitting on the table or buy fakes :) It's funny how the quality changes overseas, desnso here - not preferred at all, but there, they work like a charm i suppose
