I made a killing selling my omnibus books. I had all first prints. Thor omnibus vol.1 Kirby cover sold for a little under 1k. bought a lot of nice comics with that money. Once books go out of print the prices sore. From my experience anyways.

A fabulous, thorough explanation overall! Just wanted to point this out: for us international collectors, the up-to-50% discounts are very rarely found on the day of release. With some luck, Amazon, BookDepository, Archonia, and others may offer discounts but only if they have books left that didn’t sell out on release. Hardly the case with big Marvel/DC titles. I would say it’s a really expensive hobby for someone outside the US, but no less enjoyable!

Sealed can command a premium, but I wouldn’t say it loses value. A reprint announcement is what kills the value on the aftermarket

Good advice man, thanks a lot. As a UK resident we lack the kind of discounters that you guys have in the US, but there are some bargains to be found of you put in the ground work. I picked up 2 copies of X of Swords from Amazon by pre-ordering and they shipped at 37GBP each :-) No-one likes a scalper, but one of those copies will go on ebay at some point...it funds the hobby like you said!!

I could never hope to replace my original collection (long since lost - was made to sell when I went to college) so I've been snapping up Omnis from the runs I had and it's been nice to have access to so many of my favorite comics again - even if not the same as having the original issues. That said, I've missed some volumes just by virtue of when I started paying attention and it's frustrating when they are OOP and only available at more than double cover price less than 24 months after originally published (looking at you Savage Sword of Conan Vol. 1, among others). Really hope Marvel keeps reprinting and adding more volumes to their line.

I would like to see a follow-up vid explaining to people why prices for new books are so low and available at a discount compared to other collectibles like statues, but it's mostly just boring economics of supply & demand, edition sizes/print runs, and stock/warehouse storage availability.

Sometimes people wait for books to go on sale but then they go out of print. It's a dangerous game. I just bought 3 xmen books off Amazon because they were on sale for like 30% off each. You gotta check book prices daily and wait.

Also consider that some omnibus reprints may be reprinted with some changes like the "Conan The Barbarian 1" which will be reprinted in 2023 without the issue #24.

Out of print Omni books on the after market are insane. Insane prices and you would have to b crazy (or rich), to buy them. Be patient and wait for a reprint!
